I don't really read Marvel, but I read Secret Invasion #1 and #2..... liked them, but I'm told the final page of #2 shows an army of 'Super Skrulls', but instead of just having the powers of the FF, they all have different powers from different teams in different eras. (So, the 50 State Superteam dealimabob was probably a Skrull plot to farm teams and powers for their superskrulls?)

But wait; how does this Super-Skrullery work? How exactly do they aquire the powers of various teams? How can they only be limited to one team, instead of just picking and choosing from what superhumans they like?

I know, I know; I'm a DC fan to the point where I don't question Amazo, but this leaves me wondering. Can anyone explain this to me?

The whole Super-Skrull program is genetic engineering on the part of the Skrull military. Each individual Skrull gets whatever powers the command decides to assign them, and those are the only powers they have.

Hi! I have not been reading "Secret Invasion", but I am curious about this question. Are the Super Skrulls entirely the product of genetic engineering? Or is there an element of technology included in their empowerment? I ask because I remember a Marvel Team-Up from way back in the 70s or 80s (it was drawn by John Byrne). In that one, Spiderman and the Human Torch took on the Super Skrull. (The Skrull took out the Torch and someone else came along to help Spidey take out the Skrull - can't recall who, at the moment). At any rate, there is a bit during Spidey's battle with the Skrull where the Skrull's power starts to fade. Both of the combatants look up and see an enormous pillar of energy shooting into the sky. It turns out that this is the energy that is being beamed, directly from the Skrull homeworld, to the Super Skrull to empower him. He and Spidey had ended up taking their battle under some power lines which had the effect (temporarily) of blocking the beam, thus leading to the SS's fading powers. The Skrull destroys the power unit that is blocking the beam, thereby regaining his powers. I can't recall the rest of the story, but I imagine that this revelation later figured into how Spiderman beat the Skrull.

Sincerely,

Shaun

The best explanation of how the Skrull thing works can be found In the MODOC's 11 mini series. AIM has the technology to upload super-powers, so why shouldn't the Skrulls considering they're more advanced?

I don't think they are limited to one team, it's just that creators do that.

The X-Men Skrull looks fantastic, as an aside :D

It is genetic engineering but traditionally the Skrulls have a "power implant".

Either the implant actually powers their modified genes... or it's essentially some crazy nanotech constantly rewriting their DNA based on the samples provided to give them all the powers.

Is there an X-Statix Skrull? Or a B-Sides Skrull?

Those would be awesome.

There might be a Milligan X-Force Skrull, dunno about X-Statix.

Here's the last page of #2 - http://images.wizarduniverse.com/WizardUniverse/secretinvasion/si2commentary/sicommentary220.jpg

And here is a piece from a commentary:

http://uk.comics.ign.com/articles/874/874717p4.html
IGN: That last spread – the cliffhanger for issue #2 with the Super Skrulls. Were those your designs or did you just let him go wild?

Bendis: I believe the list of characters I gave him to choose from was about a page long with no spaces. It's every group and every gathering… I tried to get as nerdy as possible. Of course I'm going to do the Avengers, the Fantastic Four, the X-Men, but I want you to do Pete Milligan's X-Force. Power Pack. Force Works. But then you let him choose. I do this in every script. I say, "Here's what I think you should do. Here's what I would do if I were you, but if there's something else you need to do – do it. If this idea inspires another idea in you, then you do that." That's in every script with every artist I work with. You don't want to say, "Interpret my vision!" That's not the relationship. It's more here's my phone number. I know this is a lot of drawing. I'm trying to pace it. Try to enjoy it. Think of the resale value on the art. –laughs- Anything to get them excited!

Others are showing up in other books too. Cap Britain has a Squadron Supreme one, a Champions one, one that is at least part-Morbius and an original Avengers one, I think Black Panther will have a street fighting one.

I want there to be an original Heroes for Hire Super-Skrull, and I want it to have an afro, a tiara, a dragon tattoo on it's chest, and a silk shirt.

Well, somebody's gotta protect New Jersey (I guess).

The Defenders were doing that. They might be doing it again by the end of the Last Defenders mini.
