Could it be because they're hideously ugly?

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and all...

You didn't know it yourself?

I meant besides myself, of course.

you know what else? Halibut with burnt orange and thai chili sauce is beyond yummy. not bad with a nice Auchentoshan on the rocks.

I've never had Halibut, but that sounds pretty good.

They're pretty aware of it too. I just saw an ad for their new heels (http://www.littlerubbershoes.com/post/112) and the tagline is something about coming from such ugly parents.

also, I feel it's time for a drink. I think I'm gonna pour myself a Stark.

I would love one too. But I'm meeting up with Gus's family soon enough. So both the reason to have one and the reason to abstain. Day three of a six-day visit.

I know. It's repulsively fascinating.

We are getting amazing Halibut right now. If you go to Alaska you must stop by. It's kinda on the way (particularly if you're going by boat)

I worded it poorly. I have about a buffer hour. They arrived Saturday and leave Thursday. They're at the tv station now.

We changed our microwave oven about 3 months ago and today I'm seeing the results: the electrical bill went down around 100 bucks.

We've run the AC's nonstop for the past month, with a steady 100º+ temperature, so I was dreading the bill. I was happy to see it was 1/3rd lower than last year's.

Hnnh. I'm in a building on campus. Building is locked. Lady knocks on window of room I'm in and asks to be let in as she's looking for somebody and very worried.

Harmless-looking lady in her late forties or so, I don't see the problem. A few minutes later she finds me again asking for direction to the math graduate student offices, at which point it occurs to me I probably know the person and could help.

She tells me he wouldn't appreciate people knowing she's looking for him and would prefer not to give his name.

Is that not a bit odd? She's possibly somebody's mother. Or possibly... I dunno.

I found the situation strange.

We had a woman once who wanted us to look up her order that she made back in November. She didn't have a day for November, just ballparked it as November. She didn't have the order number so we asked her for her name to which she then said, "Why do you need that kind of information to look up an order?"

The Joker Poker Set

http://i.newsarama.com/dcnew/Aug08/11/tdk.jkr.pokerset.jpg

This unique collectors’ item includes a deck of 54 prop replica Joker cards (as seen in The Dark Knight film!) and a standard “playable” 4-suit, 54 card deck defaced by The Joker. Also included are 100 4-color poker chips in Joker-themed colors of green, purple, red and black, and 5 dice. The entire set comes housed in a black aluminum carrying case (which locks to prevent The Joker from defacing the second set of cards!), and the case is packaged in a 4-color box. A 4-color Certificate of Authenticity is also included and appears as one of the playing cards!

Advance-solicited; on sale August 27, 2008 * Poker Set * $99.

A kind - - damn near THE kindest, most generous man I've ever had the pleasure of meeting. He owned Comic Relief in Berkely, California; an upper than upscale comic outlet. It was like walking into a fine library. He helped make comics classy and poured his heart into the biz, helping books and their creators.

I had heard legendary tales of Comic Relief, so, as I do sometimes I took a road trip to experience it for myself. I was overwhelmed; completely in awe of not just the shop but also of Mr. Root. We spoke at stitched length about characters, books, and the industry. Got to keep in contact with him on Warren Ellis' old forum and The Engine. Great man.

I ordered a book for my wife and a DVD for my daughter on Amazon. Amazon sent the book on May 7th with an estimated delivery date of the 13th. The shipment that was in arrived from Jacksonville into Tallahassee at 2:08 a.m. on Monday the 12th. It's now the 19th and STILL NO BOOK. Amazon also shipped out the DVD on the 11th with an estimated delivery date of the 17th, and tracking proves futile.

I know. I mean, is someone reading the book in the USPS warehouse or something? Did they just decide to let that shipment gather dust for a week or so?

Heck, if it was for me I'd be a bit less angry. But it's for my wife and she's been dying for this book and she's seen it in stores for cheaper than I paid for it, but she knows I already ordered it for her.

Sounds like a local fault, not the USPS. Maybe even the companies you're dealing with. It's easy to bitch about the postal service, but if you consider that most times, you can get something hand-delivered to any place in the country for under a dollar? Kind of amazing.

The only problem I really have with USPS, is that "shit happens" fairly consistently.

So, what I do, is if it's something I want or need immediately, I pay a little bit extra to make sure it finds it's way to me on time.

Doc, just wait for KM to piss him off.

Art is an exercise of math!

Heh. Yeah, that would be bad. But only if he insisted that was the only way to teach art.

Sure Art has mathematical applications, but that's not the way to teach art, in my opinion...at all.

I was a senior when I met that Art/Math teacher, and knew it was a waste of money and time for me. He could teach me nothing. Math formulas hinder my actual art process. For me it was a free flowing process.

All I'm seeing is shit, for the most part.

And he will math us to death, and prove we are all wrong.

Wait. He never does that.

But visually representing the slowing of time doesn't necessarily need a degree in math or physics, as long as it looks realistic. Yes?

Basic comprehension, sure. But I really don't need to learn mathematical theories to figure out and calculate what looks realistic.

Okay, I know one. Hell, I get my Sea Cadet supplies there. The filters are another story, I haven't asked, though.

I need to find one that's decent enough to let you see. When I visit, the humidity is bearable [less than my time in Louisiana].

We like things like this (http://scienceblogs.com/goodmath/2007/03/the_mapping_of_the_e8_lie_grou.php) (the picture down the page).

Also, we're into fractals, abstraction and 2/3-dimensional representations of 4 (or higher)-dimensional objects like the hypercube (http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/2/22/Hypercube.svg/417px-Hypercube.svg.png) or a Klein bottle (http://www.sgocity.com/pix/klein_bottle.jpg).

Also of course things like the Mobius strip, which is best found in that issue of Promethea.

Etcetera.
