What is it?

I have not played any of the game boy ones but I loved Ocarina. I recently turned Twilight back on the other day. I have enjoyed that game, not better then Ocarina.

What do you all think?

Sorry if we've done this before. I haven't seen it or don't recall it.

Last one I played was the gamecube one on Wii, which I did not bother to finish. Ocarina was just not my thing - the very small world put me off a little.

My all-time favorite is Link to the Past, followed by the original. Both games were LONG, both had some puzzle elements but were largely action games, and both had lots and lots of secrets to explore.

It's the original NES Legend of Zelda, all the way. Opening that box up to see a golden cartridge was only the beginning of the magic.

You still have the gold cartridge. The used game store in my town is trying to sell theirs for 100 bucks. I don't think it will go for that but it does have some value...

I wish I'd never given my golden Ocarana (I can never spell that) and Majoras to a friend.

They're trying to sell the original golden Zelda for $100? That's just stupid... I saw it at Gamestop a couple years ago for around $5-10.

My two favorites are Ocarina of Time and Twilight Princess. Both are incredible, epic adventure games.

OoT has a slightly better dificulty level, it's more of a challenge, and TP has the better story.

Thing is, all the games since OoT have just been OoT, but tweaked. Graphical tweaks, minor gameplay tweaks, but there's been nothing revolutionary, or even very evolutionary, since OoT.

This is a hard question for me to answer. Logically, Twilight Princess seems like the clearest choice, though at the same time I like the flawed Wind Waker better. The original Zelda is closest to my heart, but seriously, you can't even walk diagonally in that game. So I guess my answer is it depends.

That doesn't make it the best game. In fact, I think Ocarina has aged poorly. The controls are clunky compared to Wind Waker and Twilight Princess, to say nothing of the graphics and sound.

Of all the Zelda games I have played, I find that I don't particularly have one favourite. I enjoy them all for different reasons:

Twilight Princess: Yes, I am one of those people who really like the "realistic" look and I thought that, aside from Link, who looked more or less as he always does, Twilight Princess had a lot of fresh visual ideas to it. It is IMHO, the best looking of the Zelda games so far. Oh, and if you absolutely insist on giving Link a "helper" character, then I definitley prefer Midna to Navi or any other fairy he has ever been paired with. :)

Link to the Past: Still has a special place in my heart, I'm even debating right now whether to get it on the VC or on the DS (the GBA cart anyway) so I can play it again because I haven't played it in over ten years. Has the most memorable story of any of the Zelda games I have actually played, but that could be because when I was younger I played that game dozens of times over and over again.

The original Legend of Zelda game: I really enjoyed this one because you had the most "freedom" of any Zelda game to just go off and explore. None of this "we're blocking your path with a construction crew to herd you towards the appropriate dungeon" nonsense. They just drop you in the middle of nowhere and you figure out the rest yourself.

Ocarina of Time: Hardest Zelda game I have encountered so far. Which is probably why I haven't finished it. That and the fact that I have a crappy GC controller that won't let me control Link very well. Maybe I should try it on the VC with the classic controller. I wish Nintendo was still making GC controllers.

Btw, I've at least tried all of the main console Zelda games, and quite a few of the handhelds. I'm slowly catching up after 10+ years of being away from gaming.

Hmm. *scratches chin* This is obviously a very difficult choice. I mean, all the Zelda games have their individual tributes, so the qualifiers are varied. Best story? Best gameplay? Best graphics?

I'll start with the easiest. Artistically, Wind Waker is the best. I don't really think I need to explain this. Wind Waker also had the best boss battle. Come on, how can you beat Ganon laughing in disbelief as the ocean is coming down around him?

Best gameplay would be Twilight Princess. Again, no surprise there. It the latest console Zelda, so it represents the Zelda gameplay at its most refined.

I'll give Phantom Hourglass the award of most innovative. It completely eschews the traditional controls for a one-touch stylus approach, and it WORKED.

For best story, there's no debate here for me. Link's Awakening. What other Zelda had such a bittersweet ending? Link's success essentially meant the end of the world for the inhabitants of Koholint.

