I'm sitting here watching Meet The Press. I've been in a funk since the news broke of Russert's untimely death. I was taken aback by how personally I felt his loss on Friday. It was devastatingly sad to watch Andrea Mitchell and David Gregory and Brokaw and Olbermann on MSNBC trying to keep it together as they took the rest of the day to remember their friend. And it occurred to me that now that I work at home, usually alone with MSNBC going in background, these people are my new office mates. Kinda pathetic, but there it is. I am a huge news junkie, and every Sunday I make a date to watch Meet The Press specifically because Russert is the very best at what he does. It'll be interesting to see who takes over the show, but of course he can't be replaced.

I download Meet the Press to my mp3 player and listen to it as I run. He's going to be missed. This was a complete shock and I'm finding myself a bit more upset about it than I would have thought myself capable of.

Part of me feels like we can't have an election without Russert.

He was so good, and so good at not letting people get away with talking in circles, but saying nothing. We need him so much right now!

Russert's greatest gimmick was to use his interview subject's talking points in his questions so the subject could not use them in the answer without sounding repetitive. Brilliant.
