This has nothing to do with the current book, which I'm behind on, or the new Judd Titans, which I haven't read yet, so don't read anything into this.
But MAN ALIVE am I loving two new Titans books!
First, Amy Wolfram and Karl Kerschel's great, great, great TITANS: YEAR ONE. This book is so delightful! It captures a lot of things effortlessly that other comics TALK about doing--appealing to a wide age group, being charming AND dramatic AND funny...I just love it. I think it's one of the best things DC is publishing.
If DC is smart, they will grab Ms. Wolfram to write more comics IMMEDIATELY.
The other is Tiny Titans. Now, this should have been right up my alley from the start, but I didn't get a copy until a couple days ago.
THIS BOOK IS GREAT. I just love it. It's adorable and the gags are actually funny, and the art is just perfect. A GREAT book to give young readers, but I'm definitely going to keep my copies for my own self.
Great stuff from Art Baltazar (writer and artist) with co-writer Franco.
Great, great Titans books!

I haven't picked up Tiny Titans, but I want to. I met Art Baltazar at the Con, he drew a Wonder Woman pic for my daughter.

I agree. This mini has been a really nice surprise.

The only problem I have with the Titans:Year One book is that it's just so short. I breeze through the dialogue like it's nothing. I think it's a great fun book, and I love Kerschels art sooo much, I just wish there was a bit more bulk in the dialogue.

Wow. When you wrote Titans books I thought you meant those British books that reprint US super-hero comics. :)
Let me second the endorsement of these two books. They are family favorites at my household, getting multiple readings from multiple people.
I just got my Free Comic Book Day copies yesterday; I order extras for my nephew and niece.

Yup, diggin' on 'em both, too.
"Year One" is pretty neat because it has that old Titan "family" feel to it, rather than just a team feel.
And "Tiny Titans" is just adorable, silly fun.

Just asking.

Agreed. Wolfram needs to be writing this stuff regularly.... it's wonderful. And Tiny Titans..... it just keeps getting better. I really feel like this last issue was a huge leap forward, and it's only getting better.
I mean, Robin in a child safety seat in the back seat of the Batmobile? Just precious!

Both are great books.
Art drew a very cool sketch of non-slutty Supergirl for my daughter.

I'm not going to be liked for saying this, but isn't this the same Tiny Titans Yabs was creeped out about for having Dr. Light, Trigon, and Deathstroke as teachers?

I keep kicking myself for not picking up Tiny Titans. I figured I would wait for the reviews of Teen Titans: Year One and get the trade if they were good. Now I can't wait for the trade.

I don't think we, like, passed a resolution on it.

What makes Titans Year One so great is that it does a wonderful job of making the Titans feel human. Their responses and interactions based on their mentors, each other and the situations in the mini feel very real. It's one of the reasons the Wolfman/Perez run was so beloved. Some of the best Titans stories that have been written after that era are by writers who understand that important component. With Titans Year One, you feel like you can hang out with these kids and that is easily the most honest compliment I could give the book.
If you have any plans to hit the con scene this year and Art and Franco are present, do yourself a major favor and say hello. My favorite creators are the ones that you can tell are fans of the industry. They are proud to be a part of it. These guys are just having a blast. It comes across on the pages of Tiny Titans. The characters are charming and accessible, while having some very cool "inside" jokes for long time Titans fans. I hope this series is traded because I think it would do really well on the school book club market. Actually, the same could easily be said for Titan's Year One.
Just a quick side note: My kids at school are passing around Art and Franco's Partick the Wolf Boy collections that I purchased in NY, the new color versions of Jeff Smith's Bone and a Simpson's collection, featuring the work of Gail Simone. The Simpson's collection and Bone were both purchased at our Book Fair. We also have quite a few collections in our school library. There is plenty of material out there for kids. The trick at this stage is just fining creative ways to get it in their hands to build an audience beyond those whose parents are comic fans.
Anyways, sorry for the long post. Just geeking out over the recommendations for Tiny Titans and Titans: Year One. Both are very fun reads.
