Which was the writer/artist run that you remember most fondly from any of the Superman books?
I'd love to see Veheirden (sp?) return with Benes, since I thought their run was classic. But I'm sure that's too recent for most folks.
Also, the Superman books in the early 80's brings back alot of memories, since I could never read them but would anticipate the day I could.
So which did you like?

On a side note, this is my first post on CBR. I opted for Newsarama a few years back coz I wanted to be on the forums that had the most people, but I have no idea what those guys are trying to do there with the whole site-renovation thing

I actually jumped into Superman with the Legion story. So uh, yeah, it was my first Superman story and nostalgia will guarantee it'll be my favorite ever.

I'd go with either John Byrne or Cary Bates/Curt Swan. Aside from a few moments here and there there hasn't been a consistently good run (for my tastes) ever since

The Superman titles have never been as consistently good (in my opinion) as they were from 1986 through (roughly) 1995. So I guess my favorite writing/art team would be Byrne and Ordway followed by Jurgens/Stern/Ordway/Simonson/Kesel, under the editorial stewardship of Carlin. Sure, the wheels eventually fell off the Triangle era at the end, but man, it still beats the hell out of the Berganza era.
I loved that even minor events would have consequences, sometimes years down the line. For example, who would have ever thought that a Fantastic Four parody story would have given rise to the Cyborg Superman? For all of the chest-thumping that comes out of DC today about how they made weekly comics work, the Superman titles were making them work for way longer than 52 issues.
Even today, with Johns and Robinson promising a cohesive Superman universe, I still feel like we've been burned one too many times with each big name creative team resetting the status quo to their own liking.
The triangle years just plain rocked.

I'm not too sure about writers right at the moment but Jack Burnley is my favorite Superman artist followed closely by Ordway.

I'm not that familiar with Superman comics but so far my favorite is All-Star Superman.
The comic is beautifully drawn, each issue can stand on it's own, it's an iconic interpretation...the only flaw is it's bi-monthly and sometimes the writer and artist don't make much use of the page and the panels will be widescreened for minimal scenes.
My second favorite era would be around the mid to late 80s. The Krypton Man, Matrix, The Phanom Zone criminals, the new interpretation of Luthor, were all pretty fun. Not as good as the classic setting but they brought out some interesting concepts, like Superman becoming a gladiator, and others.

I've been reading quite a few mid-70s stories and have been enjoying the team of Elliot S! Maggin, Cary Bates and Curt Swan.
The 1980s reboot era with Byrne is also one of my favorite times for the character.
As far as recent stuff goes, I liked Rucka's run on Adventures.

It's hard to say...
Though, the only thing keeping me from saying Action Comics since Johns took over, is that it's too new.

Actually I'm pretty excited NOW with Johns and Robinson on the books.
Prior to that, I guess I liked the 60's Superman stories.
I sometimes like some of the 70's stuff(Vartox, Blackrock, etc), but a lot of it was very poorly written with boring Curt Swan artwork.
Absolute least favorite would be most of the 90's stuff.
The McGuiness/Loeb stuff was crap too.

I'm hearing the current Geoff Johns run on Action Comics is something to follow.
As for art, I like Jim Lee's take on Superman, tho some say supes looked a bit too stiff and he was trying too hard to make Supes look all dark and broody. It worked for me tho.

Triangle era. Simonson, Jurgens, Breeding, Bogdanove, Stern, Guice, Grummett, Michelinie, Ordway, Kessel, Immonen.
I would like to see Grant Morrison as a writer and Jim Lee as the artist.
