View Full Version : Amazing Spidergirl #21 Brand New May ** Spoilers**

Don't know if I can explain all the spoilers of this book, because I haven't been reading it. It's full of Teen angst, and I can't recognise Mayday from the days in her first series. She's tied up with some guy named Thomson who is manipulating her, but she seems to fend him off quite easily. Unless they are having lots of sex, I don't know why they stay together, except for some teenage need to belong.
But Maydays guilt trips happen fast and strong in both #20 and #21, when the Mutant chick and the big fat guy lay into May for being so brutal. It's all a misunderstanding, but May takes it way too hard, and she should just get in their face and tell them to get a life.
I picked this up because of the clone storyline. It seems, from #20, that Norman Osborn has discovered an experiment done by his grandfather, the esteemed Norman Osborn senior, where Norman cloned May, and put the clone in the baby Mays place for Kaine to rescue and give back to her parents. Peter gets upset with young Normie for even suggesting such a thing, but they go away and try to test the girl swimming in the green embrionic fluid. Peter takes some of the fluid out, but it expodes in the open air, and we have to wait to next issue for Mayday to go searching for Peter, and discover the smashed lab and her sister.
I don't know where Tom DeFalco is going with the soap opera that is Maydays personal relationships, because it all seems so tedious. But one thing Tom does have to revisit is the early days of Spidergirl, right after Norman Osborn kidnapped the baby, up to Kaine returning the baby to Peter and MJ. Now that would be a story.

Well it seems that the Soap Opera Drama is kicking up in Amazing Spider-girl and is over shadowing the REAL ISSUE of this arc and that is the Brand New May....
Now from what I know of this arc is that Peter is going to be rounding up the usual suspects of Goblin and Clone saga lore... and it seems like the Fury the goblin queen is first, in next month's issue.
Also I wouldn't worry about the Mutant girl, who is called Nucleus for she may be joining up with the X-people or is dead by the time this arc is over, check out the solicts for the next few Spider-girl issues. :frown:
I willing to admit that compare with the Drama of the previous series, I have to say that it's a bit too much, even for me.
But I'm staying on and seeing where this arc is taking us, because either way we're going to get a fight or two somewhere across the line.

Welcome to today's Fixing a Spoiler Thread! We're going to take a struggling spoiler thread and fix it. The only winners are all readers! Let's get started.
Don't know if I can explain all the spoilers of this book, because I haven't been reading it.Why, that one's easy! Start with something like "We start out with May and her boyfriend Gene on a date. The call is interrupted by a phone call from Uncle Phil, which transitions to a spot that picks up where the shocker left off last issue, and then back again."
It's full of Teen angst, and I can't recognise Mayday from the days in her first series. Now, now. That's inserting commentary before giving the spoilers! Or, in the case of "Teen angst" providing spoilers based on opinion. Sure, for now we'll call it teen angst. But what kind...? (We'll get to that latter comment later.)
She's tied up with some guy named Thomson who is manipulating her, but she seems to fend him off quite easily. It's Thompson. He's most often identified as Gene, but you could call him Gene Thompson, if you'd like. But we already covered this bit it in the opening sentence! Remember? Let me refresh...
"We start out with May and her boyfriend Gene on a date."
See? Now, is he really manipulating her if she's able to fend him off? Not the best choice of words. Hmm... Let's go with, "In that sequence, May is in a conversation with Gene about her responsibilities regarding him. Phil's call breaks things up, we learn that Peter's not as early for work as normal, and then go into why. Peter is in the meeting with Normie Osborn we left him in last issue regarding the body of May in a tube, suspected to be the real deal. Here, Peter assaults Normie, as he thinks the thing's a trick. He calms down, though, and the scene ends with the two men contemplating what to do about the May in the tube, now identified as 'Project: Changeling'. Then we return to May's date, where she briefly has to put up with Simone DeSantos and gets roped into trying out for cheerleading."
Unless they are having lots of sex, I don't know why they stay together, except for some teenage need to belong. Again, commentary much too soon! We'll move this down to later and modify it a bit.
But Maydays guilt trips happen fast and strong in both #20 and #21, when the Mutant chick and the big fat guy lay into May for being so brutal.Sara Hingle (the Mutant chick) and Moose Mansfield (the big fat guy) do lay into her. That's in this issue. No need to reference issue #20.
It's all a misunderstanding, but May takes it way too hard, and she should just get in their face and tell them to get a life.Opinion amidst spoilers! This seems to be a recurring trend. Even still, this whole sequence should be discussed later! There's plenty of issue to cover beforehand.
How about... "The story flashes forward to the next day. We learn Peter is avoiding May. Then we see Davida deciding to deal with the proposed Humanity First club at school while May herself tries to have a conversation with Sara Hingle, but Sara just blows her off angrily. The story briefly shifts to Normie confronting Elan--Fury, the Goblin Queen--about Project: Changeling. She reveals nothing.
"Then, we return to see Davida's confrontation with Humanity First and the fallout therein. We see May ditch cheerleading after a conversation with her friend Wes. Finally, the story gets the Spider-Girl action of the issue."
Right. So we got the climax of the issue. And where are you?
That's a lot going on there. Conjecture, opinion, and omission of events.
"Spider-Girl follows Sara to her destination and realizes Moose Mansfield is doing the same. Briefly, a psychic named Headcase is introduced. She reveals to Sara and Piroutte and Impact (who are inside the building Sara enters) that Sara was followed. They give Sara a costume, and she goes out to confront her stalkers. Cue the action sequence where Moose gets knocked down and Spider-Girl fights Sara, now Nucleus, for several pages, all the while the two discuss ideals.
"There is a brief segue to Peter and Normie working learning more about Project: Changeling. Peter takes a sample from the tube, only to have it react. It explodes, and Peter's fate is left hanging until next issue.
"Back at the fight, Spider-Girl realizes things are getting out of hand and puts a stop to it. Moose berates her for handling the situation so poorly and she walks away, head held low."
There. Now it's opinion time!

