Yeah. The more I think about it, the more likely it will be french toast sticks at Burger King or some such.

Although the counter at Denny's is always half-empty, even when there's an hour wait for a table. Weirdos.

I hope my mother's card arrived in time. It was something about how Mother's Day is traditionally not one of the drinking holidays but, really, why the hell not?

My roommates dubbed all the knock-off cereals "Smarmy Charms".

They're the same thing, except two dollars cheaper. Our store [across from my flat] has big-ass discounts. It's cheaper than Wal-Mart, that's for sure.

Paradox
05-11-2008, 10:52 AM
Oh, heck, I know that (although it depends on which ones...some of the knock-offs are FAR inferior to the real things). I've always preferred to buy Malt-O-Meal's cereal in a bag, because it's far cheaper. Cereal is way over-priced anyway. Most of them are just formed grain, sugar and sprayed on vitamins. Their profit margin must be enormous. When I was a child, cereal cost LESS than a gallon of milk, not three times as much.

Really? Here you can get a gallon of milk for around $1.59-1.89, while most name brand cereals are coming very close to the $4.00 mark (OK, "three time" was hyperbole for effect but not by much).

Wow. Here milk costs around $3 a gallon, which is similar to a humongous bag of generic cereal, which itself generally has twice what a name brand does for dollar or two less.

And a quick check and I find it's Malt-O-Meal that we have. Three bucks for a bag of cereal the size of my pillow.

Hmmm...just checked some prices online and I'm a LITTLE mistaken. Milk's going about $2.50 a gallon at the store I usually go to. Still cheaper than yours, though. So our ratio is close to 2:1 to the name brand cereals, then.

And, yeah, Malt-O-Meal bags are a great deal!

Looking at my supermarket's website, a gallon of milk is $3.79 for store brand and $4.89 for Land o' Lakes.

Bag cereal is basically $3.75 - $4.75. Name brands are a little cheaper. But for fewer ounces, of course.

How goes the CD ripping, Athena?

Just got through my Toby Keith and Chris Isaak.... and there's about 70 more to go.

I called in sick to work because I woke up this morning with a migraine at 8 AM. Took some meds and it still wasn't workable at 9 so I called work. It only started to clear up around 1.

I hate calling in, especially now with the possibility of me taking over magazines and the CDs and DVDs when Andrew leaves at the end of the summer (if not sooner), and I'm being watched for job performance.

I'm hoping that having an insane headache, feeling like my head was essentially on fire doesn't look bad on me. I know if I had gone to work I would have been miserable and there's a new mandate kinda thing now that miserable people go home (unless they sell iRewards cards) so I think I did a good thing by calling in.

The mags thing is a way to get out of the cash line and actually do something and work according to my abilities and strengths. I just get worried that there's going to be that one thing they are going to use against me, like calling in sick when I'm sick and stuff that is going to work against me.

Plus, AaD had an actual danger. A threat to destroy Vatican City via Anti-Matter, now that's a good one. Plus, there's a somewhat good twist at the end.

I'm still paying $2.65 a gallon for milk. And thank God for that; we go through 3 gallons every 2 weeks. Aldi's has a fairly decent selection of cereals for the Things, but I only allow them one box of sweet stuff a month; rest of the time they stick to oat rings or crisped rice. I get a box of frosted mini-wheats once a month and have either yogurt or fruit in the morning.

I've never been one for breakfast. And that rubs off on them; took me the better of 6 months to convince them to eat before school. But they've noticed the difference when they do have a bite first thing.

Sundays are special: sticky buns, eggs, sausage, biscuits and gravy, French toast, egg sammiches. We'll pick out something along those lines and cook it up when we get home from church.

I been thinking a lot about our meals and selections and such, and I honestly don't remember my mother ever having us so involved in making food. We ate what was set before us and we were happy. Vegetables sucked both in selection and preparation. And we usually got left near the comics or toys when she went shopping so the biggest choice we made was the cereal.

