That was my last attempt to see her. We had lunch on campus. I wasn't convinced it went that well.
But I really enjoyed seeing her tonight.
Perhaps it's relevant to mention I'd had a lot of whisky though.
Then drink a bunch more whiskey, and ask her to lunch again.
If she says yes, the first lunch went well. If she says no, lay off the whiskey a bit.

Were gonna find out what it is all about.
After midnight, were gonna let it all hang down.
After midnight, were gonna shake your tambourine.
After midnight, its all gonna be peaches and cream.

If that isn't a euphemism it damn well deserves to be. Sweet Lucy was a dancer
But none of us would chance her
Because she was a Samurai
She made electric shadows
Beyond our fingertips
And none of us could reach that high
She came on like a teaser
I had to touch and please her
Enjoy a little paradise
The log was in my pocket
When Lucy met the Rockett
And she never knew the reason why
I can't deny it
With that smile on her face
It's not the kill
It's the thrill of the chase
Feel it coming
It's knocking at the door
You know it's no good running
It's not against the law
The point of no return
And now you know the score
And now you're learning
What's knockin' at your back door
Sweet Nancy was so fancy
To get into her pantry
Had to be the aristocracy
The members that she toyed with
At her city club
Were something in diplomacy
So we put her on the hit list
Of a common cunning linguist
A master of many tongues
And now she eases gently
From her Austin to her Bentley
Suddenly she feels so young

Cell block five, how I hate Bromide
With your coffee in the morning makes you so sterile
The corner gang never made a man of me boy
You know the walls are tall and the inmates scheme
There's no one here that's more than seventeen
Bet your life there's a riot tonight in the messhall, listen
A letter from your home town makes you sad
You read it when the wardens had a second laugh
He said sentimental rubbish ain't got no place in here boy
See the years roll on by
Such a senseless waste of time
What a way to reform
Call out your number, who's a nonconformer
Not me baby, oh yeah
Shakey Brown didn't hang around
When a Molotow didn't do it's stuff
You went back in there and said it with a sawed-off shotgun
You know Poker Sam couldn't lose a hand
If he did you were hit by a downtown tram
Or crushed in the path of a moving elevator, elevator
See the years roll on by
Such a senseless waste of time
What a way to reform
Call out your number, who's a nonconformer
Not me baby, oh yeah
When I get out, I'll get straight
If this old world gives me half a break
But, if you see me in the corner with a chip on my shoulder
Don't blame me, don't blame me baby, no, no
Got to make a break for the county line

The overhead view is of me in a maze
And you see what I'm hunting a few steps away
But I take a wrong turn and I'm on the wrong path
And the people all watching enjoy a good laugh
Embarrassed with failure, I try to reverse
The course that my tread had already traversed
So doing the trauma engulfing my dream
Invaded through what was an unguarded seam
The torrent of helplessness swept me away
To the cavern of shame and the hall of dismay
Inside me a voice was repeating this phrase:
"You've lost it, you'll never get out of this maze"
You'll never get out of this maze
You'll never get out of this maze
You'll never get out of this maze
You'll never get out of this maze

There's no time for us,
There's no place for us,
What is this thing that builds our dreams, yet slips away from us
Who wants to live forever,
Who wants to live forever?
There's no chance for us,
It's all decided for us,
This world has only one sweet moment set aside for us
Who wants to live forever,
Who dares to love forever,
Who dare who dare,
Who wants to live forever,
When love must die
So touch my tears with your lips,
Touch my world with your fingertips,
And we can have forever,
And we can have forever,
Forever is our today,
Who wants to live forever,
Who wants to live forever,
Forever is our today,
Who waits forever anyway?

I just couldn't cry
No matter how hard I try
I knew the love we shared was dead
Until she gave me a letter
With some words she wrote down
And I swear this is what she said
She said...
Love of my life our first night together
We sat in the rain and talked forever
Love of my life your carefree way
Showed me the potential of each and
every day
But love of my life
When you told me today
That my place was gone
In your carefree way
I realized...
She said...
She said love of my life now I finally see
A carefree way wasn't meant for me
The pain I feel you just can't understand
You'd think it as fire, pull away your hand
But love of my life
When you told me today
That my place was gone in your carefree
way
I realized...
You know she realized she must learn for
once on her own not to let her days burn
Because she's alone
She needed to learn for once on her own
not to let her days burn
Because she's alone
She needed to learn for once on her own
not to let her days burn
Because she's alone
She said...
Love of my life your arms were never shy
To hold me tight when I needed to cry
Love of my life you made me believe
And for that I do love you but I know I
must leave
Because love of my life
When you told me today
That my place was gone
In your carefree way
I realized...
Oh yes she realized, and for once so did I
Because it occurred to me the love of my
life was she
And then and only then I started to cry

