In an unusual move, an advertising conglomerate is expected to take over the low-rated 7 to 10 p.m. Sunday block from The CW, and develop its own slate of programming. The deal, if it goes through, will allow The CW to concentrate on Mondays through Fridays.

Lets recap, they don't renew one of their highest rated shows in "SmackDown!", they sell off their Saturday morning programming to 4KidsTV, and now they're giving their Sunday night block to an advertising company. I like the way this network is currently going! It's only a matter of time before the CW will be closely fighting Ion/i/Pax and MyNetworkTV for getting fifth place in network television ratings.

I think that the CW's problem is that they are trying to be one thing, even though their highest rated shows (3 out of their 4 highest rated) aren't what they want to be. In other words, they're trying to build around "America's Next Top Model" and "Gossip Girl". "Reaper" has gotten better overall ratings than "Gossip Girl", but CW have given more advertising for "Gossip Girl" since it's more popular in the 18-34 demo.

Another problem I believe is that is that they still seem to rely too much on the WB to provide quality programming, who in turn and of no fault of their own, are more interested in moving their product to the highest and best financial choice for airing (i.e. other networks).

I think the big problem is that the CW is what's left of the WB, which was a good network, and UPN, which was a bit of a network, with only one good show - Veronica Mars - when the two merged. "The Frog" should've just stuck it out, and let UPN go under. They wouldn't be in much worse shape than they were, but wouldn't be saddled with UPN's guano programming, apart from the sadly gone "Mars."

The Wall Street Journal reports that "the network's hopes of surviving are looking increasingly bleak," with rampant speculation that next season could be the CW's last chance to save itself. But things aren't looking good. As the Journal points out, the CW's new fall schedule "suggests the network has few fresh ideas. It is debuting only three new shows, all designed to complement 'Gossip Girl."