But one thing Tom does have to revisit is the early days of Spidergirl, right after Norman Osborn kidnapped the baby, up to Kaine returning the baby to Peter and MJ. Now that would be a story.See? You knew to save your important thoughts for the end. Gold star!
Now to address those thoughts you inserted earlier. "This issue seems to be filled with a fair share of teen angst. I don't know where it's headed and I'm not sure I like it. I think it distracts from the ongoing clone sub-plot, and that plot is the only reason I'm buying the comic!" That seems to adequately capture the sense of things.
"On top of that, I don't even recognize May from the last time I bought one of her comics, back in the first series." Nice addendum, that.
"Now it seems, from #20, that Norman Osborn has discovered an experiment done by his grandfather, the esteemed Norman Osborn senior, where Norman cloned May, and put the clone in the baby May's place for Kaine to rescue and give back to her parents. Not bad Joe. You took more notice of the book than I thought. Especially that part about Peter not wanting to run into May in the morning. Now I wonder what that's all about.
And on the point of filling in all the spoilers, I don't think I could have done as good a job, Joe.

Still something Bugs me, is the clone dead as Peter took a sample or is it still in it test tube chamber ? :frown:

Not bad Joe. You took more notice of the book than I thought. Especially that part about Peter not wanting to run into May in the morning. Now I wonder what that's all about. It likely relates to the Project: Changeling discovery. He doesn't want to confront her until he knows what's going on, as she may very well be a clone.
And on the point of filling in all the spoilers, I don't think I could have done as good a job, Joe.Keep in mind, however, that I do not necessarily share your sentiments regarding the events. I found the standard teenager stuff much more engaging than the (somewhat) hero vs. hero fight. The clone story is the most interesting part, though.

Peter took a sample of the liquid from the chamber. The clone remained in the tube. That is, of course, if the glass wasn't shattered when the sample blew up.

I was unaware there was formal etiquette for spoiler threads.
There isn't. I was just having a little fun. And, thankfully, jackolover was a good sport about it all.
I do feel that a spoiler thread should include a fairly all-inclusive summary of the issue. And I've seen a fair number of complaints from people regarding summaries that insert opinion as it goes along. This is not to say either of those go against some sort of etiquette. I just thought I'd rework the opening post to fit those criteria, all in a fun whimsical fashion.
check out the solicts for the next few Spider-girl issues. :frown:
Yeah, Peter's "strange symptoms" may be leading to a collosal cardiac arrest of Aunt May proportions...it could be a red-herring to the death though, seeing as MJ is also attending a school with a highly dangerous racist faction

It was a bloody awesome issue. All the plots were good and interesting, but the one that I'm mainly interested in is the clone/changeling plot. We know Pete's gonna be alive because of the future solicits, however next issue they said he'll develop strange symptoms noticed by MJ.
