No not the classic horror films of those mutant tomatos which killed people. No this is about the 16 state Tomato scare where they were pulled from restraunts and food stores. Its hit here in WV and Virginia where I tried to get one yesterday !

I am pretty pissed. Tomatos are my favorite thing to eat for breakfast , on sandwiches and at dinner. I am a tomato addict. But I don't like those cold tomatos that some places serve you in restraunts. Those don't jive with my tastes. They gotta be the kind that sits out...and if its a good Tennesse home grown tomato its even better !

Now imagine going COLD TURKEY for 2 days ! No tomatos people. None on a sandwich or at a Wal-Mart or Kroger ! Don't they know I'm a damn addict and I need that delicious vegetable ?

Its gonna be a hell on me as I wait on my favorite thing to return.:frown:

According to urban legend, people used to think that tomatoes were poisonous, until a man named Robert Gibbon Johnson ate a bunch of tomatoes in public and failed to die. From Wikipedia:

The story goes that the lingering doubts about the safety of the tomato in the United States were largely put to rest in 1820, when Colonel Robert Gibbon Johnson announced that at noon on September 26, he would eat a basket of tomatoes in front of the Salem, New Jersey courthouse. Reportedly, a crowd of more than 2,000 persons gathered in front of the courthouse to watch the poor man die after eating the poisonous fruits, and were shocked when he lived. In his book Smith notes that there is little, if any, historical evidence for any of these legends, and that they continue to be repeated largely because they are entertaining stories.

Unfortunately, if someone ate a basket of tomatoes today, he probably would die.

Have a farmers market nearby? Tomatoes grown in backyards are safe, it's just the crop type that could be contaminated.

I look at it this way:

I got 10 plants on my patio, and when the tomatoes start rolling in, I'll have to start a black market.

"I got what youse need. Whad'ya want? A Big Boy? Carolina Gold? Roma? Beefsteak? Hell, I even have Brandywines, but dem'll cost ya."
