Kirk's art is looking pretty good. I wasn't sold on his being the artist for this book, so it is nice to see that he may just be a good fit.

It's so good to see these images coloured now. I have total confidence of this working. It's just so good to see a decent artist being put on this title, after all those New Excalibur fill in runs...

I'm going to assume that's Faisa Hussain in the middle images?

I'm not a huge Black Knight fan (re: at all!), but I like this new design. Was going to give this a shot, anyway, but now I'm extra-interested.

I think she's Faisa Hussain. She's a doctor, right? Think she's gonna be an interesting character.
Good the see Captain Britain again. Nice design for Black Knight.
Very nice art.. I'll probably pick this up..

I think there's a good balance of cast, on this one. From the interviews that Cornell has been doing it genuinely sounds like this one has been incredibly well thought through.

Makes a change, doesn't it?

Some of that artwork is up on Marvel.com, as well as a full colour picture of John the Skull 'clapped in hi-tech irons'.

It is great to see a decent artist on 'Excalibur' again... All the fill in art teams on NEX really got up my nose, ditto the original Excalibur towards the end.

Anyhoo, i think that probably is Faisa in those panels you mentioned...

It's not really a redesign, so much as it's Dane in 'civvies'. When SI kicks off in Britain Dane will be based at his ancestral home (Garrett Castle) but not AT home. He'll be riding cross-country on his bike, when the crazyness begins. And heavy steel plate armour is not what you NEED in that scenario...

Although don't take that as an indicator of replacing his steed. Admittedly one steed was recently 'eaten' in an issue of Punisher War Journal, but Cornell has said Strider will be making an appearance a few issues down the line.

so have all the team members been announced?

Not quite.

The cast at present are Captain Britain, Pete Wisdom, Spitfire, John the Skrull, Faisa Hussain, and a back up of Tink and Captain Midlands (From the wisdom mini).

One further cast member will be joining after/at the end of the first arc. Cornell and Lowe have been a bit cryptic about this. All we know is that they are a big name British character, they've never been a member of Excalibur, and that many people WON'T instantly think of them as being British.

Make of that what you will...

I don't read PWJ, but Dane's armor was not normal steel armor. It was mystical steel armor that he required (along with a brand new sword, jousting speer, and flying horse) way back in the first HEROES FOR HIRE series. This is something that many writers seem to have either forgotten or completely ignored.

As for him riding the less then impressive and oh so cliche motorcycle, I think it is a stupid idea that smacks as another attempt to make a superhero character more "realistic" and "KEWL". This is a friggan superhero comic that is not restrained by a budget, take advantage of it. Dane is a superhero with both mystical and advanced tech weapons and equipment, not a refugee from the early 1980's movie KNIGHT RIDERS (I think that was the name of that movie).

Cornell has made it clear that as far as this book is concerned the focus will be on continuing with the ebony blade, rather than the light weapons, following on from where Dane was last time we saw him in New Excalibur. He comments would suggest to me that this is where editors might want him to be, right now, and as it's almost been ten years since any reference was made to the work done on Heroes for Hire it may now be considered that there is too much water under the bridge to go trying to dig up something which all of his more recent appearances have completely ignored.

However, some explanations will be offered, such as where Strider has been all this time. But the key focus will remain on the weight of Dane's shoulders of being ancestral line guardian of a blade of pure evil.

It's not as if he's being turned into some kind of Ghost Rider clone here! This is just a way to physically convey that at this point Dane is a civilian and not a member of a team. He's still the Black Knight, but may be having some issues of his own right now, which he is trying to work out. Then he finds a Skrull Invasion on his doorstep, and has to immediately get involved with that.

He's not entirely discarding the armour, but he certainly won't have it with him during the first arc. It's at home. He's not.

Well, they are street clothes... Don't write him off just yet ;)

Seriously, I'm really happy to have Dane back, too. I know that a lot of American readers never got to see the Captain Britain/Black Knight stories of the early 80s, but the two are firm and established friends. In fact, at present, Dane is probably Brian's oldest friend around. This is the perfect place for him.

Don't get me wrong, I have no problem accepting Dane's "less then impressive" new look. I just prefer his HFH costume to his non costume look in CB&MI-13. I also prefer his light weapons to his Ebony blade (which I also like). In any case, I have seen a heck of a lot more worse/harmful things happen to characters then what is being done to Dane in MI-13.

I liked his H4H/Busiek Avengers era equipment as well.

It's too bad nobody wants to use them, I liked the sword of light and shield of night better than the ebony blade which became overused (especially the blood curse thing) and already causes continuity head aches. I will admit that it's more iconic as a weapon and it has cool mystic properties but his other weapons pretty much did the same damn thing and perhaps even more.

Well, that depends... I mean it's certainly not the first time Spitfire has been connected to vampires. I mean the woman's a blood relation of British Nazi vampire Baron Blood, who made her a vampire - only to have her condition later cured by a blood transfusion from the (Original) Human Torch.

The question would be, though, whatever could prompte her to BE a vampire again...?

He has, although Cornell did say that the final member WAS British, but many people wouldn't instantly associate him with BEING British - Which I'd say points more to Blade than it does to Joey. Or Ka-Zar?

That's a great call too.

I could easily see the events of SI somehow forcing Kevin Plundarr out of the Savage Land given all that's going on there at the moment!