Finally, A Link to the Past had the best soundtrack. Every note, from the opening to the end credits, was a joy to listen to.

Phantom Hourglass here. How can the DS version compete you ask? Try it, it's effing awesome.

Ocarine of Time is pretty easy.

My top three Zelda games are of the darker variety:

1. Link to the Past
2. Twilight Princess
3. Zelda II: Link's Adventure

No ones brought in Four Swords, i finished it for my friend... it was, different?

I've always had a thing for Majoras Mask, something about the design and plot of it really grabs my attention.

I couldn't finish it. Doing that same friggin' dungeon, trying to shave every second off my time, was too stressful.

I gave up on Majora's mask a few months ago. Something about the three day time limit just irks me. I like to explore the world the game is taking place in at my own leisure, not have to rush through it. I know I can always save as many times as I want and just reset the clock, but still, I hate being halfway through a dungeon, having passed the most difficult part, and then the timer runs out.

Yeah i know what you mean, but play the Song of Time backwards, that gives you a lot longer to be able to do stuff.

You know I never had a problem with running out of time in Majora's Mask. I also really loved the story. Someone said how since Ocarina nothing has changed. I would say MAjora's Mask really breaks that idea. It was so different. I personally loved it. The time factor just added a whole different scenario to the game. I've also never been a huge fan of wondering aimlessly so maybe thats why.

I can't wait for it to come to the virtual console.

My favorite was A Link to the Past (SNES)

It's also Oracle of Ages and Seasons for game boy color. If you have a game boy advance (sorry, won't fit on DS :frown:) it'll unlock a secrete store for each game. Pretty cool.

I wish I'd never given my golden Ocarana (I can never spell that) and Majoras to a friend.

There was only the gold version on nes and out of the hundreds on ebay they go for between 0 and 10 bucks. The gold ocarina on pretendo 64 is going for 7 and 20 bucks.

But the original on nes was the best. It had cool level designs, awesome and memorable music especially considering the sound abilities of the nes, great graphics in its time, basic characters and storyline that seemed to have a life their own, interesting puzzles, hidden stuff and was just a perfect balance of action/rpg/adventure that few games ever get.

A link to the past is a close second.

And thats about all of them, ever since they hit the n64 they got worse and worse as they went. Trading all the core ideas of the others for better graphics and bigger adventures, they tried way to hard to update to appeal to new audiences and lost the simplistic things that made the original ones so good.

The new one on the DS is pretty damn good but using the stylus to move really sucks.

I thought the way they used the stylus was ingenious.

The best Zelda game is called Alundra.

Seriously, though, Wind Waker is my favorite so far (haven't play TP or PH yet). LTTP and OOT haven't aged well at all in my opinion.

I'm all about the classic Legend of Zelda first. To this day I get the craving to play that golden gem. Not far behind is A Link to the Past.

I feel just the opposite, oddly. I never think about going back to play ALTTP. I'd rather play any of the many games that've been made since, including Oracle, Minish Cap or even the original (or the afore-mentioned Alundra). Mostly I just hate the dark world. I've never played a game that had a "dark world" where the dark world was fun to play in (except, again, for Alundra--just buy it already) which is why I've held off on TP this long.

Ok my curiosity is piqued....I looked up this Alundra on Wikipedia since I had never heard of it before...and it just so happens that I have a PS1 gathering dust in my closet that I was going to sell at a garage sale someday.....now I may just have to dust that sucker off and hook it up and hope it and my Wii can be friends.

As if I don't already have more games than time....

I should warn you beforehand--this game is no picnic. The puzzles are merciless. It's one of the hardest I've ever played--but also one of the best.

It's easy to say that, like all CD-i games, the three for that were the worst ever.

To me, it's gotta be Phantom Hourglass in terms of the system and what you can do with it.

My favorite is wind waker. I love the atmosphere and look of the game. I love how when you attack enemies there's musical chimes. Before recently replaying wind waker majora's mask was my favorite. I think Twilight princess may be technically better but Majora's mask and wind waker fell like they have more heart and they don't follow the same formula as the other zelda games.

Twilight Princess is a more polished game overall but in ten years people will remember Wind Waker more fondly and discover that it has aged better.
