Let's just say I only want to pick up the Dan Slott written issues and I don't bother with the other writers contributions to the title. Would it feel self contained or does it necessarily need the other connective tissue of the other writers?
Since I'm a big fan of Dan's writing and I think he's the only writer who should be doing the gig monthly given how much he wanted this (no offense to Guggenheim or Zeb who are great too). Plus it looks like he has the cream of the crop artists with Steve McNiven, Marcos Martin, and John Romita Jr. so I was wondering how it would read if I took this route.

I'm reading all of them, but I do think Slott's issues stand on their own pretty well. There are references to subplots from other arcs, but their done in an old school way that allows you to get what they're talking about.

Indeed and it is nice to see this in the issues...i miss the old classic style.

The Slott stories so far stand alone on their own. I think you should be able to follow them fairly well. It would be like following one of the Spider-Man titles in the 80s or the 90s (and not during the periods when the book was a crossover pretty much every month.)

I've only been buying Slott and Wells and I have had no problem following the stories at all. Can't see any reason why it would be any different with only Slott.

Yeah but what if there's a supporting character that gets development between his arcs, is there like a weird sudden shift in their direction when he writes them?
