When I walked through my local comic shop I saw the german paperback "Amazonen greifen an". Yeah, it's "Amazons Attack" in German.
You know, I doubt that the publisher really wants to subject the german people to what many seem to think the worst crossover of DC and the by now legendary "Bee Weapon" quote. Since I'm out of touch with the german publishing of superhero comics for a couple of years I got into a conversation with the shop owner.
He said that you can't really blame the publisher. They can't just leave it out because of the tie-ins. If they did, the readers would ask for it. And after they got it, they would complain how bad it is. It's a situation where you can only lose. And it's not the first time something like that happens. They had to keep publishing the Spidey-Clone saga even after it was already very apparent that the readers were really tired of it all.
So okay, I can't blame them for publishing wrecks like Amazons Attack. But I get angry, when at the same time they don't publish the stuff that I consider really good. Usually I only subscribe to one DC (english) series, sometimes two. The last ones were Young Justice, Peter David's Supergirl and Batgirl. Yeah, I know, I have a lousy track record when it comes to choosing my favourits. Batgirl totally messed up and only slowly recovering. DC trying to pretend Linda Danvers never happened. And you know what happend to most of the Young Justice lineup.
So, before the current german publisher (Panini) took over the DC licences, DC was published by Dino. Dino did publish Young Justice. They brought out some of PAD's Supergirl. Batgirl was only just introduced, but No Man's Land was fully translated to german. Then Dino stopped their superhero line. Panini, until then mostly the publisher for Marvel, stepped in. But it seems there was just too much material and on top of that the superhero boom was over. The german readers can count themselvs lucky that there was someone who kept on. But no, there wasn't any more Young Justice. Or Batgirl. Or Supergirl.
I don't blame Panini. But I blame DC that the way they handle crossovers they force Panini to bring out crap like Amazons Attack instead of really good series!
