If you were hired to make Doom 4, how would you make it?

I would make it like the original. No story or anything in it. I'll give it 3D graphics like Doom 3, but make it creepier. I'll also give the monsters their original look. Maybe add something a little here and there. Like the Cyber Demon with flames coming out of it's head and eyes. I'll also bring the monsters back. They took out the spiders in part 3. Didn't like that much.

Anyways, like I said, make it like the original. Probably do remakes even though I don't want to kill the original games.

I'm glad you're not making the decisions

I would make it like Doom 2. I'd like a mindless first-person shooter where it's you against the demons from Hell.

I also hate the whole claustrophobia feel of Doom 3. Why did so much of the action take place in hallways.

One of the coolest things about Doom II was walking into this wide open arena and you're taking on a huge enemy.

I'd love for some of that feel to come back.

Because Doom is really capable of having a deep, deep story.

Ya, Doom definitely needs to return to its roots.

How often did you encounter more than 4 enemies in Doom III? I want to go against legions of hellspawn with my BFG, blowing them away in a shower of blood and body parts.

So in short: more violence, more enemies, more room to move.

Right. Because the story contributed soooooo much to Doom 3.

You can't tell stories in FPS games now? Should we tell the guys who made Bioshock, Deus Ex and Half-Life to stop? Maybe tell the guys making Fallout 3 to cut back on all the talking?

Doom's as capable as anything else. The story in any one of those games I mentioned could've easily been limited to, "Shoot the bad guyz!" if nobody bothered to take it further

Who cares about story in a Doom game?
Demons come to mars or earth, you kill demons.
The games you mentioned are great, Half Life 2 is my favorite shooter. Doom doesn't need it, it's always been about killing ass tons of monsters and multiplayer. Which was two things Doom 3 lacked, good multiplayer and giant amounts of demons in one area, and that's why the game took flak, not because it had a crap story.

I was not referring to an entire genre but one game.

Doom is about doom. It doesn't need a story. The simplistic, primal nature of the game is what makes it special. The Doom character twitching his eyebrows and smiling as he blasts demons into bloody messes was enough story for me and is more memorable than 99 percent of games with real stories.

I think the story for Doom 4 should be as simple as Gear of War, and not as complicated as the Halo games.

Yeah, Doom really is about just blowing away hellspawn enemies. Toss in minimal story to at least give you some purpose.

Now setting, THAT I feel is important.
I'd love to see a post-apocalyptic style Doom game, in some wrecked city where you're one of the last hold outs against the invading horde. That would be fun, in my mind.

In case no one knows what I was talking about. I was talking about the mechanical spiders they don't have in Doom 3.

The one on the left.

To add, I'll also bring back the super shotgun. (Which was the double barrel)

Here's a story then.

You're on vacation with your family. Life's good. When suddenly hell from Mars attacked Earth. Everyone you know and love is dead. Your city's destroyed, most are up in flames, and dead bodies are everywhere. You lost contact with the marines. Once again, you're all alone. So it's up to you to fight your way back to Mars, fight the devil, and finish this war, once and for all.

And in case no one has beaten Doom 2 yet, this will be your last boss. (with some spoilers in the end of course)

Yes, once again, you're fighting this devil. Only this time, he ain't a wall anymore. He's going to have his own body.

Oh yeah, I'll bring back the original soundtracks. I especially like this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jqQx7pwKvdU&feature=related) one.

EDIT: Oh yeah, I'll also give the players the opportunity to play as monsters in multiplayer. Don't know if Doom 2 had it or not. It would make a nice add on.