Yep, just fine. You can buy more wheel shells if you'd like, also. They're like $10 a pop.
If you're playing competitively, the classic or Gamecube controller works better. But, for the purposes of fun, I'd say the wheel is superior.

I don't know why but I thought of Stonegold when I got this emailed to me.
Federal Rebate
The federal government is sending each and every one of us a $600 rebate.
If we spend that money at Wal-Mart, the money will go to China.
If we spend it on gasoline it will go to the Arabs.
If we purchase a computer it will go to India.
If we purchase fruit and vegetables it will go to Mexico, Honduras, and Guatemala.
If we purchase a good car it will go to Japan.
If we purchase useless crap it will go to Taiwan and none of it will help the American economy.
The only way to keep that money here at home is to buy guns, prostitutes, and beer, since these are the only products still produced in the US.
Thank you for your help.

Typo, if you like Worms, I think you'll like this. (http://www.2dboy.com/games.php) It's coming to WiiWare(a system that lets you download games to the Wii) next Monday. I think it'll be only $10, or $15 at the absolute most.

I submit that the first party titles on the Wii thus far, which is what has dominated Nintendo's lineup on all their past consoles, is superior to the Gamecube's 1st-party lineup.
And as far as the gimmick goes, some have made very, very good use of it. Zack and Wiki(a third party game, no less), for example(another must-have for you, Typo. Only $20, too).
Also, did you know that buying a racing wheel for games usually costs $50 or more? A light gun $30 or more? The Wii "gimmick" can emulate both of these, and except for optional shells(one of which includes a game), the darn thing comes with the system.
I'd say it's brilliant for saving consumers money alone.

Excite Truck is a solid racer for the Wii.
There are more shooters in the Wii pipeline. And there's already "Umbrella Chronicles" out for the Wii also if you like light-gun shooters. Resident Evil 4, while not first-person, is also awesome on the Wii.
And every console has slobbering fanatic dumb$%^&s. There are no exceptions to this.
Look, I'm not saying Wii is the best. I've already stated the 360 is my favorite, and that I own all three(and a PSP and DS also). But there are some quality games out for the Wii. I understand if it isn't your cup of tea, though. I for one play far more PS2 games on my PS3 than I do recent titles.

What are you playing currently?
Ridge Racer, the two Tomb Raider games from last year, Burnout Revenge, and Feeding Frenzy.
Feeding Frenzy is one of those really simple concept games that is almost infinitely replayable. You start as a small fish. You eat any fish that's small than you, and eventually grow until you can eat bigger fish. There are a few power ups, but that's basically it.
The play balance is strange. On the untimed version, it gradually escalates, but add the timer and the first level is by far the most difficult, with subsequent levels getting easier as you build up time. Most of the time I have 15 minutes accumulated to finish the final screen.

Agreed. I'm hardly a gamer, but I do enjoy playing the less time consuming games like Mario Kart, puzzle games and the wii sports game. With the Wii Nintendo has really tapped into an undeserved market of people who are a bit overwhelmed by the type of games that the PS3 and XBox 360 were designed for, but want something that's simplified and fun.
Is it a gimmick? I guess that's all to do with the eye of the beholder, but I think it's brilliant. And hey, as long as they keep doing what they do well, then it's going to continue to be an immensely profitable system.

Yep. After reading the reviews for Paradise, I decided it wasn't for me. The two Tomb Raider games are Legends and Anniversary. Anniversary is a remake of the original with graphics updated, new puzzles added, and the expanded roster of moves implemented.
I tend to wait a few months before getting a game. Early adopters get them and trade them in, and I get a big discount. Game stores also routinely give a better warranty on used games than on new ones.
One thing I've noticed with used games is that gamers who buy and trade tend to be much more careful with their games than people who rent games or DVDs. The discs are routinely in excellent condition compared to the badly scratched ones that show up in rental outlets.

