Where is the love for this guys, one of very favorite villains? Not sure why he has fallen to second tier status over the years but I have always loved him. I notice he never got used in Ultimate Spidey and has yet to make an appearance in new Spectacular Spidey TV show (which is excellent btw).
I know Peter David used him in a pretty cool comeback in FNSM right before OMD but, by and large, I get the feeling most fans today could take or leave The Big M. Me, I love him: great great classic costume, fishbowl helmet and all; cool "powers" even though they are not super (a nice match for Spidey's science background and intellect); I also love the fact that he does not have any other motivation other than crime.
I absolutely love all the old Stan Lee stories with ASM #66-68 as my all-time favorites (where Spidey thought he was shrunk in an amusement park) and then Marv Wolfman's "Burglar" storyline culminating in ASM #200 (in my Top 10 Spidey tales of all time but strangely underrated in most lists that I see).
Wanna hear from you guys on why this guys doesn't get more love!!

Mysterioooo!
Its really tha roundness of the fishbowl in the classic costume that makes him look corny, not to mention the green and purple colour scheme he had going(yeah yeah Lizard, and Goblin were guilty of it too I know, but they made their's look cool).
But I'm pretty sure one can improve upon the design. I particularly liked the Hell's Mysterio in the FNSM, maybe they can use that.
Also, they oughta expand the motivations of Mysterio, Maybe have him on the path of going straight before Spidey does something stupid to revert back again, haven't seen that angle used...
Of course it could apply to any of the current Mysterios running around; whether it be the Klum teleporter, Danny Berkhart, or hole in head Beck.

Anyone played the first Playstation Spidey game?
The Mysterio level in that was awesome! Heck in the 'what if' mode, you could do bullet time pose with the faux Spidey played by Mysterio!
He also had a hilarious appearance in the Spider-Man 2 game. Especially when you confront him in the end. His life bar goes on increasing and increasing(omigod he's gonna be tough), and then .....BAM! One Punch! And he's down! That left me laughing so much!

He's an impressive villain. And there was a fairly long time when his appearance in the Spider-man books guaranteed a good story.
Amazing Spider-Man #13
Amazing Spider-Man Annual One
Amazing Spider-Man #24 (perhaps the most underrated Lee/ Ditko Spider-Man tale)
Amazing Spider-Man Annual 4
Amazing Spider-Man #66-67
Amazing Spider-Man #141-142
Amazing Spider-Man #193-200
Roger Stern's Peter Parker the Spectacular Spider-Man story with the Tinkerer's aliens

Also liked the "ghost Mysterio" story from around ASM #144 or so (right in midst of Gwen clone storyline).....I remember Spidey pummeling a brick wall where he thought Mysty was and banging up his fists pretty bad. That story had him questioning his sanity as well. When done right, Mysterio can kinda be Spidey's Scarecrow.

Mysterio is my 2nd favorite Spider-Man villain, i always find it's a good tale if he is involved.

I love Mysterio, but it's a little dissapointing that he does not have a really major storyline, and he should.
I liked the one with Ben Reilly though...

While Byrne's run mostly sucked, I was rather intrested in the arc where Mysterio captured Spidey's entire supporting cast and placed them in his virtual reality simulation.
I'll also support the Spider-man 2 videogame aperance. The whole Mysterio subplot there was just great.

Hmmm, I forgot all about that story till you mentioned it.....a very good tale that I will have to dig out and re-read sometime soon! (The Stern story in PP:SSM, that is)

Yes, I adore Mysterio. I think the fishbowl is one reason, the powers are another, the colour scheme is another, and the biggest is simply that he's one of the few Marvel villains who remembers that capes are *AWESOME*, dammit!
To this day my absolute FAVOURITE Spidey villain.

I liked the one with Ben Reilly though...A really under-rated Mysterio story. Quite a lot of fun, and a terrific costume redesign!

Love him to death, fish bowl and all.
Easily one of my favorite Spidey villains behind Venom.

Oh, the thread just shot itself in the head.
You just reminded me about how after Mysterio died in Daredevil, all his apperances featured him showing up and appearing to die again, like they were trying to erase the whole thing and nobody was buying it.

