I know this doesn't get the sales of something like "Batman, The Dark Knight Takes a Dump". But if you want to see a master at work, pick this up. Kubert's art is better than ever and he knows how to tell a story in comics. Drama, prehistoric monsters, brilliant art, and an awesome last page. What more can you ask for.

It was, for sure, very cool and very fun to read. It's hard to go wrong with Joe Kubert. And it's hard to go wrong with cavemen.

It's always great to see more Kubert art, and Tor really plays to his strengths as an artist. Kubert is an absolute master stroyteller.

I've read "Batman, The Dark Knight Takes a Dump," and let me just say that sh*t stinks...
ahem: Tor, on the other hand (the clean one, of course) was sweet as fresh strawberry-rhubarb pie, and took me back back back to prehistoric times when I was a kid reading Tor, the first time. Already I like this better than Kubert's Sgt. Rock story of a few years back, which I felt was pretty standard stuff well-drawn. Tor somehow transcends this for me, despite it being pretty standard stuff, if really well-drawn. Caveman exiled (do we know why?), ventures into forbidden land, WHOA--dinos! And Moonboy...or at least, hairy boy...rescued only to discover...
well... nonetheless, I very much enjoyed this first, opening issue and am well satisfied I've ordered the whole series!

Almost all of the DC comics I have bought recently fall outside their mainstream super-hero universe. May I also recommend the "Bat Lash" mini-series from writers Peter Brandvold and Sergio Aragones and artist John Severin. The sixth and final issue is coming out next week.

I second that. Severin, another Elder Statesmen of the comics world who is still at the top of his game.
And it's not that looking at this work is some nostalgic trip, these guys are as good as any young buck drawing today.

Heh--! I third that! Bat Lash has been an excellent revitalization of the character.

There's actually a few non-superhero books to choose from:
Jonah Hex
Bat Lash
Tor
The War That Time Forgot
Basically all of Vertigo...
Simon Dark
Does the Spirit count as non-superhero?
Billy Tucci's Sgt. Rock mini looks like it'll be a treat, as well.

I've just read issue 2 and I am loving this book. It's not just beautiful to look at, it's well written and Tor is a great character.

PUBLISHER'S WEEKLY has a new interview up with Joe Kubert, both about TOR and his two projects after TOR.

The interview was conducted before Joe's wife, Muriel Kubert, passed away earlier this month. (http://pwbeat.publishersweekly.com/blog/2008/07/10/rip-muriel-kubert/)
May she forever rest in peace.

I just got the first issue of this today, and I'm really glad I picked it up. I've been looking into less traditional superheroic fare lately, and Tor, Red Sonja, and Conan have been a nice change.

Along with sons Adam and Andy and maybe some Westerns and who knows what else ?
YES !
I would kill for a Kubert Hawkman sketch.

Issue 4 was still more comic book goodness.
It's a good story when you care about what is happening to the characters. And I really like the little (and not so little) band of misfits.Things don't look so good for them and it's making for a good tale. I just dig the compassionate caveman idea.
Is this a sequel to or a retelling of Tor's previous tales?

I like his art but not his character. I'd rather read a Tarzan or Conan story or Ka-Zar or the Warthat time forgot by Bruce Jones.
