52 was after Infinite Crisis right? Didn't Batman retire for a year or something? I didn't follow 52 at all, so I don't know what happened. My questions are:
1. Why did he retire? Was it because of the Omacs he invented?
2. What did he do/where did he go?
3. Did he let Commissioner Gordon know he was going to retire?
4. If Robin and Nightwing were with him, what happened to Gotham without them?
5. When did he come back?
6. What issues of 52 was he in?
7. What is the "Blackouts" he has mentioned in the recent few issues?
8. What about the 3 other fake Batmen? The Bane one, the Police one, and the other one? What are they?
9. In one of the more recent issues of Batman, he met Joe Chill or something. Was it a dream?
10. The most recent issue says that Damian is the son of the devil. Is Batman's son evil/really the son of the devil? Or is it a reference to Ra's Al Ghul as being the "demon"?
11. What was the near death hallucination ritual Batman mentioned? Where was at and why did he do it?
12. Jezebel is his new girlfriend? When was she introduced?
Sorry if it is a lot of questions. Thanks.

1. Why did he retire? Was it because of the Omacs he invented?
He took time off to retrain. He took Dick and Jason with him.
2. What did he do/where did he go?
Back to same teachers that Bruce went to the first time.
3. Did he let Commissioner Gordon know he was going to retire?
Don't want to tell you wrong;
4. If Robin and Nightwing were with him, what happened to Gotham without them?
Well, the Question hired ex detective Renea Montoya to watch a wherehouse. Montoya's exlover donned a costume and became Batwoman.
5. When did he come back?
Week 53 of 52.
6. What issues of 52 was he in?
I can only remember one issue..but I might be wrong.
Or is it a reference to Ra's Al Ghul as being the "demon"?Damian has evil inclinations, or at least goes further than even Jason Todd does fighting.
11. What was the near death hallucination ritual Batman mentioned? Where was at and why did he do it?
12. Jezebel is his new girlfriend? When was she introduced? I really didn't notice her until last month's comic.
Sorry if it is a lot of questions. Thanks.
Sorry I couldn't answer more.

I didn't follow 52 at all Pick up the trades, it's one of DC's best stories in years.
1. Why did he retire? Was it because of the Omacs he invented? He didn't retire, he took a sabbatical. His purpose was to fix whatever was wrong with him that had turned him into the Batdick. And he only invented Brother I. The OMACs were created by the US government when Lex Luthor was president, using Brainiac 13 technology.
2. What did he do/where did he go?Nanda Pardat and other places. Revisit his old teachers.
3. Did he let Commissioner Gordon know he was going to retire? The books don't mention this either way. Take your own personal pick. I'm going with yes.
4. If Robin and Nightwing were with him, what happened to Gotham without them?He appointed the reformed Harvey Dent to watch over his city in his absence. Others like The Question and Batwoman pitched in, but not at Batman's request.
5. When did he come back?52 #51
6. What issues of 52 was he in?
30 (all Batman issue), 47, and 51 (not in costume though)
7. What is the "Blackouts" he has mentioned in the recent few issues? He's cracking up. Because of something that was done to him during isolation experiment from years ago, most likely.
8. What about the 3 other fake Batmen? The Bane one, the Police one, and the other one? What are they? This was explained in some detail in the last couple of issues.
9. In one of the more recent issues of Batman, he met Joe Chill or something. Was it a dream? More like a flashback.
10. The most recent issue says that Damian is the son of the devil. Is Batman's son evil/really the son of the devil? Or is it a reference to Ra's Al Ghul as being the "demon"?I am not psychic and cannot answer question pertaining to stories that have't been published yet.
11. What was the near death hallucination ritual Batman mentioned? Where was at and why did he do it?52 #37. Also explained in detail in various issous of Morrison's run.
12. Jezebel is his new girlfriend? When was she introduced? In Morrison's first arc Batman And Son, second issue.
Sorry if it is a lot of questions. Thanks.

