Any idea which series IDW will be releasing under their Library of American comic claassics? How about real release dates for the titles they have and why the big delays? Are they not selling well? Finally, any reccomends besides Comics Revue for comic strip collections? Thanks for the help here.
I can't really help but I just want to declare -- again -- my love of books of collected comic strips and my regret that there aren't as many as I'd like! Of both classic and current strips.
I'd like to know more about IDW's plans.
In the meantime, I'm looking forward to Checker's "Beetle Bailey" collections ...

I'd like to see Ray Billingsley's Curtis collected in book form.

Except for umpteen pbs of Peanuts, Wizard of Id, Dennis the Menace, Tumbeweeds, Andy Capp, BC & probably a couple of others as a kid, I've read darned few strip collections -- a couple of early Li'l Abners, 3 or 4 volumes of Gil Thorp (one of my guilty pleasures), the first volume of Dykes to Watch Out For ... maybe that's it. (Well, plus every Zippy the Pinhead compendium I've been able to get my hands on -- a fair amount of 'em -- since getting hooked on the strip in the New Times in Phoenix while going to grad school out there in the early '80s.)
That's not intentional, except to the extent that I can't read (&, even more relevant, buy) everything .... though not, I sometimes think, for lack of trying.

Checker is realesing Beetle Bailey? I must be asleep at the wheel! When and what other titles fall under Checker?
What does SPEC productions offer...Anyone try anything from them yet?

According to Amazon ..
http://www.amazon.com/Beetle-Bailey-1950-1951-Mort-Walker/dp/1933160713/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1209562502&sr=1-1
.. May 25th this year. I can hardly wait as I absolutely love Beetle Bailey!
Checker also do Flash Gordon, Steve Canyon, Little Nemo .. doubtless others.
I don't mind adventure strips but I think I prefer humourous ones ...
Don't forget IDW who are doing Dick Tracy, Terry and the Pirates, Li' Orphan Annie, I believe ...
Who are SPEC?

A friend of mine says that SPEC Productions puts out Comic Strip Compilations similiar to Comics revue but I have not been able to look them up on the Web yet. Just curious if anyone has tried anything by them or knows anything else...
(By the way I actually got three of the Steve Canyon books and just realized that Checker put them out. I really need to come off Decaf and go caffeine!)

You just made my day  They've published around 4 volumes in Danish, so I've been looking for the English version.

I'd probably love it a bit more if I hadn't been called "Beetle" more than a few times as a kid because of my surname ...

Amazon has release dates for IDW's Complete Dick Tracy 4-6, Complete Terry and the Pirates 3-5, Complete Little Orphan Annie 1, and Noel Sickles' Scorchy Smith (all of which are on my to-buy list).
They do seem to have trouble keeping those dates. Little Orphan Annie was set for February and now appears to be pushed back to June. Terry and the Pirates 2 was delayed, 3 was set for January (I believe it was released to retailers last week). Dick Tracy has had its share of delays as well.
It just seems to be part of the process of finding and scanning the best quality strips possible. Fantagraphics' Complete Pogo was set for last December, I think we'll be lucky if we see it this December. Fantagraphics has said they'd like to release their Complete Popeye books more often than once a year, but the process takes too long (they're attempting to get Vol. 3 out a mere 8 months after Vol. 2).
In other news, I read on the Comics Journal website yesterday that some company I've never heard of will be republishing Wash Tubbs.

That's the same problem I have been running into...accurate information on release dates. Thanks for the update though and if you hear anything new post it.

They are geared more toward hard core collectors of specific series, so they're pricy, but the quality is okay. Comics Revue is better bang for your buck.

You are right in that Spec is signiicantly pricier for what you get. I think I will stick to the Collected hardback books for now...
Thanks for the info though...
