I mean give me a big break ok. I read the solicits and they are all about how oh my gawd a villain is gonna to discover Peter's secret. We just had a year of secret id revelation wiped from continuity, yet Marvel still tries to advertise these stories like this. What gives? Is it really that big a draw to a story that someone may find out Spidey's identity?

No.

But they like to think it is.

No but its shock value. They just "destroyed" continuity for some fans to make petes secret unknown. Now they tease that the secret may be out.

The idea is to get you talking about how or why they would reveal his ID after going through all the OMD trouble to remove it.

May not be a draw but it looks like it worked.

Well, if Brand New Day was supposed to return Spidey to his old Status Quo, then it makes since if they re-hash the "I know who Spider-Man is" plotline.

O for feks sake, this was the reason we were subjected to OMD/BND bollocks, so that writers with little originality could rehash old spidey plots?

thanks Joe Q.
i will NEVER read ASM.

Here's the specific section from the new teaser you're talking about: "And one of Spider-Man's greatest foes finally uncovers one of his best kept secrets..."

Why does "one of his best kept secrets" have to mean his secret identity?

Some of the biggest criticisms I've seen about BND are from fans who've jumped to conclusions who've then gone on to slam the book because of those assumptions.

That isnt the only one. I think it was used previously since BND started. Also what other secret of Spider-man's would matter? Villains discover Spider-Man's secret shampoo? Does spider-man wear boxers, or briefs?

I don't know. His origin, maybe?

Just think if Norman figured that out. He might try to replicate it.

As the guy from spidey kicks butt wrote, OMD gives marvel the opportunity to recycle stories. Worst thing is that they can afford the loss of some fans, cause 3 times amazing means more $$

Exactly. It's either his identity, OMD (which wouldn't really be "his" secret), or something that's a new secret that we never knew about. Like he killed his prom date during high school and blamed it on Paste-Pot-Pete or something.

That isnt the only one. I think it was used previously since BND started. His secret identity has not been a significant plot point since the start of BND, so I don't think anybody's overhyping it. Then again, I don't read solicitations, or if I do read them, I don't tend to remember them well. But if they are hyping the idea of villains, or people in general, figuring out Spider-Man's secret identity and not making it a pivotal part in the story (i.e., if they have been soliciting a possible reveal of his secret identity as a major part of BND thus far), then they have done and diservice and likely disappointed people who expected it to be a significant part of the story.

In more general terms, the idea of revealing a secret identity ought to a make for some compelling storytelling, especially for someone who doesn't carry the "been there, done that" mentality.

They are Marvel. They simply don't know how to not hype something, no matter how unhypeworthy.

I'm not saying this won't be a good story, I'm just making an observation about the way Marvel communicates. I find it hard getting any real, trustworthy information from their previews and interviews and wathnot.

Replicate a feek mistake in an experiment 1o-15 years ago what just happened to bite the right kid at the right time not to kill him? Good luck with that that should keep him busy for a few decades untill he gets lucky?

That would b e something to give to people like Norman as it would keep them in the labs and off the streets.
