So I am guessing it will be like the last issue, where they talked about a former Iron Fist?

That looks awesome! Nice to see that Duane is going to keep the Past Iron Fists going, and he's writing another Orson Randall Special in September.
This particular Iron Fist looks interesting, and that variant cover by Aja rocks.
As for what's happening with Danny... I cant really tell whats going on there... Is he having the Iron Fist chi stolen from him, again? I have to say I'm surprised to see that, its been done to death.

So there was another Iron Fist after Orson other than Rand? I know I shouldn´t be surprised, but that means there were two Iron Fist´s running around since Orson adventured with the Confederates of the Curious.

I have really mixed feelings about this comic because I love everything about it apart from the main character Daniel Rand. Give me an Orson Randall ongoing any day. However I'm still going to keep reading it if only to see more 'previous' Iron Fists.

Yeh I think that Orson is just a lot more fun to write about, because a writer could write any story they wanted, due to not having to deal with continuity. Also he's arguably set in a more story-rich setting (pulp era). I even think Duane is better with Orson than Danny and thats based solely on the solicitations:
IMMORTAL IRON FIST: ORSON RANDALL AND THE DEATH QUEEN OF CALIFORNIA # 1
The Story: The minute he saw the dame, Orson Randall knew he was in for a heap of hurt -- all in. But he wouldn’t be the hard-boiled hero he was if he didn’t go sniffing after trouble. Hero? Randall stopped the laugh in his throat. Drowned it in a slug of bourbon. Randall’s no hero. 1920s Los Angeles just ain’t the time or the place for a guy like that. Ain’t the time or place for the Immortal Iron Fist. Orson Randall’s just trying to figure the angle. And if he has to unload his .45s to do it, so much the better. Orson Randall’s just in it for the skirt.
But I have no doubt in my mind that Danny should be the main focus of the book, he's just a more compelling, more heroic character.

so we get a issue #17 preview before the issue #16 preview. i wonder if #16 is going to be late with the Aja art and if it is late, how late will it be?
Orson is a cool character. I do want to to see more of his adventures.
Hopfully the new writer will really take some time to flesh out Danny's character. Is Danny more than a mystical fighting machine? Is he a leader? What does it mean to BE the Iron Fist? I want to see more of "The Iron Fist holding back the storm, when no one else can." i want to see more of him overcomming impossible odds. Since the mantle of the iron fist is said to be a curse, we should see danny getting challenged by other worldly fighters and despots. The constant battles and death should take their toll, but also make him more of a "living weapon."

Wow The Orson comic sounds real interesting. Love the Hardboiled spin.
No wonder Orson is more interesting to a new IF fan, im also new and think Orson is way more interesting than Danny.
Thats prolly because i havent seen anything about Danny Rand dude at all. I have seen IF alot. Orson you saw his history outside the costume too.

Looks like Danny is getting beat down again. When are we going to see Fist hold back the storm? He is the living/immortal weapon yet he continues to get smoked.

To me, this actually looks like an Iron Fist from before Orson's time. Perhaps the late 1800's? I get a David Carradine/Kung Fu vibe from it.

Definitely a Carradine/Kung Fu feel or more so the man with no name Clint Eastwood type character. You could here the musical theme play as he walks into town and enters the saloon, only to be confronted by the locals. So he has to do some cool kung fu move so everyone can spread his legend.

I picked up on the David Carradine Kung Fu similarities as well. I for one am a Daniel Rand fan and although the history of the other Iron Fist is interesting my preferred Fist is Danny, not Orson or any of the others.

My favorite Iron Fist's so far are Danny (of course), Orson and Bei Bang-Wen.

There is dialog on the preview pages that we have seen. It is included in the digital preview. Also looks like Danny will be making an appearance in the next Daredevil "Lady Bullseye" story arc. It is here: http://www.marvel.com/news/.4175.FREE%7Ecolon%7E_Read_Marvel%7Eapos%7Es_Great est_Heroes_Sampler%21
Basically the villain tells Danny that he is not the first Iron Fist that he has killed, but he is the weakest. Maybe this is how Swierczynski will have Danny finally meet his full potential, now that he has the book of the Iron Fist which was kept from him. I have to say that with the dialog added, it has me more hopeful.

Granted, it does look a lot more promising with the dialog boxes added. But something about those sequences seems a bit... off, without knowing what precedes these panels.
And another artist finally uses Danny's new costume! Those pages do look a lot more promising for the Lady Bullseye story in Daredevil... and Danny's involvement cant be a bad thing... but seriously fighting ninjas? Again?

I know. I remember reading a long time ago that 1 member of the Hand was equivalent to 10 ordinary men. this was when they were first introduced. Now they along with HYDRA and AIM are just cannon fodder. Everyone just beats up these groups. Are any of them a real threat anymore? I know I don't think, "The Hand/Hydra/Aim are going to show up. I cant wait for the next issue. What is (insert hero) going to do?!!!!

lol yeah, that's the problem I'm having with this book being SO devoted to the flashbacks and history of the Iron Fist, rather than Danny himself. Dont get me wrong, I like the stories, but Danny Rand REALLY needs more screen time and development in his own book.

When you get to the link I posted, then click on the MARVEL'S GREATEST HEROES SAMPLER, highlighted blue link. It will take you to the Marvel digital reader. From there you can view previews of several upcoming books.
And... I'm gone.
After 18 issues building Danny into a competent, confident hero, one of the Immortal Weapons of Heaven, he's being punked by "Mystery Villain who is a better martial artist and can absorb the chi of Shou Lao".
Sorry, Mr. Swierczynski, but you don't appeal to fans of a character by making him look ineffectual.

Yeah, you should DEFINITELY drop the book before you read it. I mean, based on a few preview panels, you can certainly make an informed opinion about the new writer. You're clearly a huge Iron Fist fan, reading this stuff that's obviously trash would be beneath you.
They chose which pages to preview, I didn't. I can only assume Marvel wants us to judge based on that. Or would you prefer I judge by the "Let's look down Misty's shirt" page posted before?

Or you could....judge it after you have read it?
I'm just sayin', if you like the character, if you've liked the series, to declare "And...I'm done." based on some previews is just incredibly silly. The least you can do is plunk down your 3 bucks before you declare somebody is ruining Iron fist.
Didn't say anyone was "ruining" iron Fist. Merely that I wasn't going to read it. If someone else wants to, I'm not bothered.
Oh, and for the record, I'm not a fan of the character. I'm a Matt Fraction fan. :)

This book is always at the top of my favorites. and incorporating not only the other living weapons but Luke,Misty and Colleen makes it all the sweeter.

Here's a worded preview of the first few pages:
http://comicbookresources.com/?page=preview&id=729
... I'm still holding out some sort of hope that this will continue the great work of Fraction, Brubaker and Aja. Those pages send me mixed messages though. On one hand the upcoming villain looks very cool... but those first two pages don't thrill me. Granted, I think its a red herring, but still.
