Here's RITA's.

It's a basic off-topic discussion thread. It is named in honor of one of our favorite posters, Awesome Rita!

Think about it as her bar.

Same rules as the regular board apply, except, well, the off-topic part.

In addition, if you really must know stuff like "what is the biggest shit you've taken?" or "why is it hard for ladies to have an orgasim?," then you can ask that stuff here.

Also, as I think has been born out a few times now, please try not to use this thread to discuss other threads/posts on the Community Forum (or any other forum, really). Just post in those other threads (and, if it is off-topic for that thread, then just don't post it period - or try a PM!).

Otherwise, enjoy!

-Brian

Cue end theme (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WFf4bDKXlMU), but this time performed by a personal favorite jazz pianist - Chick Corea.

Got to jam with him my sophmore year of college. Still geeking out to this day.

Bill Bixby - r.i.p.

If you've seen the most recent trailer, they use the first few notes in the beginning of it, and then again at the end of the trailer, but more obviously. I always loved that theme.

It was as unique as Superman's theme music. I'm glad they're using it.

It's very emotionally evocative, and totally sad. Which is perfect for The Hulk.

After every episode, it was like, "poor guy, off to hide in another town and hope no one makes me angry."

I think that's what was REALLY lacking with Ang Lee's Hulk. I never really felt sorry for Banner. He came across as kind of a prick.

What was missing was he did not smash the ground and make the policeymen fall down, and he did not smash the transamerica building.

Hmmmm. I probably need to go back and look at it from a different point of view. I like Ang Lee's Hulk, except for the final battle, but one of my favorite moments is Nick Nolte's monologue in between those incinerators (or whatever they are) where he and Bruce are chained up. Very Shakespearian, in my opinion.

Dr. Banner/The Hulk truly are tragic figures. Misery loves it some company.

Opposing team carries the day for Oregon player

Sara Tucholsky, a softball player at Western Oregon, almost saw her first home run in high school or college be negated when she collapsed because of a knee injury as she rounded first base in a game against Central Washington recently.

If her teammates lent a helping hand, she would be called out.

If the coach put in a pinch runner, she would get a single.

So, asked opposing first baseman Mallory Holtman, what if the other team helped Sara around the bases?

There’s no rule against that, so Holtman and shortstop Liz Wallace put their arms under Tucholsky’s legs and carried her around the bases for her home run, gently lowering her so she could touch each base with her uninjured left foot.

Ironically it was Tucholsky’s three-run homer that provided the winning runs in a 4-2 game that ended Central Washington’s chances to advance in the playoffs.

“In the end, it is not about winning and losing so much,” Holtman said. “It was about this girl. She hit it over the fence and was in pain, and she deserved a home run.

“We started laughing when we touched second base. I said, ‘I wonder what this must look like to other people.’ ”

Wallace said: “We didn’t know that she was a senior or that this was her first home run. We just wanted to help her.”

Agreed. I remember as a kid having the refrain "it doesn't matter if you win or lose, it's how you play the game" repeated to me from my coaches and that has always stuck with me. Sure, I always wanted to win and always tried to, but if I gave everything I had out on the field, while still playing fairly, I'd hold my head up. I still despise cheaters and those that have a 'win at any cost' attitude.

Old fashion I guess.

I grew up with that as well. In fact, I remember my parents were heavily into Little League administration. But sometime around the late '60s they were pushed away, repulsed by the fact that most of the newer people involved seemed to think they were involved in Major League Baseball or something. Harsh ass coaches, repeals of the "everyone must play" rules, freakin' DRAFTS! They hated the whole concept. Little League is for kids to have fun, not as a farm system for heavy competition ball.

It breaks my heart to see parents tell their kids "either the player passes or the ball passes, but not both" in soccer and encouraging them to blatantly kick at the shins.

Gratz on the EMP! Actually Kid Decorum crossed 32 last night in the middle of a Katie Hannon TF, and I very much contemplated ducking out to go get Unstoppable, because those last two Mary's were kicking our butts.

Verdict is still out for me on the new curve. It almost feels TOO fast to me. And the underlying thought remains that the new curve had more to do with getting us to 50 faster, making us make more alts and then buy more slots when those get up there than it did making us happy (although it was probably a bit of both).

Yeah. I've been in a couple of Katie runs where we started to bleed TF members until we were completely unable to damage her. It was not pretty.

