being an avid comic book fan, I heard about this game and thought 'finnaly! all my bizzare fantasies can finnaly come true without me exposing myself to dangerous radiation or wearing spandex!'
but I'd like to know if ts atchully any good, from a comic book point of view (hence these forums) I don't play many rpgs, never even touched a mmorpg, is the character design satisfying and detailed? are there enough powers to keep me interested and individual or does everyone just have the same ones? and can I web swing? Is it fun as a comic book fan?

City of heroes I didnt like. I should have known something was up when the biggest rave about the game was how customizeable your outfits are when you make your character. Even then it wasnt that big of a deal.

It starts off interesting enough but after about 6 hours I realized I was getting bit bored but I stuck with it since I had first 30 days free. By the end of the 30 days I had a blaster and brawler Id gotten up pretty far and I was still running through the same city streets, same alleys, same generic interiors doing the same things. The graphics would change a little depending on what city you were but they were all the same, the building interiors were of only like 2 different styles, you still fought street thugs and it got real old real quick.

COV was more of the same thing from what I heard, personally I canceled COH after my free 30 days and never cared to invest much in even reading about COV.

Everquest may be full of greedy, souless and emotionless players running on a broken up game engine, world of warcraft may be played by greedy kids with no attention spans that cant type a complete sentence but atleast those 2 games had some fun in them while the city of games had none.

It *really* depends on what you’re looking for. The game is built around pretty simplistic combat and lots of it, to the point that it’s easy to get tired of the repetitive missions if you don’t pace yourself. You can make a superteam for other players to join, and have your own superteam base. You can pick up salvage and use it to make “inventions” that help your characters existing powers, provide new powers, or give you new costume pieces.

is the character design satisfying and detailed?

Pretty much. The biggest thing I can think of that you cannot do is make a mis-shapen character, with like one arm bigger than the other or something. They do not like you making a complete copy of established characters though, like Hulk or Superman or whatever. And some characters can be recreated pretty well using the character designer.

are there enough powers to keep me interested and individual or does everyone just have the same ones?

Off the top of my head, the powers available to different classes (each class has a different role and different powers available to it) can be divided into 7 types.
-Ranged damage- Shooting various types of energy blasts from the hands/eyes/mouth. Also two handed guns, bow and arrow, two pistols at once, or throwing little things.
-Holds- Using some form of energy or traps or melee attack to keep your opponents in place.
-Buffs/Debuffs- Strengthening/healing yourself/allies or weakening your enemies
-Melee damage- Glowing fists, super strength (hitting, no grappling), claws, swords, bats, axes, maces, generic martial arts, etc etc.
-Pets- Being able to summon and control energy beings, plant things, thugs, mercenaries, ninjas, robots, or undead
-Defense- Various degrees of some sort of graphic representation on your character to let others know how tough you are to kill.
-Travel powers- Flight, Teleporting, Superspeed, and Super Jumping.

and can I web swing?

No. And it’s unlikely that’ll be included. There are too many low lying maps for it to believably work everywhere.

Is it fun as a comic book fan?

I like it. I’m a huge fan of superheroes, and I’ve been playing on and off for around 3 years. I am really big into roleplaying characters though, and there’s a pretty good community for that in CoH/CoV. I can spend whole nights just talking to people and having fun, and not run a mission for days at a time.
