View Full Version : Simple Deadpool continuity question

I know Deadpool's no mutant, but I figured X-fans were likeliest to know this.
So I just saw CBR's latest interviews with Daniel Way. Not a fan of the guy's work at all, although the fact that he was so excited to work with Carey and it seems he may have learned something, I have new hope for it.
Anyway, he talks about Deadpool's history as "Wade Wilsom." That was always the secret identity we thought was DP's, but in Kelly's last story, IIRC, it was revealed that Deadpool later adopted that identity when he killed the REAL Wade Wilson. Which was a strange enough revelation, and I have a feeling the series floundered so much after that departure is no one knew what to do with it.
But I stopped reading after a while, so I don't know.
So it looks like Kelly's last Deadpool story was retconned, eh? Or is it just being completely ignored? Can anyone give me the details? Thanks!

First off, please use the "Questions Thread" at the top of the page when you have questions like this. It's stickied specifically for this purpose.
Now, you're right, the story you're thinking of where T-Ray claims HE was Wade Wilson, and Deadpool just co-opted his identity was in Deadpool (vol. 3) #32.
DP #32 ISSUE SUMMARY (http://www.uncannyxmen.net/db/issues/showquestion.asp?fldAuto=3113)
[I]Deadpool (vol. 3) #64, however, by Frank Tieri would reveal that T-Ray had a hoax.
DP #64 issue summary (http://www.uncannyxmen.net/db/issues/showquestion.asp?fldAuto=756)
And later, Fabian Nicienza would weigh in his two cents about the confusion in and issue of Cable & Deadpool when the two of them would fight, and act completely confused about it, as we all are at this point. It's become a "chicken or the egg" thing, really. Who was Wade Wilson originally before they fought? Deadpool or T-Ray?
Last word on it... it was Deadpool.

Ahh, ok, sorry about the misplacement. And thanks for the clarification. My goodness, Frank Tieri again. Most all of the lamest "developments" in the X-books while I was away seem to have been scripted by him.

I'm still processing Tieri's time on Wolverine, Deadpool, and Weapon X, where he killed off D-List characters on the average of about one an issue. Most of which, were unnecessary, and felt as though they had no impact. That's my big issue with him.

Yeah. Meaningless deaths seem to be the preferred sin of less-evolved X-writers, don't they? Tieri, Kyle and Yost, Way... and even Brubaker, quite a talented writer, seemed to inherit that when he came on-board with Deadly Genesis. But I think he'll shape in time.

Kyle and Yost, while they did it in bulk, I can't deny that it was scary, and had impact. Although it did break a lot of readers' hearts.
Brubaker's kill of Banshee in DG really did seem unnecessary. It could have been a severe incapacitation and had the same impact. It just felt... wrong. Banshee deserved better, for all he did through the years.
As for Way... I'm not sure who you're referring to him killing. Not that I'm defending his writing, by any stretch of the imagination...

Some of us cheered when C&C did that, bus explosion was one of the best moments of their run IMO.
Banshee was punked by Bru, he was trying to make Vulcan seem ruthless, and it was just a dumb way to kill him off.
With Deadpool, its really still up in the air. Fabian kinda left it as Deadpool "knowing who he is" and that it doesn't matter. I say he really is Wade Wilson, and while Joe Kelly's run was my favorite take on the character... the whole T-Ray is really Wade story was the weakest he turned out of his run.

I'm just glad i'm not an x-men writer i don't think i could handle it.

Maybe because if Kitty HAD died, it would've been meaningful? She sacrificed herself to save the Earth, as it stands right now. Whether she lives or not will have to be seen.

T Ray was just a bad villain.
They should have, and still should, bring back Slayback.

She's... not confirmed as dead, just lost in space, so to speak with the great potential to die barring comic book miracle if someone wants her back.
And it's still meaningful, and I respect Whedon for it. Kitty phased a whole damn giant bullet through the Earth to save it, at the risk of dying in space herself. If that's not a bold heroic moment, what is?

I like the behind the scenes origin on Deadpool's name. Liefeld created this character and when he showed it to Nicieza (I think it was him), Nicieza said "hey this is Deathstroke from the Teen Titans. Lets call him Wade Wilson after Slade Wilson"

And i agree it was a heroic moment and i hope that its remembered.
