I don't think I have to explain further. People want to hate, people want to defend to the death. I don't care. I just love Spider-Man. And for anyone who wants to delete, this - yes, this is interesting. Let's discuss... Spider-Man, awesome or great?

no matter what?
I am tempted to make up a scenario to get you to think it's possible to dislike spiderman....

I know I do, and I love StanLee
I think so many 90s comics were boring from 1991-1997, and Spider-Man Unlimited is a boring Cartoon. But in other conditions I love Spider-Man (I hate the Mephisto Deal)
Maybe there is a continuation for that where Spider-Man saves Hitler beacause he doesn't want any kills and learn the truth of the Holocaust

I don't see how anyone on this board can't love him. If they didn't why would they go to the trouble of gripping, complaining, moaning, cussing, and all the other nonsense we do on here. I'm just as guilty as everyone else. Everyone loves their idea of what Spiderman is, the problem is he isn't written that way all the time, and that's where the battles occur. I don't know either guy, but I would bet Mets and ZT4 love their idea of Spidey just as equally. That's why we all fight like we do because we want to see what we think is best for "our" character. Now can't we just all get along:cool:

I love the Spider-Man character/ franchise too, but that doesn't mean I'll spend money on badly written/ drawn Spider-Man stories.
That said, BND has not been poorly written or drawn in my opinion.

There isn't another character out there quite like him. Superman has Thor and the Sentry; Batman has Captain America or Daredevil; Spider-Man really doesn't have a counterpart.
What's happening with the character in the pages of ASM right now is pretty discouraging for me personally, but the core of the character remains strong. Like Batman and Superman, I don't think his appeal will ever truly go away.

Could not have said it better. So all I will say is, Me too.

No argument here...
Actually, though I don't buy ASM currently, that doesn't mean I don't love Spidey still. I'm just old enough to not want to be a zombie. I really enjoy the back issues I'm getting though. Recently I bought Matt's "favorite" comic, ASM #267, "When Cometh... The Commuter!"

I don't necessarily agree but many people say Blue Beetle is the DC analog for Spidey.

I read ASM for 12 years until BND.
Spider-Man has and always will be my faviroute super-hero regardless.
But i simply disagree with every aspect of BND, stories/writters/general plot/EVERYTHING.
So i don't read anything spider-related anymore...and i cannot stand Ult.spidey so..

Oh yeah, I can't stand Bendis writing Spider-Man. I may enjoy some of his titles, and for examples like DD, the guy is great, but his Spider-Man is awful!
I dont read BND Spidey in much the same way as I didnt read it during the reboot, it wont last, but it definatly will give the title long-term damage that JMS couldnt entirely clean up with the previous reboot. That's what I hate the most about the mainstream title, it will forever come with baggage even when there trying to get rid of the baggage...that's not to say it's the only title that's suffering because of baggage either.
I do love Spider-Man of course, the franchise can be twisted and moved into so many variations and the characters are the richest in Marvel besides the X-Men, but there also the ones that are taken for granted the most.

-TI've heard that -- but he's closer to Batman or Daredevil than he is to Spider-Man. Up until very recently, he was another billionaire in the DCU, too.

So do I. But I'm damn well not going to read comics about him that I won't enjoy and that are made by people who have made it quite clear they don't want me as a member of their audience.
Oh, and that strip is an edited version of the daily Spidey strip. In the original, he was saving Jameson, and not because he didn't think the Holocaust happened.

I guess I don't fall into the right demographic.

I may not like BND, but I still love Spider-Man. He'll always be my favorite super hero. That being said, if I don't like the direction Marvel has decided to take the character, I will voice my opinion on the matter and stop buying the book, in this case, Amazing Spider-Man. Besides, I've been enjoying the wall-crawler's adventures in Marvel Adventures Spider-Man, Ultimate Spider-Man, Spider-Man Family and Amazing Spider-Girl. Always nice to have alternatives.

Thirded. I'm not currently pulling any of the Spidey books, but I love the Spider-Man character too much probably to ever walk away "for good." This current Spidey status quo of constantly de-aging characters and erasing or retconning past events just so that they can be "retold" somewhat differently to a new audience has utterly no appeal to me, though. (And wasn't that approach what the Ultimate line was supposed to be for?) Granted, I might overlook all this OMD/BND stuff when the Thunderbolts crossover happens or the Jimenez-drawn Daredevil guest-star arc with the newest Kraven understudy arrives, but that's my desire to give the Spidey titles yet another chance kicking in. I want to enjoy the Spidey comics; it's just that Marvel and Joe Quesada keep making it difficult for me.