"The itis is a Caribbean term in Black American Vernacular English to describe a condition of sleepiness associated with eating meats and sauces, a real human phenomena known as food coma. The term 'itis' or 'The itis' actually derives from its racial connotation 'niggeritis' with the racist word later being dropped as usage of the term came to the U.S.[citation needed] This word derives from slave owners trying to describe why slaves did not want to work after eating."
Before I looked it up, I thought it was a made-up word and first heard about it on The Boondocks cartoon from the episode, The Itis (http://www.answers.com/topic/the-itis-the-boondocks?cat=entertainment). This is the first half of the episode (http://youtube.com/watch?v=ibZV3KUUnLo), which explains what the itis is.

I tried out the demo of Burnout Paradise on the 360, it wasn't for me either. There was a crazy freestyle mode where you had to find jumps and then try to pop wheelie and such, it didn't really make any sense to me. The races were fun because you could find any route to the end of the race you wanted to, instead of following a specific path.
I will have to go back and figure out which TR I was playing, I know the analog stick on the PSP made shooting and some of the jumping really difficult. I probably would have liked it more if it was on 360 or PS2.
My biggest problem is playing more action oriented games on my handhelds before I go to sleep, I get kind of jacked up and cannot sleep. The more puzzle oriented games(Puzzle Quest, Crush, Poker, etc) are better for me.

It was full of sensual detail sounds and physical sensations and metaphysical one s too. Conscious brains have their limitations.

The article I read mentioned that Stewart and the original UK show and I thought to myself that it must have tanked because I've never heard a thing about it. Let's hope it has a better second life. I wonder if they are going to Americanize Rufus like they've done with most of the British tv actor imports. I want him to keep his accent! But the guy does awesome accent/dialect work. He put on a great Czech accent for "Rock 'n Roll."
Oh, I was going to PM you soon about the workout. It's going well, and I've noticed some toning in my arms and a little in my legs (legs had a head start from my on-going cardio). However, I'm off schedule now because I had a Tetanus shot last Thursday and my arm was wicked sore for about 5 days. I need to get back on schedule.
Also, I'm very sorry to hear about the job. I guess the best thing to do is choose to be Zen about it and decide it wasn't meant to be. Good luck with this new prospective job - maybe this is the one that's meant to be.

Believing that the universe may contain alien life does not contradict a faith in God, the Vatican's chief astronomer said in an interview published Tuesday.
The Rev. Jose Gabriel Funes, the Jesuit director of the Vatican Observatory, was quoted as saying the vastness of the universe means it is possible there could be other forms of life outside Earth, even intelligent ones.
"How can we rule out that life may have developed elsewhere?" Funes said. "Just as we consider earthly creatures as 'a brother,' and 'sister,' why should we not talk about an 'extraterrestrial brother'? It would still be part of creation."
In the interview by the Vatican newspaper L'Osservatore Romano, Funes said that such a notion "doesn't contradict our faith" because aliens would still be God's creatures. Ruling out the existence of aliens would be like "putting limits" on God's creative freedom, he said.
The interview, headlined "The extraterrestrial is my brother," covered a variety of topics including the relationship between the Roman Catholic Church and science, and the theological implications of the existence of alien life.
Funes said science, especially astronomy, does not contradict religion, touching on a theme of Pope Benedict XVI, who has made exploring the relationship between faith and reason a key aspect of his papacy.
The Bible "is not a science book," Funes said, adding that he believes the Big Bang theory is the most "reasonable" explanation for the creation of the universe. The theory says the universe began billions of years ago in the explosion of a single, super-dense point that contained all matter.
But he said he continues to believe that "God is the creator of the universe and that we are not the result of chance."
Funes urged the church and the scientific community to leave behind divisions caused by Galileo's persecution 400 years ago, saying the incident has "caused wounds."
In 1633 the astronomer was tried as a heretic and forced to recant his theory that the Earth revolved around the sun. Church teaching at the time placed Earth at the center of the universe.
"The church has somehow recognized its mistakes," he said. "Maybe it could have done it better, but now it's time to heal those wounds and this can be done through calm dialogue and collaboration."
Pope John Paul declared in 1992 that the ruling against Galileo was an error resulting from "tragic mutual incomprehension."
The Vatican Observatory has been at the forefront of efforts to bridge the gap between religion and science. Its scientist-clerics have generated top-notch research and its meteorite collection is considered one of the world's best.
The observatory, founded by Pope Leo XIII in 1891, is based in Castel Gandolfo, a lakeside town in the hills outside Rome where the pope has a summer residence. It also conducts research at an observatory at the University of Arizona, in Tucson.