My neighbors had a theft last night. Around 4am Collin woke me up because he heard someone walking around our nearest neighbor's place. While I held the phone he shone the flashlight but didn't see anyone. An hour ago the neighbors walked out and found paperwork and clothing in the bushes. We checked the address and walked down to the place. When we knocked and asked they said yes, some stuff had been taken from their front porch. We just finished talking with the sheriff, the guess is that it was a drunk walking up the road after the bar closed. Going to be a couple of restless nights again.

It really is unsettling when we couple it with the drunk that came up into our screened porch a few months ago. With summer coming up they are saying such activities will become more common. Definitely time for us to put up another sensor light- we've been trying to convince the ladies next door to do the same, even offered to do it for them, maybe now they will.

It's great that they play the game with sportsmanship.

It breaks my heart to see parents tell their kids "either the player passes or the ball passes, but not both" in soccer and encouraging them to blatantly kick at the shins.

When Reilly was smaller, he was at a kid's fifth birthday party at the local indoor soccer place. They were having a friendly game, and one of the parents was there at the front, yelling at his kid, "Come on! Get in there!" etc.

I felt like smacking him upside the head. "They're five-year-olds, you dumb shit!"

It's parents like that who ruin it for everyone, including their own kids.

Even the internet isn't opposed to getting a facelift. (http://sixthcolumn.typepad.com/duckwalls/2008/04/the-grid-could.html)

Boyfriend has his iPod in one of those speaker dock thingies and one of his Megadeath albums came on. I've heard Megadeath songs before as singles on the radio and on TV but listening to an albums' worth. It was not unlike listening to a jazz fusion album or just jazz guys riffing off each other.

Wow.

Most metal is much more sophisticated than what singles and radio portray it as. A good portion of it is exactly what singles and radio portray it as.

He was born in Big Beaver by the borderline
He started playing hockey by the time he was nine
His dad took the hose and froze the back yard
And Little Buddy dreamed he was Rocket Richard
He grew up big and he grew up tough
He saw himself scoring for the Wings or Canucks
But he wasn't that good with a puck

Buddy's real talent was beating people up
His heart wasn't in it but the crowd ate it up
Through Pee-wees and Juniors, Midgets and Mites
He must have racked up more than six hundred fights
A scout from the flames came down from Saskatoon
Said, "There's always room on our team for a goon
Son, we've always got room for a goon"

There were Swedes to the left of him
Russians to the right
A Czech at the blue line looking for a fight
Brains over brawn - that might work for you
But what's a Canadian farm boy to do
What else can a farm boy from Canada to do
But what's a Canadian farm boy to do
What else can a farm boy from Canada to do

Hit somebody! was what the crowd roared
When Buddy the goon came over the boards
"Coach," he'd say, "I wanna score goals"
The coach said, "Buddy, remember your role
The fast guys get paid, they shoot, they score
Protect them, Buddy, that's what you're here for

Protection is what you're here for
Protection - it's the stars that score
Protection - kick somebody's ass
Protection - don't put the biscuit in the basket just
Hit somebody! it rang in his ears
Blood on the ice ran down through the years
The king of the goons with a box for a throne
A thousand stitches and broken bones
He never lost a fight on his icy patrol
But deep inside, Buddy only dreamed of a goal
He just wanted one damn goal

There were Swedes at the the blue line
Finns at the red
A Russian with a stick heading straight for his head
Brains over brawn - that might work for you
But what's a Canadian farm boy to do
What else can a farm boy from Canada to do
But what's a Canadian farm boy to do
What else can a farm boy from Canada to do

In his final season, on his final night
Buddy and a Finn goon were pegged for a fight
Thirty seconds left, the puck took a roll
And suddenly Buddy had a shot on goal

The goalie committed, Buddy picked his spot
Twenty years of waiting went into that shot
The fans jumped up, the Finn jumped too
And coldcocked Buddy on his follow through
The big man crumbled but he felt all right
'Cause the last thing he saw
was the flashing red light
He saw that heavenly light

There were Swedes to the left of him
Russians to the right
A Czech at the blue line looking for a fight
Take care of your teeth - that might work for you
But what's a Canadian farm boy to do
What else can a farm boy from Canada to do
But what's a Canadian farm boy to do
What else can a farm boy from Canada to do

Werewolves of London. To the world: Never deny the greatness of that song.

If you don't mind (no, not Warren Zevon. Apologies if I'm breaking tradition):

The devil and me had a falling out.
Violation of contract beyond a shadow of a doubt.
Wherever he go, whomever he meet.
He got to cross my house on the other side of the street.
And you know that’s the truth. Now here’s the part that the devil sings while he’s
hanging his head in a hard rain:
Where I’m headed, I don’t know.
Down this path, we all go.
Grace and luck, blood from stone.
Got nowhere to call my home.
