Superman has a sidekick - Jimmy Olsen. Besides , superman has supergirl , superdog and all his assorted super animals to aid him out.

I think Jimmy Olsen is all the sidekick Superman really needs. Considering Supergirl, and Krypto are there when needed.

I would rather he not exactly have a sidekick, I like the idea of him being a father but I would rather not have him go into battle with a child at his side.
Something like the Superman of America fits him more, a team under his patronige that holds down Metropolis while he helps people elsewhere.
I would rather have Chris having secret adventures then at his father's side myself.

I think Chris Kent is going to fill that position. Supergirl shouldn't, but Clark should THINK she should.

Fixed. And Kon wasn't a sidekick. They rarely worked together.

I think Steel is kind of like a side kick.

...Kon, until
the Siegel legal team decided he had to dieFixed...
That's an inexcusable cheap shot. The Siegel family did absolutely nothing except pursue their legitimate legal rights in a character that Jerry Siegel created. They certainly didn't mandate any editorial decision of any kind. And if Warner or DC Comics decided it was preferable not to publish any version of that character rather than to share the rights in him, they're the ones cutting off their nose to spite their face.

An important thing about Superman is that he really doesn't need help--at least in the traditional "help me fight" terms. The rare times he does, there's Supergirl, or occasionally Wonder Woman. And perhaps we can even count Batman, via Batman's frequent use of technological aids.
What Superman DOES need are occasional motivators. Jimmy is a motivator. Lois is a motivator. Freakin' Bibbo is even one.
I suppose he also needs an extra brain at times. The worse written comics always insist he's got some kind of super-accelerated brain, but the better ones kind of ignore that. In those stories, someone else may see something he doesn't. Very often its Batman, but it could be almost anyone else in his cast. Occasionally, when he's played gray instead of black, it might even be Luthor.

Superman's list of sidekicks consists of every super-hero created after him.
Bar none.

He did have a sidekick at one time, and his name was Skyboy.

I love the unbelievable speech patterns of people in old comics. Its kind of like they are reading copy for an Olde-Timey Radio ad.
"Look! There go Batman and Robin -- And Superman, with his new Junior Partner Skyboy!"
Face it, even back THEN nobody on Earth (well, OUR Earth) really talked like that. It makes for some amusing reading.

I have never felt that Superman needed a sidekick as much as he needed an actual friend to relate to as a guy. And not so much relate to in the sense that said guy could pummel and pillage an entire planet the way Supes could if he wanted to. Rather, just having a guy his age who was an actual friend and confidant.
Lois, Jimmy, Krypto, Supergirl, Batman, Martian Manhunter etc... they just don't cut it when it comes to what I'm talking about.
I'm talking about a friend who is Clark's buddy he can go eat wings with, shoot some hoops, sit indian style on the floor with, drink margaritas and chit chat with.
Wait...scratch that last one!

Does Superman even really need a sidekick? Sidekicks are really just younger versions of the hero learning how to do the save-the-day thing. Anyone who could learn to do what Superman does, how he does it, already knows how.

It's a pity that Kon-El/Connor still wasn't Superman' sidekick. Connor could have made a great sidekick for Supes.

Yesh...Jimmy is Supermans sidekick numero uno.
I need a Jimmy Olsen book with Jimmy and Krypto traipsing around the Superman universe.

You're right. Clark Kent needs more a buddy like this, instead of Superman getting a sidekick.
