View Full Version : Opinion of the Deadpool in the latest W:Origins arc?

Personally, this is my favorite Deadpool, and probably one of my favorite characterizations of any character in the last few years.
I'm okay w/ class-clown-turned-super-hero from C&D, but it always felt too gimicky, especially towards the end of the run. It felt like someone gave Robin Williams a gun & he was trying to be funny while killing people, like a dark Spider-man.
This DP just feels like a badass killer that shifts in & out of reality and his humor is just a side effect of his craziness. The best scene in that whole arc was when DP effortlessly changes from silly neighbor trying to get into his house to threatening to stab a guy in the face if he doesn't leave him alone. Priceless.
I think that kind of Deadpool could carry a solo series better than the one from C&D, and even if he couldn't, that's the one that I would rather read. Anyone else agree?

I like it.
Like I said before, it's more of a Joe Kelly type of DP mixed with Way's interpretation than the over the top unfunny Nicieza written stuff (sorry Fabian). Deadpool/Wolverine's personalities contrast so much that it's both entertaining and very visceral, especially when they go at it.
I've also come to grips with Steve Dillon's style on the book and find that it fits well with this type of story, his Deadpool looks cool and he never fails at drawing a pissed off Logan. I even dug the cartoony hallucinations that Deadpool had of Wolverine. I haven't read the last two issues yet but from what I've skimmed through there's a nice psychological conversation between the two.

The last dress down that DP gives Wolvie is worth it. You won't be disappointed.

Decent, Below Fabes, Kelly, Simone and probably Priest. The little Deadpool vision is pretty bad though they'd be better without it. Way gets Wade's fighting ability spot on though, his whole motivation though pretty much ignores Pool's actions since about 97 though so that's irritating. The fact that Way is going to ditch Pool's supporting cast, after he finally got one again is just annoying.
Still not the worst guy to get his hands on pool, though please please please change the artist. Pool is not Freddy Krueger damn it!

I'm not that big of a fan of it. It feels like Way read the Deadpool issue with Doctor Bong in it.

It's definitely the best this wolverine series has ever been. I'm really looking forward to checking out the new deadpool series when it comes out.

I've liked how he's been portrayed in this arc and will definitely give Way's new Deadpool series a shot.

Not totally into it, and using "Deadpool Vision" too much could be a turn off.
But it is entertaining, regardless. I'm waiting to see what kind of stories Way goes with in the series, and what supporting cast or guest stars he goes with. Will DP be soul searching? A hardcore mercenary? Or will he be utterly insane, and just wreaking havoc in anger at the world that he might blame for making him monstrous, even though he's the one at the end of the day who controls his destiny...
That's the whole thing. You have to juggle all of that with the DP humor. He's a fun character to read and right, but if you don't mix those qualities the right way... it gets a bit tough to read.

Pool-o-Vision is a horrible gimmick, and I think as a whole I'd enjoy it a lot more without it being used. Wade's got issues, but he's not a schizophrenic.
I do like how its taken a bit more of a serious look at him, Fabian is awesome but he really only had one or two issues in C&D that really dealt with Deadpool and how he views himself and the world. The rest of it was him playing the prankster to Cable's straight man... which, taken for what it was, was quite funny.
I'm still pissed that Joe Kelly is writing Spidey instead of a new DP ongoing. I demand a guest shot.

Dillon isn't doing the art, Paco Medina is....quoted from CBR's most recent interview w/ Way:
Paco Medina is the artist tasked with bringing to life all the combat and comedy in "Deadpool." "I think Paco brings a lot to the page with both the over the top action stuff and the comedy," Way remarked. "I've already seen that he can pull off those moments. When it comes to hammering home a joke, there's definitely no flies on Paco Medina."

As a fan of Medina's work what issues of this Wolverine: origins do I have to pick up to see his stuff... that and I've recently come to like Deadpool a little more.

I didn't like his take on Deadpool and stopped reading after three issues in the arc... I really hate the pool'o'vision stuff. Hopefully, the characterization will change a bit when he writes him for his series, because Origins Deadpool is supposed to be in the past. I'll be very disapointed if Way throws all of his character growth out the window that he's gotten since the Kelly days. That fact that we're seemingly not going to get Weasel and Bob as regular cast members makes me sad enough...

Medina hasn't drawn Wolverine Origins, Dillon has done it since Issue 1.

eh i could take or leave it, it had it's moments the piano was classic, the "top that coyote" line, not so much
Pool o vision could work if it were dialed back a little maybe make it more like that pro canibalistic chlosterol medicine ad where the people look like food.
