One problem I have always had with Superhero Comics is that things don't change, not to the heroes themselves, but to the world surounding them.

Our culture and society would be incredablly different if we had godlike being fighting for our fate surounding us.

The reason this doens't happen is of course we need to be able to relate to the characters in the comic books, so they can't change the world to much.


Another related problem is the timeline, it simply doesn't fit into ours forcing us into a sliding timescale so Supman isn't 90 years old.

I had an idea today to resolve both of these problems.

In the DCU it is 1955, but not a 1955 like our's was, it is a 1955 like our 2008.

The existance of superheroes has lead to political and technological chcnage to go at warp speed, with Superheroes making some things better and some worse.

It would not be exactly like our universe either.

So what do you think of this idea?

I think it would make a fascinating imprint title or elseworlds gn, but it's too severe a change for the main universe. That's always been the defining difference between DC and Marvel for me. Marvel is all about change. DC makes changes, but the bulk of the classic heroes remain relatively familiar and accessible.
