For me, I preferred Brubaker over Whedon, but I think I'll prefer Ellis than Bru/Fraction. Though the best currently is Carey's.

I second this motion! I'm loving Uncanny right now, but I'm stoked as a monkey over a banana for Ellis on Astonishing! Hopefully his run isn't as boring as Whedon's!

Well, I've gotta say it a close call, but Astonishing seems like more of a "sure thing" imo. If Ellis could make Kitty Pryde grow up, he can do anything.
Plus, no Greg Land.

And Uncanny's prone to being uneven crap, going by the past decade. Seems like a fair trade off.

Yeah, I'm positive on the outlook for both though. I doubt Astonishing will be as delayed with Ellis and editorial being pretty conscious of how that screwed Whedon, and I doubt Uncanny will be quite as mediocre with Fraction and the expanded cast injecting some much needed enthusiasm.
I'd feel better if they canned Land though... they need to swipe Copiel back.

I would pick Ellis' AXM out of the two.
But i think both books will be brilliant.
Fraction & Ellis are both fantastic writers.

and those people write.....
Ed Brubaker writes Uncanny (soon he will be joined by Matt Fraction).
Joss Whedon used to write Astonishing, but that's now over.
Warren Ellis (also known to his fans as "Fifi Zimmerman") is going to be writing Astonishing.
Mike Carey is the overrated author of X-Men: Legacy, a comic you'd love if you enjoy seeing Professor Xavier telepathically control a flock of pigeons or Bobby D'Acosta knock his wine glass over in the general direction of Sebastian Shaw.

Well....the titles serve different purposes.
Uncanny is the corest of the core....the backbone of all the other titles. Lots of characters, plots, subplots...very continuity heavy.
Astonishing is a self-contained story in the timeline featuring a limited amount of characters.

At the moment Brubaker is writing Uncanny, but he is in the middle of an arc so i would say to wait untill #500 to jump on.
He will be being joined by Fraction...who is one of the best writers around at the moment.
AXM was written by Whendon, but thats over. AXM - Second Strike is written by Ellis, its pretty much the 'big'' X-Men book. but its not out yet.
It has all the A-listers, has the most hype etc etc.
The team is Cyclops, Emma, Wolverine, Beast, Storm, Armor.
Uncanny will be rotating, so far it seems that Cyclops, Wolverine, Pixie and Karma will have parts in it.
I cant wait for both of them.

I agree, the titles will xsist for a variety of reasons. Uncanny is going to be the new Flag-ship title I think. It will direct the other books and contain the main X-Mythos. Astonishing seems like it's going to be the "artsy" book. The "new ideas" book, if that makes sense. I know they claim the book will be on a normal schedule, but I have my doubts. Thunderbolts (also by Ellis) doesn't come out regularly. Uncanny does. And while it's current arc may seem a bit slow, I think some slack has to be cut. The book just got off a major event and is heading towards a 500th issue landmark (Land-mark, ....ugh...pun) .
If you pull one X-Book I would suggest Uncanny. It's not bogged down with continuity or creator snobbery.

I agree. I wouldn't give that book the time of day.
I'd say go with Uncanny because Dazzler will soon become part of the cast, and everybody knows that Dazz is the life of the party whenever she's around. Unless of course she's featured in a book named New Excalibur.:frown:

I preferred Astonishing over Uncanny previously (the whole Shi'Ar year long story was interesting at first, but quickly deterred)--with Ellis coming onto the title I expect pretty great quality output. The only problem being Marvel was notoriously bad about delaying Whedon's AXM and the new artist on the title (sorry, I forget his name) is said to work very slowly--so that doesn't bode to well for getting one issue out every month. With UXM you have two acclaimed writers and what looks to be a pretty big ensemble cast--you'll have to deal with Greg Land's porn poses and faces though. I think both titles look promising, but if you're a fan of the more "core" characters (Wolverine, Cyclops, Storm, Beast, Emma) then I'd definitely say pick-up Astonishing X-Men.
Mike Carey is the overrated author of X-Men: Legacy, a comic you'd love if you enjoy seeing Professor Xavier telepathically control a flock of pigeons or Bobby D'Acosta knock his wine glass over in the general direction of Sebastian Shaw.
LOL--sorry, but it's so true. Legacy is a yawn fest--and as much as Carey did inject some life back into adjectivelss X-men (and it's cast of several characters nobody previously gave a crap about) I haven't found him to be the second coming that everyone else does.

It's not Carey's fault he got saddled doing Xaiver Origins... if there was any justice in this world, he'd be writing Uncanny (with Copiel on art and Rogue front'n'center).
Carey's Legacy is the more cerebral of the X-books. Not all of us wants nonstop violence all the time - some of us like to actually see what the characters have going on inside as well. Ignore the jaded naysayers!

4 years of good > 4 months of bad
To be fair, I'd say Bru's had well more than 4 month of bad so far. :P
And 2 years of good stories (again, highly arguable, but I'll conceit) spread over 4 years is awful, no matter how you spin it. Astonishing in trade form after the fact: okay. Astonishing as a genre serial: pure failure.

I'll probably do Uncanny. No character on Astonishing really grabs my attention too much. At least w/ UXN, it seems like they'll rotate in different characters depending on the mission so chances are, I'll see the characters I like over there more often.

Only HALF of Uncanny is moving slow. The Colossus/Nightcrawler/Wolverine storyline has been great fun. But OTH, the whole hippy thing couldn't possible be crawling along any slower. As Hiffy said, Cyclops and Emma sure walk down the street slowly.

Now, if you're looking for a self-contained story that will probably blow you away, then go with Astonishing.

Nothing happened on Emma/ Scott's subplot. Martinque took 5 pages to remember her name and some X-Folks appeared. Seriously, they got to San Francisco THREE issues ago.

LOL, It's personal taste.
I like learning more about the X-Men mithology and the beginning of mutant appearances.
I dislike reading Emma telling Scott she wants him while they walk down a street.
