Lolz, yeah the newbies didn't fare so well. The grown up X-Men all look great though imo (except Sam, who's costume only really works when Bachalo/Ramos draw him).

But where's Rogue? :(

The art looks terrible. I have been a big fan of Cassady but this looks very sub-par. Angel looks bland and undefined. Storm looks terrible. The characters in the background look lousy. This book needs to die. It's shameless. It's story has been ruined for the most part, we know Kitty has something happen to her. And now Cassady's art looks rushed? (though god knows he has FOREVER to do the issue). Weak.

This story is set right after Blinded by the Light, so Rogue's with the Marauders during this.

I have to disagree. Storm looks better than she has in other titles. The only character that looks really off to me is Warpath. Other than that, the art looks much cleaner.

Why didn't they just write him out? He was supposed to be chilling in the infirmary at that point, wasn't he?

i know, and i'm mostly okay with it. this issue to me serves as nothing more than an ending to whedon & cassaday's run. i just wish it came out months ago when it was supposed to.

. And now Cassady's art looks rushed? (though god knows he has FOREVER to do the issue). Weak.

Not true, according to a recent podcast with Cassaday he said the gap in between issue #24 and giant size #1 was to allow him to do another project ( i foget who with). It wasn't an issue of a delayed script by Whedon or anything of that nature.

Toooooootally agreed! Angel and Nightcrawler look fantastic too.

Whedon actually wanted to use Storm and Nightcrawler originally iirc, but editorial wanted to spread the A-listers more (and Kurt specifically was one of Alan Davis' demands before he'd take Uncanny). This is also why Claremont lost Rogue and Gambit iirc (to Austin, who didn't even want them).

Cassidy shouldnt be drawing superhero comics. He's too realistic i think. Good artist but not a great fit.

However if this comic will kill off Kitty a pox on it. I feel he's done enough damage to the character as is. And replacing kitty with colossus is both a silly move its also from a storytelling angle a bad idea. Colossus is very very uninteresting.

Him wanting to nail 13 year olds, while not a positive trait, is the only one that sticks out

omg this looks freaking AWESOME! Spidey and Iceman interaction = full of win. I actually like that Cassady went with the "classic" look Iceman.

It sure makes me wish the other X-Men had a chance to been included throughout past arcs.

I wonder if Spidey is making a quip about all the the kids he doesn't recognise in the panel with Warpath and Pixie lol. It looks like it's gonna be alot of fun.

It's nice to see Megans hair and wings correctly colored somewhere atleast. Victor looks cute! It's awesome that we get one more outing with the New X-Men team that ended before they even had chance to go on a mission together (aside from Messiah).

Oh, KITTY! :frown: *sniff*

About time someone decided to place the X-Men in the Marvel U. Over the years I got the feeling that the editors might have thought a regular appearance from an Avenger/non-mutant(not post mutants) would be some kind of killing blow to all the X-Men woes. Yeah, I'll be sticking with Astonishing with my latest selection X-Men: Legacy. It'll be interesting to see how this newly discovered integration pan out with Ellis helming.

Hmm? Maybe, we'll get a Thunderbolts X-Men crossover? Hmm?

I'm pretty stoked for this comic. It's going to suck when it's over, but it's been a pretty exhilarating ride and once it's all said and down I'm sitting down and reading it all at once.

Astonishing X-Men has been the go-to X-Men book for me. It honored the past, while feeling fresh and not entirely cluttered. It didn't rely on constant twists and turns to tell a story. It was actually fairly straight forward. I liked that.

Hopefully, sometime in the future, Whedon (and even Cassaday) can come back and tackle the X-Men once more.

Sad to say but I'm excited for this. I really have enjoyed Whedon's run. Sure its been kinda dull and drab but the stories are good and the dialogue doesn't make me want to jab my eyes out with a dull pencil.

I still love Morrison's X-men run over Whedon's, but hey good quality is good quality and I can't wait to read the finale to Joss's run.

IGN's second preview (http://uk.comics.ign.com/articles/870/870872p1.html) states that this is only "32 full color pages" and that the release date is now May 28, pushed back another week.

I certainly hope they're in error on both counts. It's got to be more than 32 pages, which is what IGN lists for regular-sized issues, but I just hope the actual story exceeds the page-count of a regular issue. Paying extra money just to read interview pages of Whedon and Cassaday patting themselves on the back doesn't strike me as something I want to do.

I hope they're wrong too, but at this point what's another week?

That bullet looks like a giant shiny suppository... I just hope Galactus is not around...

The thing is another week tends to turn into another, and another, and another . . .

I thought that surely now that previews had been released it was actually coming out. However, Marvel.com also has a date of the 28th now. Humbug!

I think something had to have been changed. Maybe Marvel didn't want the book to end on predictably.

Lets not push it that far...but something doesn't jive, it can't just be that Cassaday is a slow ass artist.

I'll be interested to see if something was changed - because I think a few people have actually seen the issue or the script at least and should know.

I'm just so ready to see the ending.

It totally can.

So, all this lateness is just for 32 pages? Damn, not even Hitch is that slow!

are you kidding me? I've always been a Bachalo critic, but his last arc on spidey was INCREDIBLE. Best art we've seen so far in BND.

I love Cassady as well, but he can't keep up with ASM's schedule.i dont get spidey  that y i said what i said

^Agreed.

At this point if the May 28th date actually holds, that will mean that Astonishing X-Men, All-Star Batman, and All-Star Superman will all be released on the same day. That has to be a sign of the apocalypse.

On a serious note, another delay even if it is only a week, is really disheartening. I'm done with X-Men after this and every Marvel title that isn't monthly. There's no point in trying to keep up with it, it just leads to a lot of disappointment and stress. I read the first two arcs of Astonishing in trade, and that was a much better way to experience them. Of course, once you're hooked you want every little fix as soon as possible, but it just isn't worth it. So the used trade paperback market can have my $4-5 for a trade every year, but the comic book shops can't have my $20 for those single issues. There's not really a point in fighting the system anymore.

What's maddening is how the old Claremont and any of his collaborators could have told the whole run of Astonishing X-Men in six issues in six months. I know the decompressed storytelling is better suited for 2008, since now our brains are even lazier and everyone's reading abilities have been so influenced by the motifs of television and film, but neither Whedon's writing nor Cassaday's art are worth these delays. They're worth a lot, but they're not worth this. I don't need the "perfect" presentation; I don't care about an artist who must spend hours drawing Wolverine's eyelashes. That doesn't matter to me. I'd much rather have single issues than trades, too. I don't care how "nice they look on my self". All that pretense is bogus. Work in the medium and give me a story--that's all I ask.

Give me Igor Kordy guest-pencils, I don't care--at least the book is coming out.

Seriously? I swear I just checked Marvel.com and it still said May 21. Does Marvel need to update it's catalog?

It depends on which page you look at. I found both dates on Marvel.com. Knowing the history of the books I'm going with the 28th.

Don't trust that, Beast taught me well.

The best way to find out is the confirmed shipping list at the start of every week made by Beast in the MU sub forum.
