They didn't.

He's still writing two titles for them.

Which ones? He isn't doing Spiderman. He's not doing Supreme Power. He's not doing Thor anymore...so which?

He's not doing THOR anymore? That's news to me and probably many others.

The other book is THE TWELVE - a maxi-series featuring obscure Golden Age characters, which is about half way thru now.

I thought Matt Fraction was taking over Thor. The Twelve I forgot.

Eh, I don't have much hopes for this. Nothing I've seen or read of his implies that this sort of title would be a particularly good fit for him. I was personally really hoping it would be John Rogers because if he had to leave Blue Beetle for something, this would probably have been a good choice.

I'll wait to see if JMS's first issue gets good reviews but otherwise I may just be leaving with Waid.

My mistake. Matt Fraction is doing Thor: Age of Thunder and the minis that Cayman referrrd to. My bad, people. Don't have a coniption. Still getting B&B now.

Fraction is doing a series of Thor one-shots that deal about his years Pre-Banishment to earth/merging with Donald Blake. This could be an indication that Fraction is preparing to take over thor at some point in the future (like Cristos Gage's Thunderbolt's one shots forshadowed his upcoming breif run on the title), but there has been no real indication that JMS is leaving Thor proper. Which is a shame. Cause I loath JMS on that book.

I'm interested to see how he works with the DC heroes. I loved Supreme Power, so I'll pick up this to see how it is.

Really? I think the book is reintorducing Thor to the Marvel universe quite well, albeit slowly, which I prefer. That issue with Thor v. Iron Man rocked.

Why don't you like the book?

In as short as possible (this is a DC thread after all) It's boring, preachy, ripped off salient points from eternals, turned loki into a girl, ruined the Ragnorock storyline by invalidating most of it, and (since I'm vehemently pro-registration) had that annoying Iron Man/Thor issue.

Then again I found most of JMS' run on spider-man to be mediocre, and most people disagree with me on that too. I LOVED Rising stars and Supreme Power (I've lent the hardcovers of Supreme power to everyone I know), so eh. I'll give this a shot.

I'm disappointed.

I'm not a fan of JMS personally. I've enjoyed some of his work. I like what little I've read of Thor (I've got the first hardcover on my nightstand at home waiting), but his work on Spider-Man led me to drop the title I had collected since the early 80s. Spider-Man comics should, imho, be fun. His wasn't.

Brave & Bold, currently, is my favorite comics title because it's fun. I fear JMS' stuff won't be.

But, honestly, the biggest reason for me to drop it is Jesus Saiz taking over as artist. Just not fond of his style.

Shame.

Brave and the Bold. This way it will give him the opportunity to write a bunch of different characters.

Looks like I can pick 'em. Now if only I could win Lotto...

I think it's a 'safe' title to for JMS begin with, giving him a chance to get his feet wet with DC characters, without being tied down to strong continuity.

He'll probably be energized by the fact that he'll be able to use characters he finds interesting, and it should show through in the writing.

I was just thinking the same thing. Truth be told, B&B seems like the ideal book for those writers who don't like dealing in continuity.

It might even work for someone like Warren Ellis, who could tell the stories he wants and choose his protagonists from the pool of DCU characters, which would also allow him to avoid using superheroes if he wanted.

The potential drawback of course, is that you might wind up with things like a flamboyantly gay Space Cabby teaming up with a bitter, chain-smoking Aquaman...

I've never been a huge JMS fan, but I"m glad to see the title being handed to someone else. The first 6 issue arc was excellent, but this second one was abysmal. I don't think I enjoyed a single issue of it.

At the dc nation panel at the emerald ciry comic con, Jms told the fans about some of the teams up there would be on his tenure of the brave and the bold. there are Batman and Spectre, Lex Luthor and Swamp Thing, Deadman and Wonder Woman, Flash (Barry Allen) and the Blackhawks, Constantine and Eclipso, Doom Patrol and the Legion of Super-Heroes, Two-Face and Hawk and Dove, Challengers of the Unknown and the Metal Men and the Legion of Substitute Heroes and the Inferior Five. Oh, and he also said there be a Ambush bug and Jonah Hex team up!!!! Total awesome right there.

Actually thats a pretty great list of team-ups.

Of course Im excited about the Doom Patrol and Legion. go figure right?

Barry Allen and the Blackhawks are great, but you know what I'm excited for mostly out of that whole list.....................yeah besides the Inferior Five/Subs.

It's the Lex Luthor and Swamp Thing that I want to read the most about.

Was he actually serious about those team ups, seeing as how quite a few of those characters are supposedly Vertigo-only. If he is serious though, then there really is no chance that I'm not going to continue with the series despite my reservations about JMS being the right fit for this book.

Most of those actully sound very interesing. I was kinda getting bored with Brave and the Bold with the whole Mentals or whatever his name was subplot running though the whole first year, but if these team ups tunr out to be true then I will definetly be getting the book in the future.

Anything with Jonah Hex in it is set up for success right off that bat. I just can't get enough of the character.

The Constantine Eclipso sounds like it could be interesting as well.

I'm glad he's not just doing a ton of the most popular heroes. It's about time some lesser known DC characters got their due (Jonah Hex). Hell, he's even throwing the Metal Men in there, who are a great supporting crew (I just can't get behind them having their own book though).

These team ups sound very promising, I especially like the Lex Luthor and Swamp Thing idea.

Deadman and Wonder Woman sounds pretty sweet as well.

Also coming out of Bristol is word that Andy Kubert is joining Joe Michael Straczynski on "The Brave And The Bold."

I kind of hope they get the title back to doing more contained one or two issue story lines. The first six issue story was OK, but issue 7 to 12 was pretty dull and seemed very stretched out.

I've read most of JMS run on Spider-man. He got off to a good start, but around the same time that Romita Jr. split, it went down hill with that bad storyline about Gwyn Stacy then into the crossover story then into Civil War and on. I'm still curious to see what he could do with some DC characters.

I think the DCU-Vertigo border is a little more permeable these days (to Didio's credit ?). Besides, you've had Zatanna drifting between the 2 imprints for years and she's been a major player in Hellblazer, Identity Crisis, Books Of Magic, 7 Soldiers, Countdown, etc.).

Also, there seems like there might be an unofficial rule about characters reverting back to the DCU after a certain amount of inactivity and/or failure in the Vertigo line.

How has Zatanna been a major player in Hellblazer? She's been in it for all of 5 panels or so in an anniversary issue.

To be honest, I was just guessing; I don't actually read that title, but I was aware that she had been a supporting character in it for awhile and logically figured that she might have been a major player in at least one of the stories over the last 5 + years or so (same with the Books Of Magic).

In hindsight, I probably should have written that she'd been a major player in the DC and Vertigo universes with her participation in Identity Crisis, Hellblazer, yadda yadda.

I'd love to see Shade The Changing Man make a comeback in his original incarnation, from his Ditko series and Suicide Squad appearances. B&B would be he perfect venue for that. I loved the Vertigo series, but it's time to bring him back into the DCU proper.
