They had a stack of 'em today at my local comic shop. If you happen to pick it up, do NOT open it. My brain is now full of spoilers. Well, just one...but it's a big one. :( Decided not to get it until I see the movie.

Sorry, Rick. I posted about that somewhere. Probably the very same one I came across when I flipped through my copy last week no doubt. Yes, the book is now sequestered in my closet until AFTER I see the movie. And then...watch out! because the book looks awesome!

UPDATE: I came home today and found a package from Amazon my wife ordered. Inside? The Making of Hellboy 2. :) (Still not opening it though.) She also bought me The Art of Kung Fu Panda. It's incredible. And the movie's great, too.

I think I know the spoiler you're talking about, Rick. It's a damn HUGE one that some j@ck@$$ at a forum I frequent blurted out. A story point that I'm really on the fence about.
Oh well.
I'm going to have to snag that book after the film is released.
And yes, the 'Panda' art book is fantastic, easily one of my faves. Nico Martlet is a monster, a monster I tells ya...
Spoilers, smoilers:tongue: I took one for the team and totally went through this masterpiece.it's full of "eye-protein" like you cannot imagine! This book is a tribute to all the artisans and craftspeople that put their vision fron pen to paper.Everyone involved really stepped up their game this time around .the images that come out of Wayne Barlowe's pencil are mind-blowing...i've seen it done in person...it's surreal.... pages from del Toro's notebooks are grand. He's truly a visionary...Ruiz Velasco's renderings are fantastic.and Mignola's concepts (what can I say)are pure genius! Genius, pretty much says it all. It has a full script(didn't read it) and all sorts of surprises. If you liked the first "Art Of..." book you're gonna love this one.do your self a favor and pick this one up! you won't be disappointed!

I've had mine a couple of weeks now and like you, Gary, I've eaten it up with a spoon. Eye candy of the BEST kind ... ohhhh, baby ... *drool* ... and yes, it has a shooting script within, just like the first one, which I read with relish - and it has just whetted my appetite to see the film. But even if you don't read the script the whole derned thing is CRAWLING with spoilers, so beware!

Okay, this is a weird request, but could somebody post (or PM me) some HINTS as to the nature of the spoiler, written in an incredibly roundabout way, without explicitly saying said spoiler?
I'm so bad, I can't control myself. But the fact people can be "on the fence" about the spoiler makes me interested to know what SORT of spoiler it is (although not the spoiler itself!). Like, is it a "kill off a character" spoiler, or a "character's true nature is not what you think" spoiler... Something like, a lil' more detailed maybe.
Does... that make sense? Commence with the hinting!

Well...I don't know what other spoilers anyone else is thinking about, but I opened the book right to a page of images that I would have rather discovered during the movie. I can't quite think of a round-about way of describing it without it being immediately obvious. So read on if you must...
POSSIBLE SPOILER description in HIDE-O-VISION below:
How about...it's a portrayal of Hellboy we didn't see in the first movie.
I admire Gary's enthusiasm about the book. However, I've already seen way too much of this movie already in trailers and pictures. I miss the days of not knowing a damn thing about a movie before I see it. I already feel like I've seen most of The Dark Knight and I'm not even going out of my way to look at all the viral crap.
I totally agree with what rick has to say...i feel like like i know a lot of stuff and a lot of the "spoilers "have been on other message boards.while the movie was still in production..and even stuff that has officially been out already, have great hints.just after loving the first "Art Of..." book ,i knew that i had to immerse my self in all the conceptual stuff.I cannot wait to see all these things come to life .seeing all the stuff in the book doesn't spoil my excitement to see the film.i hope that i haven't spoiled anything for anyone:redface:

Yeah, I understand Rick. I flipped right to the page with a big old photo there and I hadn't even expected to see him in the movie. I know it is just a small part but I would rather have waited and been surprised when Tony Stark shows up. Ooops, said too much. ;)
But, seriously, I didn't unveil the HIDE-O-VISION spoiler but I think it is the same one I came across, slamming the book closed immediately. I want to see all the benind the scenes, conceptual stuff but I have to wait. I like it more that way. Plus, it's not too far off.
come on kirk...you know you wanna peek...your buddy Barlowe is all over this book:tongue: totally understand your reasons for wanting to wait...less than two weeks Hellabrationeers!!!!(is that even a word?,i guess it is now)

Dude...have you read this thread? And, yes, the whole script is in there. It is a great book but it contains a mother load of spoilers. Journey through its pages at your own risk.

She also bought me The Art of Kung Fu Panda. It's incredible. And the movie's great, too.I really loved 2D intro animation in Kung Fu Panda, so much that I ordered the artbook. It was posted by Amazon a couple of days ago. Yesterday I found some awesome Nicolas Marlet concept art online and I'm even more happy now. I hope the book will be here in a week or two.
Is there any character maquettes in there? There was many in Ratatouille book...

I highly recommend The Art of Kung Fu Panda. I also grabbed The Art of WALL.E, but it's pretty lame. There must have been a ton of pre-production art work for that movie, but none of it made it into the book.

Mine arrived from Amazon today... and my resolve to *not* look through it lasted all of two minutes
Such awesome artwork... how could I resist?!
Concerning the "big spoiler" - did those of you who were surprised/shocked/dismayed by it not read the official "teaser" comic that was released at the NYCC? It was in there, and I assumed that it would be in the film... so I guess that was spoiled for me weeks ago.

A few maquettes, but it's loaded with Marlet's art. Most of the book is his art. (Which I heard that he's not happy about...very protective of people seeing his style and emulating it, rumor has it..but I'm happy about it!)

That's too bad. That's usually the strength of the Pixar making-of books. I'll probably still get it. Completist and all...

It's not the worst book in the world, but they both came on the same day. The Art of The Incredibles is so awesome. This book will live in it's shadow.

Anybody know any more about this? I have it on preorder and am anxiously awaiting it. Amazon still has it up there. Says it's due in dec.
Anyway, I read the art of hbII last night and relished every page. Twice as good as the first one.

Oh, I just can't stop about Kung Fu Panda, sorry...
:)
The intro animation is one of my all time favourite animated scenes. So, until DVD and other disks are out, here it is Opening Dream Sequence:

Historically, yes. But Dreamworks hit it out of the park this time. I've always rooted for both studios to do great work and now DW is finally getting it.

OT:
I think it really shows when there's one strong personality behind the move, like Lasseter or Bird. Thats why I'd love it if some animation geek takes some minutes from Monsters, Inc. soundtrack and re-animates it in Tim Burton's style...
hellboyone - do you know is there anything happening with Disney's Goofy short How to Hook Up Your Home Theater? Any DVD plans or something, as it wasn't released here as a intro to National Treasure. I'd really like to see it one day...

Cripes, that's amazing. Why didn't they make the entire film like that? How can you go from an amazing animation style like that to generic American CGI?
Seriously, you guys gotta check out that intro. It's like a glossier, more richly detailed Samurai Jack, with spectacular lighting effects and amazing art direction. Superb.

New info about the Monsters book from the same dude that reported it was cancelled:
"The Monster book may not be dead after all. I met with the Dark Horse folks at a conference I was at last weekend and asked why they killed it. She said that it was because GDT is so heavily involved in the project and equally busy promoting the film and getting rady to go off to do The Hobbit, but that he really wants to do the book and will try to slot some time if he possibly can. Keep your fingers crossed."
There may be hope yet...

I enjoyed Kung-Fu Panda way more than I expected I would, by which I mean: a lot. That opening sequence is kick-ass. It's a billionty times better than the last couple of Shrek films for sure. I don't think it has many pop culture references at all, unless you count wǔxiá references.
I really hope there's a monsters book for Hellboy II.
