I'll admit to not being as involved in the new series as the old, but you can't really blame me. I go all the way back to Kids on Degrassi Street, for cryin' out loud! I basically grew up with those kids. It definitely is a plus to see some of those old cast members return, especially Joey and Caitlin. At least most of the new cast actually look like preteens. Reaching the age the original Degrassi kids were supposed to be in high school. I was surprised how young my graduating class and I looked. It's still fun. Glad they're keeping Degrassi alive.

I, too, watched DJH and i regret to say that after seeing old episodes, i wish i hadnt. It's probably amongst some of the most over-rated cult shows ever.
It's part of the "cool cause it's dorky" line lol

This show is definitely one of my guilty pleasures. Has been since The Kids of Degrassi Street days. And you know what? I'm not even that guilty about it.

I've done a lot of travelling in the last few years, to film festivals in the States, Europe and Mexico, and I've met people from all over the world. And one of the first things people want to talk about, as soon as they find out I'm from Canada, is Degrassi. If I'm wearing my Degrassi Junior High t-shirt, I practically have to beat them off with a stick.

People watch and love this show all over the world. It's really bizarre.

Practically every guy I know had a crush on Kaitlin at some point in his life - although some preferred Spike or Lucy. I had a thing for Liz, myself. Everybody knows the lyrics to 'Everybody wants somthing'. Women I know still get excited when they see Pat Mastroiani (Joey) on the street.

I think people like it because it dealt with so many issues that were verbotten on network tv - especially in the context of a teen show: drug abuse, pregnancy, abortion, suicide, AIDS, poverty, sex. Man, that show had it all.

And I've really gotten into the new show. Seems like they realize that they have a large adult audience - lots of references to the old shows. Joey and Kaitlin finally getting together. Wheels showing up when Snake needed him most. Mr. Raditch being principal (how long has that guy been playing the same character? Must be some kind of record).

I think the coolest t-shirt in the world would be one that reads: "I fucked Tessa Campanelli"

Is it just me or has the show been sort of sidelining Emma a lot recently? Then when they do show her she's been quite bitchy.

As for the main plot, I don't know, I've never cared for Marco so I was kind of bored by the whole storyline.

Next week's episode seems to be another Emma getting bitchy show, but this time it is for a good reason. Rick is back...

Degrassi has killed off a character before, Claude, who was Caitlin's boyfriend in Degrassi High committed suicide over their break up.

As Emma's oral fixation, she discovers that the whole thing is going on down at some ravine. The bracelet thing is explained in the episode recap on TV Tome. Apparently Emma has a blue green bracelet which means she'll go with a guy or a girl. (Don't kill the messenger)

The N airs the show in a whack job manner. They skip episodes, edit stuff out and don't air the full season, they air short season runs.

The only way to see the full uncut Canadian TV versions without actually living in Canada is to buy the DVD sets. I've got the first season of The Next Generation and all three of the Degrassi Junior High sets.

Jay has his "way" with Darcy. Spinner and Darcy start making out but then she tells him and then he goes and starts to beat the crap out of Jay. They were at this bible group party thingy... it was a very powerful episode IMO, If I think it is correct.

actually, emma seemed more likely to go lez than ellie...but i can see how paige and alex could hook up...classic opposites attract and such..."death of a disco queen" is a pretty good episode...my favorite like is..."i'm soo..high."

me too...i think they have pretty good chemistry too...that ep. when they smoked weed was pretty good...and lauren collins was very convincing as as a "pothead"...i think the compliment each other well...alex isn't a lemming like hazel and terry and basically won't put up w/ paige's crap and i think that will challenge paige and at the same time, she'll probably treat her better than paige's past boyfriends who were your typical asshats...in the ep. when paige starts working at the theater and spinner comes by and acts like a total dick, alex basically told paige that she didn't know paige to be the kinda chick to take that kind of crap off of a guy...which i thought was pretty cool...it'll be interesting to see what they do.

actually, the marathon has been running them in sequence for the most part...last night was season 4 and i have to say it was pretty good...and you're right, alex needs more face time...as talented as the cast is, deanna casaluce, jake epstein, and lauren collins are best performers, at least that's my opinion...and i'm glad that ashley left town cause she was dead weight, though i hope her portrayer makes it in the music business.

coolness...and it has emma w/ the very *festive* "love" rainbow top, on the cover...i think it really started to cook w/ season 3...and i'm so lovin' paige and lauren collins...the "shout" episodes were really well done, for me, she's easily the strongest actor on the show.
