Yup - another subgenre that has obsessed me a little bit lately. See my blog entry from last week:

Don't Tread On Me Covers (http://seductionoftheindifferent.blogspot.com/2008/04/dont-tread-on-me-covers.html)

Basically, I'm looking for any covers where someone is about to enjoy an Off-Off-Off-Broadway production of 'Stomp'.

Here are a couple more:

Anyone know of some other good examples?

First one I thought of ...

And now I see why I misremembered this one as being from the JLI --

And then there's the lastest (&, alas, newly cancelled) version of the character --

Anyway, it's Ogden Whitney, and that's reason enough for posting it.

This is the first one that popped into my head...

.. and I thought for sure Kimosabe would have grabbed it immediately.

A slight variant in that the foe doing the stomping isn't giant-sized:

Interesting that Doll Man doesn't have one (at least none at comics.org).

I'm not sure if this is a foot or a hand:

I thought this was a well drawn cover:

I'm not sure if this is a foot or a hand:

I think it's a hand -- it appears to be attached to the fiery scaly dude in the background.

EDIT: Wait, no, I guess it belongs to a different creature. It still looks more like a hand, though.

However, if the owner of the limb in question wanted to argue that it was a foot rather than a hand, I would not be inclined to disagree.

I just love the tag line... didn't this run just before Spider-Man shows up next issue and then the mag was cancelled? I guess respecting their intelligence just didn't work, eh?

Since a noticeable subset of this thread involves a moving Sphinx, I thought I should include this one about to pounce.

(Maybe for half-credit. )

Sphinx covers are a whole different subgenre I'll be blogging about soon.

You'd be amazed at how many times the Sphinx has been used.

Edit: Didn't see someone had mentioned the sphinx theme above. Still, the titles are also very similar.

Wow! A very delayed doubled post. That's the last time I tell Firefox to restore previous page settings when I power back up my laptop.
