Damn,I broke that promise! In fact,I am really struggling to find time to spend on this thread and on CBR in general. The recession means I'm having to spend more time looking after my business and Mrs. Limerick is pregnant and really tired and that means I'm picking up extra work at home as well.I have lost some general enthusiasm for CBR(not these threads!)as well so I think for the moment I'm going to put my X-Books aside for a while.I'm sure I will be back at some stage but for now,Make Mine Marvel!

OK, I guess I'll pick up the thread, since we're in my all-time favorite Alpha era. (For whatever reason, the costumes especially grabbed me and I started picking the book up during the World Tour, so these were the issues I was getting "live" as it were...) I think the Furman stuff is sadly underrated and honestly the best non-Byrne Alpha there is...
The issue is part of the Infinity War crossover, something I was ignoring even at the time. The issue picks up with chaos reigning in Toronto, where Windshear is off his preferred desk duty and trying to stop random civilians from killing each other. He runs into Gamma Flight, as Manikin and Witchfire are fighting Firebug and holding their own, though that doesn't seem to get them in Windshear's good graces.
Cut to outerspace, where Earth's heroes are fighting Adam Warlock and the Infinity Watch. Heather, as usual, is worried about her "team," with Sasquatch hurt, Shaman out of it and the rest back on earth. Which brings in Wolverine. Joy, why did I start reviewing an issue with Wolverine in it? That said, he wasn't as overexposed back then and his presence in Alpha Flight has never been as hard to justify as in other titles. The runt gives Heather a quick pep talk and then they team up to face Gamora.
Shaman meanwhile realizes Talisman's in trouble, and manages to impart her some knowledge. Through that, the scene segues nicely back to Toronto, where Windshear nearly ruins everything, much to Gamma's displeasure. So Persuasion just takes control of him. That's one way to handle the problem. ... which turns out to be old friend the Master, who promises to stand against Magus.
Cut to New York and the rest of the team, as Puck, Northstar and Weapon Omega are fighting dopplegangers and Kyle feels like he's got to take charge. Unfortunately, that leaves him open to attack and he accidentally killed Daredoppelganger, much to his horror. Or, according to his own doppelganger, perhaps not so much horror. The two begin to fight as Aurora comes face-to-face with her own double -- her powers seem ineffective, but then she breaks out "Jeanne-Marie's" powers and quickly dispatches her foe.
Back to Canada, and Gamma Flight's set for a showdown with the latest Omega Flight while Talisman is still stuck inside her mind, trying to find out what demons she's released.
It's a packed issue and I think Furman does the best he can with what I assume was a mandated crossover (I don't think they had as many choices back then, or even if they did, they felt the book needed any bump). The book's cast is split into four different groups, but Furman's story moves nicely from each group and manages to give everyone their own moment.

I know how you feel, it's tough to keep up when life gets busy sometimes. Congrats on the baby! Good luck with everything and come back soon!

This is fun. I saw other pics of these guys and the starbursts on Northstar and Aurora's costumes are reflective which was a nice touch.

I am quite pleased that you are still around and have not foresaken us entirely.
Blessings and Peace, David R.
ps. I love that pic...even the somwot portly Marrina is enchanting and not entirely out of place for a team that is quite diverse in it's membership.

Thanks so much for taking up this thread! I have faith you'll do a great job with it. I'll be happy to post the cover...also, do you have the Alpha Flight Special Limerick was working on before he had to leave?

I may have to take it back up. I want to see this thread finish not only volume 1, but 2, 3, Omega, Chaos War, and the new current series as well.
