So I've been out of the comic book hobby for some time now (1994 was the last time I remeber buying a comic book) and was interested in getting a few of my old books graded. I've been looking around and have found two companies offering the service. CGC and PGX. CGC I've seen around for awhile now and from the research I've done seem to be a very reputable company. PGX however is a little cheaper and fairly new from what I understand. My question is what is the difference if any besides the price. I've read both companies feedback but I'd like to get some more opinions as to which company I should go with. I'm leaning more towards PGX as price plays a big factor for me, but I think I would pay extra if the service was substantially better with CGC.

We don't really discuss grading too much on this board.

You might have better luck at ComicPriceGuide.com or at CGC's in-house boards. You might be able to get accurate grades just from detailed scans.

I personally don't believe in slabbing, but see the benefits of grading if you're going to try to insure or auction off your books.

grading is crap. The process they use is not for preservation quality, but to market an item at the time it is graded. Using one of those companies for any comic past like 1980 is a waste anyways. You could sell them to newbie fools, but...