Done gone there to check out the latest episodes of House and The Office. I almost never watch TV live anymore.
I can't watch House at home because Em feels an irresistible urge to MST3K it, the medicine is so bad. She says she quit her residency to go into research and she's a better diagnostician than House, who ranges from barely competent to blatant and frequent malpractice.

Yep. I've said, "Damn, he's such an ass" and "I feel sorry for him" about House (and sometimes other characters) while watching the same episode. Also, "He's just selfish and doesn't care" and "He only made them think he doesn't care." The show, it plays with my emotions.
Also, after having fallen in love with Black Adder when I was younger, I find it hard to resist anything having to do with Hugh Laurie. Rowan Atkinson has let me down though, which is a damn shame because he can be awesome.

I've never seen Black Adder, but I do love me some Mr. Bean, the original shorts, not the movies.
Hulu has the original Hulk series. The pilot actually isn't terrible, with the characters doing a good number of smart things, and the explanation being better than most comic related properties (specific genetic mutation + gamma radiation + adrenaline = hulk out). It became Shane meets The Fugitive pretty quickly afterwards.

I've like a few of the Mr. Bean bits I've seen, but I much prefer Atkinson on Black Adder. In fact, here's a clip of Hugh Laurie on The Actor's Studio setting up a clip of Black Adder (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gv0Qf8cLhj0).

Y'know just another day at the office.
There are a few Wodehouse samplers out there that contain short stories from a few of his most popular creations - Jeeves & Wooster, Blandings Castle, Ukridge, the Drones Club, etc - I'd go for one of those. The one that got me started I think was called The Wodehose Omnibus, but I imagine it's out of print. I found it at a library sale years ago, and it was an old banged up hardcover even then.

Technically not the last episode. There was, in fact, Blackadder Back and Forth, which I happened to have watched last night. Which is good, although the timing is a little off, in that they seemed to have a little trouble figuring out if they were still shooting a sitcom episode or a short film.

That's good to hear. I have it sitting on my DVR and haven't really felt all that inclined to watch because the show is getting a little tiresome. I LOVE the actors, but the writing can be too outlandish for me. I tend to like the episodes that brings it back to Earth. The White Sox aren't going to really appreciate what they had in Ozzie until he quits and then he settles down in some smaller media market and wins that team a title.

Well, just over 25 hours until the trip to visit my folks begins. I'm a bit nervous, especially since the longest Sarah and I have been apart since we've started living together is something like 24 hours. I'm used to sleeping next to her every night.
Nevertheless, I'm hoping something positive comes out of this.

Is there an authority I can submit my proposal to that I am, in fact, the first nerd in history to get a date with a cute little Spanish girl in Harlem because I was reading a Song of Ice and Fire book? I want that distinction.
If it were "Love in the Time of Cholera," I wouldn't be surprised one iota. George R.R. Martin? That's modern-day Tolkein territory, so it's nerd romcom fodder, for sure.
I think I need to carry around a copy of "Eat, Pray, Love" because every woman in the greater Metropolitan D.C. area apparently has read it and wants to live it.....

I like to think that we are all hoping for a positive outcome.

I only know this because every patron who has read it wants to talk about how wonderful it is; now a co-worker tried to read it but just couldn't finish it...she was mumbling something about wish-fulfillment and implausibly positive situations.

Yep that's our Ozzie! I totally agree with your sentiment. Could be worse though, we could be on the north side with a team that is willing to pick up Jim Edmonds and dump a youngster, just to win THIS YEAR.

The worst present you can give a Cubs fan is to pick them to go to the World Series.
Still, in a year of mediocre baseball, maybe they'll be the mediocrest!

Oh, for God's sake.
My mother gave me italian chicken for lunch and didn't see the cashews or something. Now I feel ill and my throat is semi-constricted...
No, I'm not going into shock.

It is officially the centennial this year, however. I still think as the season goes on, every call will start to go their way. They are on sale, they are arguably the most popular team in baseball, a championship would boost their price dramatically, and they are the last of the "losers".
