I'm trying to figure out how to make the Template Reflist work correctly on my newly installed Media Wiki. Anybody know how to help me with this? I've copied several Wikipedia Templates trying to get it to work, but I'm sure I screwed up somehow. If you can help me please hit me up on yahoo IM or AOL IM. My username on both is projectfanboy. Thanks

I think so. I haven't a clue.

What I can tell you is your sig annoys the crap out of me. There's no such thing as a "first annual" anything. It can't be annual until the second one.

Should I mention it's also classless to name awards after yourself? Or even the project?

If the signature annoys the crap out of you, I hope you wipe when it's done. Secondly, you do not have to have the second one to constitute something being an annual event. If you had only worked for an employer for two weeks you could still refer to the wage you're expected to make that year as your annual salary.

I'm not sure where you've gotten your ideas on what's classy and what's not, but since the Project Fanboy Website hosts the awards, it made sense to name them the Project Fanboy Awards. Would you think them "classy" if we named them the Paradox Awards? Unfortunately for you, we won't be doing that though, the more than five thousand other nominations recieved by people around the world speak a little louder than what you deem "classy". Have a nice day.

Now, before this thread got hijacked it was about MediaWiki templates. Anyone have any insights into my template problem?

ProjectFanboy misses the point:

Since I have no connection with it, that would be silly.

Actually doesn't speak to "classy" in the least. But my point is, it's better to find something/someone to HONOR with the name. For example, the awards given here at CBR are not the "CBR Awards", but rather, the Corries, named in honor of Jim Corrigan's role in Kingdom Come (the book that started the original discussion boards that started the whole shebang here). Likewise, when I was creating an awards group for the Avengers Message Board over at Comicboards.com, I didn't name them the "AMB Awards", but rather, the Jarvys, after Edwin Jarvis, the Avengers longtime butler. Not only is it classier, it's more creative and better advertising. As it is, it's as self-aggrandizing as these corporate sponsors plopping their name on football stadiums.

Nope. But you might want to go ask at the Wikipedia forums. It's more likely you'll find the info you're looking for at a place that, y'know, is the actual site for that kind of thing.

As far as Corporate Sponsors plopping their name on football stadiums go... and I'm just totally throwing this out there... maybe, just maybe those corporations have professionals whose job is to come up with ways to advertise, and I just gonna take a stab in the dark and say that they're probably better at it then you.

I'm not going to continue to argue with you about what you think the awards should or should not be called, that's what they've been advertised as and changing the name now would be counterproductive. And no offense but in the few months that they've been in existence they've done quite well without your input, so I don't think a name change is warranted.

Oh, hey, just throwing it out there myself. Take it or leave it like any advice.

Although citing the advertising business in a discussion about "classy" is beyond bizarro.

Nope. Different uses of the word annual.

An annual award is given once a year. An annual salary is earned over the course of a year. "First annual" is an oxymoron, or at best speculation. The first one is the "first" or "first ever" or "new" or some other such descriptor. A year later when there's a second one, it becomes annual.

"Inaugural" works well when you want to say "first" but sound more important.