I drag the Things with me down each and every aisle. I ask their help in making grocery lists. We bag it together and store it together. More complicated meals I do alone, but the basics -- boiling water, stirring, adding seasonings -- they get their hands right in. I sure as hell don't recall even getting out pots or utensils, except when setting the table.

Paradox
05-11-2008, 01:18 PM
I'm still of the opinion that "breakfast is the most important meal of the day" is an antiquated concept that throws back to when most people did physical work. I find eating right before work tends to make me more lethargic. I think it also contributes to the overall weight problem in the U.S. I don't think it's wise to eat a big breakfast and then go sit in a chair for 4-5 hours.

I will give Brown one thing - he was a genius at setting up chapter cliffhangers in Da Vinci Code. Really, I think that's what drove the book more than anything else. The book itself was kind of dull, but he was great at finishing each chapter at the height of action. Which is part of why the movie sucked, you weren't able to manipulate that for the movie.

Today is a good day for French toast.

yes, yes it is... or was. Also a good day to watch Iron Man again... which I did. Drove with Gary to work on our bikes and zipped off to the theatre, got there just as the Dark Knight trailer was coming on. Rarely ever have I seen a movie thrice in the theatre and never before by myself . Damn that's an enjoyable movie. I'll admit it - I am smitten with Robert Downey's performance. Very compelling. It was fun to, to see it in a rather full theatre. People were laughing and you got the sense that everyone was enjoying themselves. Gary and I always go to weekday matinees so we miss the crowd reactions.

Ah. A lot of my stuff is mixtapes and really obscure hip-hop so I have to a lot of manual naming and adding of album art.

I don't know about that. Sure there the poseurs at those kinds of shows who are just there to do drugs or whatever, but metal shows can be really fucking dangerous. I've seen way too many people get the shit beaten out of them, and they were nowhere near the mosh pit.

And the mosh pit is a totally different beast itself. There are some people who will help someone up when they fall in the middle of a mosh pit, but there are just as many who would rather just kick or stomp the person instead.

So I learned two new origami patterns this weekend: a rose and a spiral CD case. I think they're just great. The CD case makes me happy. It's so much simpler than it looks.

Well, I think I've gotten everything together for tomorrow. Had my sister check over documents to see if I missed anything but to her surprise -- and to the detriment of her ego -- I got it all.

I just went over my notes and gathered my paperwork. Got stuff from the last hearing and decision. Even got stuff together to complain about the lack of action on collecting child support (which was marked as 'urgent' back on 3/06 but has actually moved backwards).

And get this:

I've been scheduled for an employment reassessment and training seminar next Monday. I just found a second job and they're gonna try to pull me in for not working unless I provide proof.

And I'd be starting the new job tomorrow if I wasn't going to a fecking advisory meeting tomorrow to fight the same recoupment that I went to a fair hearing about back in March that I only just received the decision on 4/23.

Why in the hell am I putting up with this?

In all honesty, I've put in less effort working 2 jobs, taking care of the Things and almost dying from a ruptured cyst (Christmas 2006) than I have with all this public assistance. And of all the people I've talked to in the past year who've been on PA -- and believe me, in my neighborhood that's nearly 1 per house on a street of two-family dwellings -- have never had this experience.

I found out by talking to the caseworker on our child support that our case has been sitting untouched for 3 years. When I went for the petition of enforcement last year, the agency had a massive round of lay-offs and the person assigned to my case disappeared and was never replaced. The woman in charge of that area retired before Christmas 2007 and never finished checking all the cases before she left. Mind, she's had the case and the garnishment from the supreme court since 2005.

The only thing I've ever got mad about while high was when the S.U.C. (a rap collective from the Southside of Houston) was beefing with the Northside. Me and my buddy were pissed to the point that we were destroying the CDs of these guys. Nevermind that we didn't leave on the Northside of Houston or Houston at all for that matter. We were pissed.

