The preiview was fantastic, The shock of death was displyed without a lot of hype, very moving but low key. Very British.
I have added new favorite female character Faiza is fantastic, now there are to heroic Muslim women in the MU and I love both the characters.

read the article in the Daily Mail, but as always it was taken out of context. it is always funny to see comics used in mainstream media by people who are not actually familiar with the comic medium. there is always a slightly patronising tone to it....
that being said, the preview art was fantastic. being british i guess i am just happy to see us getting involved in the invasion. The first issue was great and it looks like issue two will keep up the high standard

Aw cripes, so a Braddock is "dead" again? How many times is that now? Previews look good tho, so I'll roll with it.

Well his name's in the title, so he won't be dead for long. Captain America reasonably notwithstanding, since they just launched this one.
This is easily the most exciting of the Secret Invasion books so far. I love the response to Brian's death, I love Faiza, and all the dialogue is top-notch. More Cornell!. #1 was my first impulse by in a year or so. Started checking it out in the store and couldn't put it down.

Faiza is definitely one of my favourite characters in the Marvel Universe and she's only been properly seen for less than a month. There's something very appealing about a female Muslim British-superhero fangirl. And now she has those creepy deconstruction powers (and maybe more?), all the better!
Beyond The Beyonder, it's possible for there to be a new Captain Britain. Or Braddock returning as Cap. Or Braddock returning as something slightly different.
It's about time the Skrulls were seen as a proper sci-fi army too. And Tink is back! Hurray!

I love that grovelling of Wisdom for Tink to help him, by terms of treaty... I'm so glad that's being followed up on.
So Brian is dead? I like the way Cornell is acknowledging the rapport between a Captain and the people of his Britain. Each Captain Britain is literally powered BY the collective consciousness of his people - if a Captain dies they feel, and vice versa.
Of course, by the same rules, a strong enough collective thought could possibly will him back into existence, in theory. It's never happened before. But who knows...?

I would've thought she'd be like really preachy and judgmental about all the damage and such, but she's been pretty cool thus far. Reminds me a bit of that girl in Bend it Like Beckham for some reason (and it's not b/c they're both British and a minority).

Is anyone else ALREADY championing the obvious Wisdom/Spitfire chemistry!?!Feels sorta weird when you remember Spitfire's really like 70-80yo but looks like she's 20 or something. When I read those pages, I was thinking Wisdom should've been calling Spitfire "ma'am."

Not really a British term of phrase...the closest thing to that would be madam. And even then i don't imagine Pete being from the part of England he's from (Essex i believe) would be likely to trot that out.

Actually, Ma'am is commonly used in the British military for female senior officers (in the same way Sir is for male senior officers). As a government agent, Pete would have undergone training with the military, and so would be likely to use the phrase IF he felt the need to politely address a woman and didn't feel it appropriate to use her actual name.

Lol. Maybe somewhere in the background, in the longterm. I do think that they have certain things in common, but let's not force something like that to happen...

'Ma'am,' as Loki points out, is used in the British Military. It's also the term used to address a senior ranking fenale officer in in the police serve.

That scene is great... I'm glad that, that plotline is being followed up on.
Yay Tink! I can't wait to see her kicking Skrull behind.

Hmmm, that is very interesting idea... We shall have to wait and see. But that would be quite cool.

That would be quite cool... But a bit odd, as she is old enough to be his mother if not his grandmother... It would be interesting.
But in my opinion Pete should be with Tink or Kitty... Neither of those looks very likely...

Sounds like a job for.... Diana Fox?! Eh, what's Merlyn been up to recently? I never finished DBTS? :/
Brain also has links to the Crimson Dawn (for insta-resurrection plot devices), but I'd seriously rather avoid that mess too...

No more Diana Fox, that plotline sucked...
As for DBTS, you were wise not to finish it. You didn't miss much.

No. Thank god Sage is safely on New Exiles, now...

He's vanished again. Possibly to a secluded area of Otherworld, possibly out into another universe, to play with the people there. Sadly his actual moving on was very confusing, due to Claremont trying to write in some new part of the the Captain Britain mythos, whereby what Merlyn was actually after was Roma's 'Knowledge'. He never explained why, or how, he just gave itr all to Sage.
I really hope that series just get's ignored, now...

Yes. Considering Brian's only connection with the Crimson Dawn resulted in his powers being stripped away from him. That made little sense, either.

That's true, there could be a new Captain Britain I suppose.
What if Faiza is the new Captain Britain? Just a thought from left field.

There was an article on Marvel.com a few weeks ago about which of the MI-13 members could be the new Cap, now that Cap's dead and, presumably, there needs to be another one. It had some nifty dialogue from each character's point of view and I think Faiza's definitely stands out as the best . . .

In all honesty, I would hope not. Partly because I still think it's a bit soon for another new Captain Britain, but mostly because Faiza appears to have a new powerset of her own. If you make her a Captain then you saddle her with a different powerset on top of that, and a lot of other elements. I'd rather see how these new powers play out.

I don't think this is going to be the case. Cornell was pretty enthusiastic about Brian as a character in all the interviews before #1 dropped. He apparantly wanted to fix all the shoddy writing that had plagued him recently in the excalibur/n-ex series. I.e. being an wino because he drinks occasional and that awful blunder hex thing. I don't think he meant he'd do it by blowing him up in the first issue.

Yes, the likelihood of Brian actually being dead, long-term, is not particularly high.
Although the 'Buffer' Roma put on Brian's powers, in order to force him to work in a team wit the rest of Excalibur, was removed at the end of the Alan Davis years. It's been gone a long time.
I want to see Cap's continuity fixed - although I really do doubt that there is any real way to fix the mess Claremont made with removing Brian from his post as Guardian, off-panel, or the craziness of X-Men Die by the Sword. I'd prefer that a lot of that was just left behind, and moved on from.

I thought it was just that he couldn't contact otherworld after HoM until DBTS.
I would like to see Meggans fate explored at some point though.
