I haven't read it in a long, long time...I can't really remember if it's any good. Should I buy it? It's a pretty big book, twelve issues...but is it worth buying? Is it boring? Or is it fun and has good re-readability? Reviews/suggestions welcome...
Thanks for helping me out...

It's a classic and loads of fun. It's just classic good vs evil in the might marvel tradition. You know, the straightforward superhero stuff. Plus just about everybody gets a nice moment to shine. Get it.
... We are talking about the Beyonder storyline and not the Bendis one, right? I get those confused sometimes.

Yes you should ... I was in the same position as you about a year ago bought it and loved every minute of my reread of it ..
...my favorite part was when she-hulk copped an absolute beating from the villains and as she is a bloody pulp on the ground Doc Ock picks her up with his tentacles and says "now for the coup de grāce!" and slams her into the wall.

If you're going to get critical with the book, it was probably a few issues too long, and had some petty crap in the middle, but there's good stuff throughout. Not the deepest book in the world, it's the comic equivalent of a wrestling PPV, but damned if it doesn't get the job done.

It's dumb, but fun. I don't think holds up that well, and at times you really feel the editoral strings, but that's part of it's charm.

There are no editorial strings. None. Because the boss wrote the story. It's just Shooter was never much one for subtle plot points.

I reread this about a year ago and thoroughly enjoyed it. It's no Watchmen, but it's a fun story with some excellent Mike Zeck artwork. The cover to issue 10 is one of my all-time favourites. Shooter handles most of the characters well, with the possible exception of the X-Men.

I liked it and would recommend it. Ok it's not great literature, but it's not too bad.
I keep hoping for a Secret Wars II tpb. Anyone know if this is likely?

Secret Wars was my introduction to non-Spidey/Hulk characters and I loved every minute of it
granted the art suffers a bit midway with the Layton stuff (great artist I know, but I didn't like his SW issues)
totally worth buying imo, though shop around for a good price
my fav bits include Doom trying to get Galactus' help in fighting Beyonder, only to realise that he's insignificant, Spidey trashing the X-Men, Cap's battle with Doom
truly a classic series in my eyes, whatever the faults there may have been

It also led to a few interesting storylines in the core books-here we see the beginnings of Spider-Man's black alien costume, of course, She-Hulk temporarily replacing the Thing on the FF, and the "Banner Hulk" starting to go savage again (and eventually totally mindless). X-men wise, it paved the way for the 'good' Magneto of the 80s.

Secret Wars was a fun read but if i could go back in time i would have juts read it in Barnes & Noble instead of buying it. Although i do have a few favorite pages i go back and look at every now and then.

Why didn't Mike Zeck become as big as George Perez?
