Here is the HD trailer for the new film

Not sure if this is enough to get me excited to see the movie or not. I am so used to Rachel Weisz in the role that Maria Bello seem out of place.
The effects look to be okay but nothing amazing and the story and Jet Li character seems cool enough.
What say you?

I say it's a watch-for. Personally, it doesn't seem like it's worth the assloads of theater money they expect you to pay nowadays, but it certainly looks good enough to watch at one point or another.

At the end of Mummy III, johnathan left to Peru and it said that they discovered mummies in peru.
could it be possible that he would one day raise the undead to satisfy his own personal greed?
i immeadiatly thought about this after i saw mummy III today so i was wondering what you would think of this.

Haven' seen it yet, and I want to.
Maybe he'll seem evil but be possessed and really in over his head. It'd be a retread to have him in trouble and asking for help again starting the plot and the mummying, but why not?
Johnathon is the brother, right? It's been a while since I saw 2...

I guess it could happen, but it would be hard to imagine him as a serious villain (well, I can't imagine it).
At best, in the scenario given, he might try that but loose control of them. So kind of incompetent villain (which seems more characterful). But I don't see it being to probable.

I dunno. He's always seemed a bit too bumbling and comedic to work as a villain. Plus he's always been very loyal to his sister.
(Haven't seen Mummy 3 so I have no idea if seeds were sown there to make him a bit edgier or something...)

I doubt there will be any future Mummy movies. This thing has "bomb" written all over it.

Its not really got huge competition so I doubt it will bomb, I heard a lot more buzz for this than a lot of things this year as well. at worst it comes in second with some decent numbers.
I mean if they are doing a 2nd direct to dvd scorpion king movie, they could easyily do another mummy movie after this.

With the hype of The Dark Knight fizzled out I agree that thare isn't a movie out thare currently that could compete with it.
Im not sure it will make huge numbers like the second movie did but Im positive that when it comes to DVD sales it will do good.
I think depending on how things go we may get a Mummy movie that focuses on their son this time.

Doesn't look groundbreaking, but the first two really weren't either. Just an excuse to turn of your brain for two hours. I'll probably go see this when I have nothing better to do.

Dark Knight is going to swallow it whole. Poor Jet Li, he career really hasn't taken off in the West like it should have. His advisors really did not do a good job picking his roles for him.

Saw the trailer when I went to see The Dark Knight (the second time). Looks amazing. Don't think I ever saw the Mummy Returns, but I loved the first one. We finally see Brendan Fraser in a film again and what is it? A reoccurring role :D Or maybe he has something else coming up (not the kids movie) that I don't know about.

Just got back from seeing it and it was pretty solid. These kinds of movies aren't going to win Oscars but it did put some screentime into the relationships between the parents and the son. Those scenes were pretty good, and made it more than your run of the mill FX fest. Plus it had the Abominibal Snowmen, which were awesome. Another movie would have had the Snowman as just an FX prop but here they are at least a small part of the story. Of course there was pretty much non-stop action in it and the action was pretty good. Also Maria Bello was awesome in her role.
This is strictly my opinion but this might be the only film franchise where each entry is better. Didn't like the first one, second was was decently entertaining. I would even be so blasphemous as to say this one was better than Indy 4. Can't be Harrison Ford, but this movie was more consistently good from beginning to end.
Question for anyone who's seen it. This isn't really a spoiler. Does anyone know if the Villain was doing anything special in the final battle? He was in that chamber but I couldn't figure out if there was any special reason why he was there. Maybe I missed something.
Anyway go check it out if you haven't already.
I read the book and it was more of the same. If you liked the first two, you'll probably like this one. As long as you realize it isn't Shakespeare, you should be fine.
I'll probably go see it sometime today.

Wow. This movie was really bad. Like, really, really bad.
I remember seeing the first two and being somewhat delighted. I wasn't blown away or floored, but it was time well spent. Turn off my brain for a while and watch Brendan Fraser act goofy and shoot stuff. I don't know what was missing in the formula this time, maybe Rachel Weisz added more to the movie than I thought, but it didn't click with me.

