The cool thing about that tribe: They're perfect for an impartial jury in the next OJ Simpson trial.

Say good-bye to the red warriors.

They are the walking dead.

They and the Polar Bears are off to Elysia. And the Gray Wolf too.

And the rest of us in a few hundred years if we don't wise up.

Which we won't.

They look pissed....

"Aw #@$%, now we're gonna haveta find another remote secret location..."

The Brazillian government is not going to allow any contact with these people at all.

Chances are they have never been exposed to a lot of the diseases that the rest of the human race has been exposed to and have almost no immunity. The common cold could wipe them out.

Well, that's good.

Anyone else get an - admittedly improper - giggle out of the fact that they were trying to shoot down the helicopter?

Looks to me like they don't particularly want the contact.

Nonono...that's their common form of greeting for visitors. If you can survive the arrows, then you get to become their newest god.....

Didn't Gen. Custer get a similar "welcoming?"

Well, yeah.

This is actually an effort to stop illegal bulldozing in the area. Factions within the Brazillian government don't want to spend more money to stop illegal bulldozing in the area because they didn't believe these indian tribes really existed.

This is the response to that.

history repeating itself, now instead of denying their existance the Brazilian Govt. will label them as "hostile", "Savage/ Uneducated" and will claim they need to be taken out of the jungle "for their own good." they'll probably pull some kind of "Manifest destiny" out their asses too.

No no no... They don't have a Republican government.

You know, if they're that isolated, I'm surprised that inbreeding hasn't kicked in yet. They mention six communities with six communal dwellings each, does anyone know if that suggests a large enough population to keep away genetic deterioration?

Orange all have weapons. I'm betting black is the shaman.

It's a distraction defensive tactic. The warriors are red, the noncombatants are black.
Notice it's a lot harder to see the black ones, and they're staying close to the more barren dirty areas where they blend with the ground and wooden buildings rather than being on the green backdrop close to the trees.
I can't be certain but it looks to me like ones in black are all female. The one in the first picture most certainly is.

The warriors are all bright and noticeable, while young children and females are likely painted to blend in with the vegetation so that it's easier for them to sneak away if things look like they're going badly. It draws attention to the fighter.

Nice. Missed the others in the second pic.

Too bad. They seemed like an interesting people when they were alive.

This comment deserves an award or some sort of aknowledgement I've read it.

I just keep thinking about what kind of impact that the very brief fly-by they did to get the photos has made on their society already.
You know that probably freaked them right out. I feel kinda bad for them.

But they are beautiful.

This is some pretty freaking cool news. I doubt their society was affected too much by the flyover. They've probably seen the "large ugly birds" flying overhead before. Maybe not ones flying so close though.

There's something, I don't know, uplifting about the fact that there's still untouched land out there.

they have a Govt that stands to gain a lot of money, they'll find a way to fuck these people, just wait and see.

oh and the term "Manifest Destiny" was coined before the GOP was established, the republicans do not have the patton on un-bound fuckery.

Very interesting story. I wonder if they can sneak in unmanned cameras or something to study them. Then again, I guess they used a helicopter and disturbed them, so maybe they didn't think of doing that first. They were pressed for time to show proof of their existance.

Didn't Gen. Custer get a similar "welcoming?"

I believe he did, but if you got past the arrows, hot native lovin' awaited.

See, this is part of why I don't get the need for belief in cryptozoology or any other paranormal bullshit. The real universe is so freaking FULL of wonder and surprise that making up boogity creatures is just unnecessary.

Well up until this flyover, this tribe was essentially mythological, as were Troy (The city), the Okapi, the Megamouth Shark, and the Coelacanth was just a dead fish.

If you don't have people going out and looking for these things, then the world is a much poorer place.

Apparently, the tribe wasn't unknown, they've been known since 1910, and the photographer was lying.

Well, not all THAT phony. They still don't seem to have had contact with the modern world, it's just that some people knew they existed and where to look for them.

Kind of wondering what contact there must have been in 1910, though. Pre-helicopter.
