I got four stitches because I cut my self with my scissors at work. Fun fun. The treatment room looked like the scene from a splatter movie. aparently work did too. Lines got shut down, bleach was used, raw matterials were rejected. And here I thought I did my best to keep it from getting everywhere.

Anyone else have any work related injuries they would like to share? Also isn't there a law against having hourly employees cleaning up bodily fluids?

Shit, man. Hope you didn't damage any tendons or anything (I'm guessing it was your hand?).

I dunno about the legal side of things. Hell, I once cleaned up a blood spill when I was a volunteer at a school. Luckily I'd been trained elsewhere about how to safely do so.

Damn, I hope everything is alright. Hope you have a speedy recovery.

Tip of the finger so ni tendons to speak of. I think. still it looked pretty gruesome. As for the high schooler cleaning them up blood that seems fishy to me.

Ah. You should be right then. I once did the same thing, and I don't even have a scar from it.

Umm...what?

Technically blood is considered a biohazard, but who is really going to enforce that.

One time, at work, I cut my finger opening a can of cheese. Got 7 stitches. Still see the scar 18 years later.

Darnit, Saucey! How many times do you have to be told not to run with scissors!

Seriously, I hope you heal up quickly. Have a finger out of commission and bandaged up always interferes more in your life than you think it will.

CHEESE?

I get that reaction every time.

I was working in a movie theater and somebody was opening a can of that cheese for the nachos. The can opener did not open it all the way and there was little piece of tin holding it on. He asked me to hold the can while he pulled the lid free. When he finally got the lid free, he cut my finger with the sharp edge of the lid. You could actually see bone! Once they got the anasthetic (sp?) in and I couldn't feel it, it was cool seeing the inside of your finger.

I understand about those industrial-sized cans - they're dangerous! I've been lucky to never have cut myself on one in my various restaurant jobs.

My only "cut my finger and still have the scar story" involves a folding knife, a wet t-shirt contest, and entirely too much alcohol.

You're a braver man than me. I couldn't even hack watching my knee get stitched up when I cut it years ago.

I worked at McDonalds years ago...I burned my hand on the grill pretty bad. I was in some hellish pain and some guy was like "put mustard on it , it'll take the swelling out !"

Now part me admits I should have called it a day and quit work ...and get my hand looked at . But I am someone who has a whole "No Guts , No Glory !" type attitude. So I did that..I put mustard on my burned , swelling hand and ...and then took medical tape they had in the office and wrapped it.

Yes it was freakin painful. I managed to work the rest of the day and when I got home I checked my hand. The burn and swelling actually went down ! So who knew that mustard was a good thing to put on that ? I was at work the next day and showed him my arm and he told me he had heard his grandfather tell him that would work .

A "mustard plaster" was indeed an old remedy that worked. In fiction, you read about it being used to foment leg injuries on horses, among other things. I'd have to do some research to explain the chemistry behind it, but yeah... legit remedy.

Yeah, they should have followed the bloodbourne pathogens rules, if they know what they're doing.

Having worked as a lifeguard in the past, as well as training as a CNA, blood at the workplace is serious business.

In any event, I hope no permanent harm was done.

Honestly, PinkBatMaxine and I could relate endless biohazard stories we face on a daily basis....

I also had a fast food injury.

When I worked at Burger King in college, I sliced the back of my thumb on a sharp piece of one of the machines.

Bleed like hell. Another employee helped me bandage it up and the manager on duty wanted me to keep ringing up customers after. Even though it kept bleeding through the bandage.

Went to student health the next day. If I'd come in right away, they would have given me six stitches but it was too late for late. So I have a scar on the back of my right thumb.

And, yeah, I quit the job soon after.

When I got my cut I went right to the hospital...but then again, I was almost passing out. It didn't feel like I lost that much blood but I was feeling really dizzy.

When I worked at steak n shake, the soup came in bags... no seriously it did. My finger is fine, although it looks pretty disgusting to me. The doctor looked at it and said it's fine. the stitches are scheduled to come out next Tuesday. The scary thing is I really did do it with scissors. They were upside down and open in my pants pocket when I reached for them my middle finger on my left hand slid right down the blade. I'm left handed damnit. I can barely right my name at the moment. Oh well live and learn.