I wanna walk into a bar, find myself a girl
Introduce myself, tell her that I like her shoes
Tell her she can buy her own drinks
I pull her to a dark corner, kiss her and make her heart sink
It's funny when the thugs with the tattoos think
That I'm a nerdy ass first base classroom geek
They walk by me and they don't even speak (word)
Then they find their girlfriend propped up on the bathroom sink
She's kissing me
We feelin the rhythm of slow drums givin delicate kisses with little to no tongue
It's so fun
She happily will follow the mirage
She's warm like a bottle of Shiraz (Goddamn)
There's something so especially unique about a girl that thinks her boyfriend's jealousy is weak
So right before he punches me and breaks my nose
I touch her whole entire body with the makeout rows

Cause I'm a makeout bandit
If you don't understand it
Keep your little love thing away from me
Cause I'm a makeout bandit
If you don't understand it
Keep your one night stand away from me
Cause I'm a makeout bandit
If you don't understand it
Keep your damn jealousy away from me
Cause I'm a makeout bandit
If you don't understand it
You should probably stay away from me

She wants to walk into a bar, find herself a boy
Introduce herself, tell him that she likes his ink
Tell him she can buy her own drinks
Pull him to a dark corner, bite his neck and make his heart sink
Play the harp strings in him, feel the sharp sting lightly
She got a sweet burn like a Long Beach ice tea
He feels flattered, he feels like such a bachelor
He asks for her name, but she says it doesn't matter
Like "Listen up boy, you're not my boo you're not my king
Don't say another word you're gonna ruin everything
I'm just choosin every dream that I've had with my flavor"
She's a humanitarian, she's not a player (damn)
She doesn't drink til she can't comprehend
Therefore she doesn't wake up next to random body skin
And she'll keep every bobby pin, bracelet, and necklace
Tells him you will not regret this

Cause I'm a makeout bandit
If you don't understand it
Keep your little love thing away from me
Cause I'm a makeout bandit
If you don't understand it
Keep your one night stand away from me
Cause I'm a makeout bandit
If you don't understand it
Keep your damn jealousy away from me
Cause I'm a makeout bandit
If you don't understand it
You should probably stay away from me

You gotta put away the jealousy and drama, let it go (let it go)
You gotta put away the guns in your rap songs, let 'em go (let 'em go)
You gotta swallow that weak-ass anger, let it go (let it go)
You gotta stop takin life so serious and let it go
(make out with the universe)

I wanna walk into a venue, find myself Bjork
Introduce myself, tell her that I like her music
Ask her if she'll purchase me a car
Take her outside then I'll kiss her underneath the bright stars
From shiny Mission West back to Raytown High
I had to serenade my baby with the K-town vibe
I hit the switches on the tre pound five
And make Icelandic love on the playground slide
Cause I'm the makeout guy
Cause I'm a makeout bandit
If you don't understand it
Keep your little love thing away from me

Cause I'm a makeout bandit
If you don't understand it
Keep your one night stand away from me
Cause I'm a makeout bandit
If you don't understand it
Keep your damn jealousy away from me
Cause I'm a makeout bandit
If you don't understand it
You should probably stay away from me

Whoa, sing softly
Above the trees where Billy breathes we float upon the air
Whoa, oh

Softly sing sweet songs
Softly sing sweet songs
Softly sing sweet songs
Ooooh ooooh

Silent scenes in motion means, I'll wake you when we're there
Whoa, sing softly
Time, it seems, in broken dreams, to sleep beside the stair
Whoa, oh
Oh, oh

Softly sing sweet songs
Softly sing sweet songs
Softly sing sweet songs

Ideas that would take me all around the world
I stood and watched the smoke behind the mountain curl
It took me a long time to get back on the train

Now I'm gone and I'll never look back again
I'm gone and I'll never look back at all
You know I'll never look back again
I turn my face into the howlin' wind
It took me a long time to get back on the train

See my face in the town that's flashing by
See me standing at the station in the rain
See me running there beside the car
I left it all behind, again I'll travel far
It took me a long time to get back on the train
