"Justice League of America" writer Dwayne McDuffie teases CBR readers wth what’s next for DC’s top-selling comic, and details exactly how "Final Crisis" will influence the book.

Wow, so that's the Human Flame. I was wondering who that guy with the moustache was in DC UNIVERSE #0.....

I'm glad JLoA won't be crossing over with Final Crisis for more than one issue. It seems that McDuffie really hasn't had a chance to shine on the book. The Injustice League storyline was a bit drawn out, but it was fun. After that though we had Alan Burnett do a three part story tying into Salvation Run and issue #21 is a Final Crisis tie-in. For a while there I was worried McDuffie wouldn't have a chance to do anything original with the book and it would be bogged down in one DC event after another.
Glad to hear that Firestorm and the Flash will be featured in the line-up too.

McDuffie's not forced to do yet another crossover with JLA? Hope this victory for logic and reasoning lasts.

I just love the symmetry that Final Crisis begins in Justice League of America #21, the same titla and issue where the very first crisis happened.
Sounds like Dwayne has some great stories in mind for the future, glad he doesn't have to tie in with the big series.

I never knew McDuffie works on the new Ben 10: Alien force series.
Also I would like to say that it is nice for McDuffie to have back up ideas that would help the JLA be a little more of the supureme Super-team of the DCU and try not to lose to the JSA and Johns great writing each week it comes out. :frown:
It's starting to sound like Final Crisis will be relatively self-contained, from McDuffy's comment re The League, plus the fact that "Trinity" seems not to have anything to do (directly) with it. But how can that be, if it's such a Big Deal, Evil Conquers the Universe, Blah Blah Blah? Unless the whole thing happens in one day (DC time) or such. Worse, it sounds like this "status quo changing" series will hardly affect the DC Universe. Except perhaps by killing some characters (nothing new in the current DC) and bringing back others. The only major thing so far are the deaths of Martian Manhunter and Batman... but we know neither of those will be any more permanent than Superman's (or Wonder Woman's, or Green Lantern's, or Green Arrow's, or- you get the idea.)
Even if the Multiverse is eliminated, current series will probably not be affected much. And I doubt continuity will be rebooted again, since there have been no announcements of titles getting restarted or such. Except perhaps Legion of Superheroes.

Didio has talked in several interviews about taking a different approach to 'event' series than Marvel and DC have in the past. They seem to be using the Sinestro Corps War as their model rather than Infinite Crisis/Secret War.
Personally, I prefer this approach. The story is relatively self-contained, you don't need to read 100+ titles to get the whole story, and writers can choose whether or not to have their books involved. Sometimes, it seems like a title never finds it's feet because of constant crossovers. This way, books don't have to stop everything to accomodate the event.
As for impact on the DCU, it's possible for the ramifications of Final Crisis to impact DC titles once the miniseries has ended.

“I can tease, but I can only tease cruelly in saying that I am going to give the Justice League the biggest challenge they have ever had,” said McDuffie. “They are going to run up against another organization of super-powered beings that are at least as powerful and lots sneakier and meaner.”
Asked if these “super-powered beings” are a collection of classic DCU villains or a band of McDuffie originals, the writer paused and said, “You know what, how do I answer that? I think it will be huge."

Imho, MacDuffie really delivered for the first time in the last Flash-Wonder Woman story. It was excellent, self-contained and (finally) didn't seem to tie in to any "event". I would definitely love to see more stories like that--so I'm too glad JLA isn't tying into Final Crisis too much.
