I wish these alternate covers didn't cost so much! ($10-20 at my LCS) If they were priced nomally I would get them all. This is a nice cover....

silvestri should know better than to do big headshots. that is not his strength. see messiah complex HC cover for this.

This isn't bad compared to alot of other garbage out there (ie. see anything in Young X-Men). I'll take this any day.

True, not his strength, but this looks a lot nicer than what I've come to "accept" from him.

So that's good.

Not bad.

The alternate covers are the only thing keeping sales of Cable high. At my LCS (which is really small) there was a stack of 15 unsold copies of Cable #4. I joked with the guy who runs the place about it and he said they make so much off the demand of the alternate covers that they buy a bunch of issues to make sure they enough of them, but they barely sell anything other than the alternate cover issues (and for like $25 - what a ripoff!).

As soon as the alternates stop, sales of Cable are going to plummet.

Is it just me or are they portraying Cable's bionic arm more "robotic" these days, like with the hinges and exposed joints? I don't know, but it seemed like before, all he had was what could basically be called a "metal-colored" arm, if you know what I mean.

Well .. that's no doubt partly due to Liefeld's lack of design skills in the first place.
But yea, been wondering about that myself since seeing it partly shattered by Deathstrike's claws in MC with plates bent and twisted. You'd think a nanovirus would for the most part simply replace organic equivalents with techno-organic "cells".
Mostly though i think it's up to the individual creator. Much more fun to draw a bionic arm with visible parts than to make a metallic glove (so to speak).

However perhaps it is more than just artstyle. They were talking after all about making Cable morelike the original design and originally Cable was nothing more than an old guy with a cyborg arm.

I don't like it.

He doesn't really look like an old man, a grizzled and world-weary veteran. He looks rather young.

Ignore the guns and put the eye back and it kinda looks like Quicksilver!

I always envision Cable more ravaged looking. Older.

Cable as portrayed on Easter Island.

They brought in Silvestri to make the baby seem even tinier in comparison to Cable's huge melon.

To be fair, Cable has looked younger ever since Brooks drew him for Cable & Deadpool, possibly even before then...

How old physically is he supposed to be?

From his earliest appearances I would have said 50.

Nowadays I'd say 40.

While I'm not the hugest fan of the variant, I absolutely detest the artwork for Cable. So this is an improvement for me.

A, It has its moments. Like in Issue 3, 2nd page, 3rd panel. That was a great drawing of Dani's ass.