I'm...confused about that as well. I'm guessing he was going to get more firepower, since at that point the only thing that stood between him and conquering the world was the opposing undead army lead by the general he murdered. I'm guessing. May have to see it again.
But yeah, I think this movie easily trumps the other two. The other two Mummy movies were good and had humor here and there, but this one was good, had humor here and there, and was actually FUN. It was a fun ride. I enjoyed it alot. Having two fine Asian women in it helped, too (oh yes, I am talking about the woman with the scar).
If this movie's a hit, they could easily make more with Rick's son as the new mummy killer. I think the last line of the movie was meant as a joke, but they could build off of it if they could. Rick and Evie could pass the torch to Alex and Lin easily. I'd watch those two fight mummies.

He was pulling the opposing army back underground. You see when Rick shoots the spheres he is using the effect stops.
I would watch another Mummy movie too.

I enjoyed it, and thought this further proved that the Mummy franchise is what Indiana Jones now wishes it could be and is everything that Indy used to be. Just like teh first two, this was mindless fun, it doesn't try to be anything else and it succeeds greatly in being mindless fun with a lot of stupid humor. Nothing is really that implausible and it handles the fantasy elements perfectly. A good movie that is well worth seeing and the best action-adventure/explorer movie to come out this year by a landslide.

It's funny that you mention that about Indy 4 not being that great. The people at work were talking about the movies we seen this summer. No one brought up the Indy movie, until I realized far into our conversation that I saw it

Sooo...he was going inside to get more firepower? Since he went inside to do that instead of doing that on the field.
I would watch another Mummy movie too.
Same. REALLY loved this movie. I liked how it kinda pooked fun at itself when they first showed NuEvie. I forget who said it (herself or one of the people at her book reading) but it was something like "Why its like you're a new person!"

Its weird, seeing Mummy 3 made me wanna see Indy 4 (still haven't seen it yet, or Prince Caspian. :frown: I'm slipping in the movie department! ). Cause Mummy 3 was essentially hero (Rick), love interest (Evie), and their son (Alex) fighting bad guys and supernatural threats, and it was FUN. It sounds like Indy 4 has the exact same ingrediants, though not sure about the execution. But still I want to ride that Mummy 3 "high" so at some point I'll make it a point to see Indy 4.

Apparently he needed the spheres to do the banishing of the enemy undead.

Pretty much what I was getting at. On his own he could have probably taken them, but he probably felt getting more power (the spheres) would have cut that time in half.
Apparently he needed the spheres to do the banishing of the enemy undead.
In the novel Emperor Han had to go to the same temple Zi Juan did to reverse her spell bringing the good undead back to life. That was where the altar he cursed the people who died building the Great Wall was at.

That makes sense...especially since they're undead, he probably couldn't actually harm them in any permanent way, just slow them down for a minute or two. Not sure how I missed that in the movie. :frown:
Also reminds me of how I slagged off doing my old pasttime: reading movie novelizations! Then again, I tend to get them then forget them. Still haven't read my novelizations for Daredevil and Spider-Man 2, and I'm halfway done with Blade: Trinity (the novelization is wwwaaayyy better).

Liked it but I just could not expect Maria Bello as Evie and it was confusing and rushed at times.

The movie did very well at the box office only bearly being beaten by The Dark Knight. Not bad considering the buzz around Dark Knight.

I saw this movie sunday and I didnt like it at all. I thought it was somewhat corny, and at times the acting was bad, but thats probably because the writing wasnt very good.
I loved the first two Mummy movies. Maybe it was the loss of Stephen Sommers, Arnold Vosloo, Oded Fehr, and Rachel Weisz that made this movie unenjoyable for me. I just think it was totally cliche' and didnt have the substance both of the previous movies had.
I did enjoy Luke Ford's character though. I liked seeing the book-worm Alex O'Connell from Mummy Returns grow up to become a Gung-Ho Adventurer like Rick.
