View Full Version : CBRunway Fan Art

This is a bit different than the play along at home thread, and our individual threads seems to spread the fan art around, so I thought it'd be cool to have a thread just for fan art based on the CBRunway characters. I've done a few, but please, everyone is invited to add their's here, too.

Dean...those are all awesome. I really liked the Ocelot and Dorothy.
I only wished I had even a smidge of time to do some fanart on the characters....there have been some great ones that I woulda liked to have tried my hand at drawing.

these are fantastic...i've love watching CBRunway evolve the way it has...the talent pool is insane and every challenge brings some great work...not just artistically, but in every aspect...that's why it's such a treat...and i think this threadis a great testament to that level of talent...

Lollllllllll, I love the Vapid's expression.
Here's Hi-Fi's Coffee Milk in all it's glory.
What is it about Hi-Fi's designs?
I bought myself a nice, aluminum sharpeners and sharpened all the pencils in my messy drawer to the OCD level. "What's this, DULL!? DULL PENCILS IN MY DRAWER! I DON'T SHADE! ASDF"
So now I've got drawing fever, etching up a sketch a plenty (omfg that sentence is disgusting). I was looking through old challenges of this season to try and see who I'd like to draw, and BLAMMO Coffee Milk hit me in the face with a shot of mocha! I love her, lol. It's not a redesign but just fan art.
I like the colors you used on the sleeve; not a literal transition between light brown and dark brown, but a weird blend that's related and then capped off with a stark silver; reminds me of hazelnuts and macademias and all that snap that goes into a coffee, capped off with ice!
Her face and hair really got me, it's so high class Spanish! I feel like her name should be Linda or Laura (La-ora, of course) and she stars on a daytime telenovela when she's not saving Rhode Island from Delicatessen hot chocolates.
It lacks the charm of the original but has all the flavor! LOLOL.

And by the way, it's CBRunway; unless I'm missing something clever.

Haha! Cool! I love it Dazz. Your sketches rock.
Quick question: Do you find yourself intimidated with having to ink your sketches afterwards?
For myself, I'm always nervous to tackle that bit. Thank goodness for being able to scan things in and Photoshoppin' them.

Heehee! Why thank ya! It's the cross-bone boobies. I love it.
I usually LOVE my sketches, and then, yeah, I get super nervous about inking. *sigh* I lose a LOT of life in my drawings in between the sketch stage and the final inks. it's kinda depressing. I've practiced the hell out it, and I just can't seem to catch on to it. (part of that is because I used to ink in a very sketchy style that resembles my actual sketching...then my boyfriend started harping on me that I was inking all wrong and it sucked....that kinda made me really nervous about it. I can't blame it all on him, though...)
The fact is that I have no clue how to ink! Is there some kind of online tutorial that you (or anybody) know of that i could check out?

I'm paying attention to the "I hate to kill my sketches by inking them" conversation. For me, I'm just too impatient to slow down and finish my drawings nicely. I'm all about scritching those ideas down and slapping some color on them and being done and onto the next thing.... sigh...
Dazzler, that's an excellent sketch of the new Mad. Cy. I did some sketches of the original by Hi Fi, but I haven't scanned them yet.

Yup. There's the Art of Comic Book Inking by Gary Martin (Steve Rude's inker - so you can't go wrong there) published by Dark Horse. There were 2 volumes, but it looks like they've been combined into one. Lots of great inking tips, along with examples of different professional inkers working on the same sample page so you can see the different approaches they have regarding their techniques.
Highly recommended....I should go read my copies again...if I can find the time to do so...

I think that may be a lot of my problem too! I just want to get it done and out. Sadly, the way my life has been going the last couple of years, I tend to look at drawing as a luxury that's almost a gratuitous waste of time, so I feel almost guilty spending too much time on it. The next time I have to ink something, I think I'm going to keep that in mind and slow down a LOT.
Dazzler, that's an excellent sketch of the new Mad. Cy. I did some sketches of the original by Hi Fi, but I haven't scanned them yet.

I love the design for her, kinda fun, kinda light-hearted, but definitely NOT a good guy. I've been wanting to do fan art for some of the other entries, but, like I said, I don't get a lot of time to draw nowadays. *sigh*

Thanks escapegoat! I know exactly the book you're talking about (it's got Nexus on the cover, i believe....). I think when I get paid next, I might just pick up a copy and seriously, seriously try to improve my inking. If I remember correctly, that book covers a lot of great territory. I looked at some online tutorials tonight, and picked up some other tips to try out. Who knows, I may get the hang of it yet.

I think I'm going to do a sketch of Ellie Dee with her natural hair and less make-up and take out the blue contacts. I bet she'll be pretty!

Well, maybe not "pretty" but certainly less extreme!

Glad you like it.
Obviously, your design made me think. It was cool to discuss it with you and it inspired me to sketch. Thanks for that!

I quite liked Escapegoat's Belinda Carlisle design, so I did a version. Hopefully I made her boobs big enough!

It tickles me pink when I see someone else draw up one of my designs....Thx!

I have a few sketches from the songbird challenge to scan still. I'm sure I'll be doing fan art from the Chinese astrology one, too. Lots of great material there.

I suppose this one is more of a "play along at home" rather than fan art piece, but here's an idea for Lew's challenge in the Kitsch challenge.
Her colander headdress enables her to "strain" the life essence from her victims, leaving just a dried out husk of a carcass. I don't know her origin.

I think Jaye asked about this thread, so I thought I'd bump it. I guess since the first couple of challenges had to do with existing characters, I personally wasn't inspired to do fan art of any of the designs, but I'm feeling pretty interested in drawing some of the flower characters....

It would work well in there, or in a crossover with Dudley Do-right.
