My computer got very sick yesterday. Much fustrations and losing of data.
I don't think I like McAfee. got the new computer for christmas.
Download the McAfee comcast offers for all it's users.
it's been fine until now.
first problem I noticed. - bad email from bank (at least they said it was the bank, it was a phising scam)
Right after that McAfee turned off uh ho.
I noticed Windows downloaded an update.
I reset my computer so the update would load.
then lots of nothing.
I could boot to the startup options but not past that. Not even in safe mode.
I tried a system restore to last weekend. No good, lots of nothing
Then I tried to fix the boot sequence kind of stuff.
got myself a nice invalid boot record, unrecoverable error message.
argh!!!!!!!!!!!!
odd however I was able to backup the data from the HP system recovery. So even though my doc backups were only a few days old I was able to back them up before reimaging.
However I did not backup my pictures and video files.
I'm not missing anything irreplacable, just annoying.

Let me guess: You're running WinXP and just installed Service Pack 3 on an HP system that has an AMD processor, rather than an Intel chip...?
The different architectures require one or two different components and MS and the affected vendors are publicly bitchslapping each other over whose responsibility it is to make sure that users download the correct update image.
More info and a workaround, here:

Ok got all my doc's back and most of my programs.
Found a good batch of the images I put up on some sites that I could download.
Now I have a new problem, Roxio label creator is my label/cover creator of chioce for my dvd projects. I think it's just because it's so easy to use.
I'm stuck. Roxio works fine, except it won't print!
No errors, it doesn't go into not responding, it just stops when I try to print from it.
Almost nothing loaded on this computer yet, but something is keeping it from talking to the printer.
I never get the pop up box with the printer information now.
Of course it was working fine before I reimaged. just not now.
and last night Roxio's support site was down. Now I have to wait until after work to get ahold of them and see what they think the problem is.
So any suggestions for my problem or a good reliable DVD case making software would be nice.
On the plus side I also have Nero installed and I can use their lable creator, it's just a little more complex than I like.

Can you print anything else? That is, are you sure that it's Roxio, and not the printer/spooler? (Some people have reported printer problems with the upgrade.)
If it's just Roxio's software, I'd go to their website and see if they are reporting others having problems or offering patches or workarounds foe the problem.
If it's a general printer fault, the first thing I'd do is, again, check the manufacturer's site and make sure that you had the latest drivers. If everything is up to date, and you still have the problem, some folks have reported:

Unfortunately, I downloaded & installed SP3, & now I can't get my
printer to work.
When I attempt to print or add a printer, I get the error message
"The print spooler service is not running"
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
I subsequently uninstalled SP3, but I still am left with no installed
printer, & the same error message preventing me from installing a
printer.
I had the same problem with my printer failing to work after SP3 ..
What I believe the update did was to stop the spooler service from running, at
Start-up, here is the solution I found, first I went to Administrative Tools in control,
Panel, then Computer Management, then under Services I looked for print spooler
Now when I double clicked print spooler I had 3 options I set the print spooler to
Automatic then clicked apply. Closed down and rebooted the computer. And my printer was working again …
Apart from the printer hic-up everything is working fine..
Dunno if this helps you any; I'm not normally a Windows user and this was what I found in a quick search.

The printers are fine, I can print from Office just fine.
I'm sure it's roxio. I've downloaded the most current from their site and posted this there to see what they have to say.
Meanwhile I wait.
I hate waiting.

Only if you're feelin' funky... in an early '90s kinda way.

Even though he has nothing to do with it....blame Bill Gates. It really does make everything feel better.
"Why did I fail my exam?" - because of Bill Gates
"Why did I get fired?" - because of Bill Gates
"Why did that guy just touch me in my bathing suit area?" - because of Bill Gates

Can I set fire to Bill Gates?
Nero works wonderfully, scan, inputs, prints.
Roxio is sick little puppy and their help desk all "clean install" this, reinstall that. Like that wasn't the first thing I tried.
And the reinstall last night took 2 hours, Roxio takes forever to install, but this is first time it's taken over an hour.
Now I know there had to be a problem with the install.
But the only thing that doesn't work on it is printing.
I tried printing from the label creator and the fast creator.
I think they are two different parts of Roxio.
Niether work.
Instead of loading the screen that gives me the printer choices, I just get a few seconds of swirly and then nothing.
I may just take a break from Roxio and work on getting my covers rescanned that I need for the dvd project and just work off Nero for awhile.
Still looking for dvd cover art program suggestions.
Maybe I'll play around with MS Publishers for awhile I've got loaded now.
I remeber it being clunky though.

Why do people still insist on using this Windows garbage?

Can you save the covers as PDFs, then print them from Acrobat (or whatever PDF writer/reader you use)?
I've often found that things that won't print normally will often succumb to this workaround. It's one more step, but...

That's what I'm doing now. A little more work, but easier to make a backup of my covers when I'm done.