Mysterio, Mysterio, Mysterio. How I love thee. This guy is one of the greatest and most underrated Spidey villains ever. I'm happy that he's going to appear later on in "Brand New Day". I sure hope it's Quentin Beck. I like what they've done with him by bringing him back in a hell form and he was also the best Mysterio. Mind you the originals are always the best. Venom, Green Goblin, Hobgoblin. Need I say more?

Does the first arc of Daredevil v2 count?
Anyway, Mysterio is my favorite Spider-Man villain. I vividily remember the 60's Spider-Man cartoon episode with him. Fond memories.

I love Mysterio, especially Mr. Spock from "Star-Treck" (this is how Quentin Beck looks like, i don't kid)
This villain should stay alive, but for our misfortune he met his demise

Actually I never got his death in DD. I mean, why would he want to avenge DD, I think that they have never met! I just think that
i) Kevin Smith used a random character, or...
ii) Kevin Smith really likes Mysterio and he is using him in random ways
Really underrated the clone saga story. I think it's one of the best from that period.

I actually loved the Kevin Smith story in and of itself; I think he wanted to use a "B-level" (his perception) character that no-one was doing much with at the time and for quite a few years prior. It was also a good left hook that noone (including DD) saw coming as he is not a DD villain. Story was written well and drawn absolutely beautifully.
BUT, this is another example of what I like to call "buzzard writing" whereby a writer comes in, craps all over things and then leaves. Other writers had to scramble to pick up the pieces (no pun intended) of the Mysterio suicide and it was not until Peter David's FNSM arc from just prior OMD that anyone even really tried. Grant Morrison is another buzzard but that's another whole discussion.
Bottom line, I think Kevin Smith just saw Mysterio laying around unused and Marvel was like, "OK---whatever" and, I think most would agree with me, it [I]was[I]a really good story.
At least Karen Paige's death benefited the DD title for years, I wouldnt call Kevin a "buzzard" in that sense since it wasnt forgotten
...Though "The Evil That Men Do" is VERY clearly a case of "Buzzard" writing from Kevin, since he tries to set up his own version of Mysterio in that story and Marvel have all but ignored that

mysterio is in many ways a guy done in the tradition of such self made men as batman and dr doom.
he's a stunt man, with mastery of fx but no real powers, yet is able to make spidey's life miserable.
he would have been perfect in a suicide squad/thunderbolts type comic and he still has tons of potential for awesomeness.

It is amazing looking at these posts how very few great Mysterio stories there have been since the '70's.....They haven't been as consistently good (although there were periods in the past when Mephisto didn't appear for several years, which could be responsible for the rare Mysterio appearances being good.)
Dematteis's Webspinners three parter is probably Beck's recent highlight. but there have been some other good stories (Spider-Man Unlimited #5, and Web of Spider-Man #90 come to mind.) Still, a lot of his recent high-profile stories have been disappointments.

I was referring to the suicide of Mysterio in the "buzzard" labelling though you are correct about Karen Page. Still he did it again in "Evil That Men Do" and it isn't just Kevin Smith; this seems to be a pattern on most short-term writers who come onto a book with no regard for how a story will play out down the road. Of course, one could argue that the days of a Stan Lee writing a book for 10 years are over but it seems more prevalent amoung the "name" writers like Kevin Smith to shock and awe the audience with some major supposed-status quo changer and then leaving the crap for the editors and new writing team to clean up.

A small correction for the original post...
Mysterio technically HAS appeared in the new TV show. Just not as Mysterio yet. Quentin Beck was the guy doing Chameleon's special FX.

And I hope he's in Spider-Man 4.

The DD story was amazing, and because I loved it I tried to find why would Mysterio just do that to DD, and I couldn't find a connection. I understand why he did it, but if I were him, I would have used a minor DD character and the shock value would be the same, I guess.

From what i understand,i belive that Mysterio looking for a new challenge before cancer kills him.Scarlet Spider(Ben Raily) was a clone so even his encounter with him,Mysterio believes that Spiderman is still a clone(despite that back then Peter was back as Spiderman). DD was the perfect replacement for Mysterio(in his own twisted logic).

I remember reading on the comics continuum website that Mysterio, Kraven and Molten Man are some of the new villains that will be popping up in season two along with another batch of the Sinister Six, but with two different members this time and the return of some of the villains that were in the first season .
The villains they confirmed that are coming back in season two so far are Chameleon, Vulture, Sandman, Rhino, Electro Hammerhead, Tombstone and Venom.
