I did a search and didn't find a previous thread, so sorry if there is one.

A friend just told me about eve-online this morning, and I'm very impressed with the quality of the imaging. From what I've read of the back-story, it shows signs of being culled from other sci-fi, but it looks like it's been done rather well.

I'm wondering if there are any Eve players about, and what your experience in the game is like.

Thanks.

I play it. If you haven't been told already, then let me be the first to tell you that EVE is a soul-crushing, life-sucking, ulcer-creating exercise in cruelty and random senseless violence. You can expect to be persecuted, mocked, and hounded from nearly your first moment in game. Just when things are going great for you and you are starting to make some money and have fun, you will be be arbitrarily murdered by an older player. If you make remonstration, you will likely be mocked mercilessly and perhaps killed several more times, to the great amusement of your enemy and his friends. Most people quit in frustration at this point. (say about two weeks into the game) A few people make a pact with the devil and swear vengeance on their enemies. These few make up EVE's player base.

That being said, the game is ******* awesome. If you've ever wanted to be a super-villain, if you've ever wanted to pilot a machine that runs on the tears of babies, if you've ever wanted to be an amoral CEO of a mega-corporation, if you've ever wanted to crush your enemies and ruin their gaming experience, then EVE might be for you. The world is cold and unforgiving. The penalty for dying is harsh. The learning curve is staggering. The new-player experience can best be described as bleak.