1. Why did he retire?
He didn't retire. He took time of to train himself again.
Was it because of the Omacs he invented?
Sort of. He felt guilty about the Brother Eye/OMAC thing and not trusting his friends.
2. What did he do/where did he go?
He went to re-train himself and start over so he won't be such a loner Bat-dick anymore and come back a friendlier, less paranoid Batman. He retraced the steps he first took as young Bruce Wayne, only this time with Dick and Tim at his side.
3. Did he let Commissioner Gordon know he was going to retire?
Not really, though Gordon wasn't Commish at the time.
4. If Robin and Nightwing were with him, what happened to Gotham without them?
There was a Batwoman, but they pretty much just left the city as it was.
5. When did he come back?
One year later.
6. What issues of 52 was he in?
Uhhh. Someone might have a list around here.
7. What is the "Blackouts" he has mentioned in the recent few issues?
In an old silver age story, Batman took part in a sensory deprivation experiment and hallucinated being stranded on an alien planet and watching Robin die. Morrison took this idea After the experiment, Batman had blackouts and went temporarily insane and quit being Batman for two weeks.
8. What about the 3 other fake Batmen? The Bane one, the Police one, and the other one? What are they?
All three were policemen. They were experiments by Dr. Hurt to create backup Batmen, in case Batman dies. But they all ended up fudged up and sorta evil.
9. In one of the more recent issues of Batman, he met Joe Chill or something. Was it a dream?
The entire issue was a dream. He was dead for four minutes after getting shot in the chest.
10. The most recent issue says that Damian is the son of the devil. Is Batman's son evil/really the son of the devil? Or is it a reference to Ra's Al Ghul as being the "demon"?
It's not literal, but he is an evil, vicious, murderous brat. Tim said the "son of the devil" line because Damian beat the crap out of him the first time they met. Of course, his name is Damian, so it's also a joke to that.
11. What was the near death hallucination ritual Batman mentioned? Where was at and why did he do it?
It was during 52. One of the training he did was to be isolated in a dark cave for days, a Buddhist ritual to understand the experience of death. This was what got him to shed his "Dark Batman" persona and come out as a more enlightened, less asshole-ish Batman.
12. Jezebel is his new girlfriend? When was she introduced?
#656. Second issue of Morrison's run.

To add on to what's been said-
After IC Batman went a one year break to rediscover his roots. That was to take place in 52, but that book's direction changed so instead there was only one book that featured Bruce in Nanda Parbat that was written by Morrison. During that period he left the healed Harvey in charge and at some point Gordon and Bullock returned to the GCPD, and Robin got a new costume when he got back.
The image on the right is the issue of 52 about Bruce, #30

I'm glad that cleared things up for someone. I still have a bunch of questions about unresolved stuff.
Namely, why did Bullock and Gordon return to the GCPD and why did Robin get a new costume?

I don't know about the Bullock and Gordon thing, but the reason Robin got a new costume was to honor Superboy, as was said in Teen Titans, he wanted to honor his fallen comrade to wear "his" colors.

I read that and it really seemed like some hamfisted explanation. I'm not satisfied.

Superboy wore red, black and blue.

Exactly, the "explanation" is weak.

So tell that to Geoff Johns then?

Yes, and Yes, So are you arguing over Blue jeans? if you are then I'll take my leave of this thread.

Whether you think the "explanation is weak" or not isn't my concern, but this is the last time I will explain to you or anything for that matter, what was said in the comic's. The explanation was established in the Teen Titans and 52 #51, whether you disagree about it or not.

No one questioned the events of the comic book or critisized your retelling of them, there's no need to get upset.

Renee Montoya Became Batwoman ??? Haven't heard of that.

Uh...no. See the word 'exlover'? Also, Harvey Dent was left in charge in Batman's absense.

Montoya's ex-lover is Kate Kane; she's the one who became Batwoman.

The only thing I really remember about Batman in 52 is that it set up a new origin story for the Ten-Eyed Man should he ever return. Which he did, and it wasn't as funny as I had hopped
Also, does anyone think Batman could be helped now that all the complexity is comming together by those little caption boxes at the bottem of the panels that reference what issue things were first mentioned in? It not that complicated, and would make sure nobody else gets confused like this...and myself

References would be nice, but it seems that for the most part DC wants each story arc to be as self-contained as possible so that it fits neatly into a TPB.
