The red haired lass known as Rahne (prounounced like "rain") Sinclair was born in her native land of Scotland. The child would become a ward of the churn as she had no one to care for her. While there she was under the fanatical, religious, strict fundamentalist Reverend Craig. Unknown to all, even Rahne, Reverend Craig was actually her biological father and her mother was a prostitute. Craig would raise Rahne in a very strict religous way as a Christian with strict Presbyterian teachings and treated her harshly all of the time. Never would he forget to give the young girl a healthy dose of guilt and extreme critizism on a daily basis.

At the age of 14, Rahne would would have both the best and worst thing possible happen to her in her ,still, short life. It would be the emergence of her mutant powers of lycanthrope, the ability to tranform to and from a wolf. The best because these powers would make her a mutant. This would result in her meeting people would would truly care for her and accept her for who she was. Worst, because Rev. Craig would find out and would take actions against her. He would gather together a large group of his religous fanatical followers and form a mob intent on caputuring Rahne Her fate all but sealed, still running Rahne chanced upon one of the villagers name Moira MacTaggert, coincidently the doctor that delivered her 14 years prior From that point on Rahne would consider Moira as her mother and the same in reverse from Moira MacTaggert. Moira ended up legally adopting Rahne and brought her to her research facilities on Muir Island where she would continue to raise her.

Although Rahne was now in a much better place and cared for properly, she was still quite far from normal. As a result of 14 years being raised by Reverend Craig she was very much mentally affected. She was already a very shy, soft spoken and an insecure girl by nature. She, too, grew to become emotionally repressed, self loathing and became very guilty during any times of happiness When in wolf form, Rahne felt emotions of pure joy, freeness and happiness. Though most would openly accept this Rahne would not. Rahne attended the Xavier Institute and became part of his team, the New Mutants.. It would be here that she would get her codename, Wolfsbane. While apart of the New Mutant, Rahne would befriend, create and grow many life long friendship with most all her team mates. Most notable would be those of Danielle Moonstar, Samuel Gutherie, Warlock, Doug Ramsay and Julio Richtor. Though she would encounter plently of wonderful things, the bad was never to far behind. The first of which was the death of one of her closest friends Doug Ramsay better known as Cypher. Making matters worse she had began to have feeling for her.
During one of the many adventures that the New Mutants went on they would find that Bird Brain came from an island were an evil scientist name the Ani-Mator experiemented on animals and gave them human like characteristics. Once there the team would get caught in a fever pitch war pitting them against the Ani-Mator. Near the end of the battle he would draw a gun and aim for Wolfsbane, intent on killing her. He would have been successful except for the fact the Cypher would jump in the way taking the bullet and sustaining a mortal injury. Wolfsbane would run to his side and craddle him until he died.

Wolfsbane's time with the New Mutants would columnate and end with the the events that would be known as the X-Tinction Agenda. All mutants, especially those that wore the "X" were targeted by one, Cameron Hodge. Once and ally of X-Factor, he now wished to kill them. His initial attack would have Wolfsbane, among others, captured and brought back to his base on Genosha. It was here that his Genoshan scientists and geneticists would experiement on mutants and have them placed in suit that would aid in their controlling them. Wolfsbane would be no exception. They experiemented on her multiple times first psychically bonded her to one of their soldiers them into her suit. Numerous more manipulations to Rahne would have her only respond to her new name, Mutate #490. Once done she was a loyal servent of Hodge's. Along with her, Warlock, one of her friends was also captured and experimented on aswell. After numerous battles the multiple teams of X-Men finally began to see the tides turn their way. The once controlled Wolfsbane who fought against all of her teammates and friends would also be saved, freed from her mind control. Sadly what followed would be yet another death of one of Wolfsbanes friends, this time Warlock. Furious, a berzerker rage took over and Wolfsbane went off separatly seeking Hodge. All of Hodge's experiments on Rahne had an unexpected effect. When she morphed she accessed her "absolute" form. Hulking in size and a strength to match. She would find Hodge and rip him to shreds, destroying him and putting an end to his war against mutants. When all was done, she realized that she was more changed then expected, mentally and physically. She was not able to morph back to her human form anymore, which meant she stayed nearly all the time in a transitional form. It was also later revealed that the soldier she was psychically bound to was none other then Alex Summers, Havok. Due to the many changes that she was going through, she would decide not to return with the New Mutants, but stay and sort things out. In the following days she would follow Havok everywhere, not cause she wanted to but because her mentel connection made it impossible not too. So, when the United States government wished to recreate X-Factor as a government sanctioned team with Havok as the leader, Wolfsbane membership soon followed.

Wolfsbane then became a part of many other teams, and as of now is part of the X-men black ops team X-force, due to Reverand Craig’s involvement with the Purifiers.

13. Sunspot (56 Points) - TIE

Roberto da Costa came from a rich family in Brazil. He was also a very skilled soccer player with a promising future until the day his mutant powers manifested. During a game, he was taunted by a player on the opposing team and ended up beating the player down.

He was shunned by everyone around him but did attract the attention of Donald Pierce, a member of the inner circle of the Hellfire Club. Pierce tried to kidnap da Costa but Charles Xavier and his team, the New Mutants, stopped Pierce. Xavier then invited da Costa to join the team and attend his school to learn more about his powers.

He took the name Sunspot and experienced several adventures with them. When he accidentally injured teammate, Sam Guthrie, Cannonball, Sunspot left the New Mutants. Another teammate, Warlock, followed him and the two met up with the group, the Fallen Angels (which included the mutants Multiple Man and Siryn).
Later he was contacted by mutant businessman, Gideon after his father died. Gideon persuaded Sunspot into joining him claiming to help him manage the family fortune. Gideon was actually a member of a group of mutants known as the Externals who believed themselves to be immortal. Gideon believed that Sunspot was also an External but after several harsh tests and experiments Gideon was proven wrong.

He was saved by his former teammates of the New Mutants that had reformed as X-Force. Sunspot joined the team. When Gideon experimented on Sunspot, he was able to copy his powers and give them to a test subject. The result was Reignfire.
Reignfire became the leader of the Mutant Liberation Front, a mutant terrorist group. Reignfire gave hints that he was really Sunspot. X-Force's leader, Cable, telepathically restored Sunspot's memories. It turned out that Reignfire actually switched places with Sunspot through a telepathic link. Sunspot finally regained control.

Sunspot was later blackmailed by the Black Queen of the Hellfire Club into joining. She really wanted his help in stopping a foundation fun by Gideon. Sunspot also became the head of the Los Angeles branch of X-Corporation, a search and rescue organization for mutants.

At the beginning of the Young X-Men series, Sunspot was revealed to be the new leader of the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants. He is joined on the team by his former New Mutants comrades Cannonball, Danielle Moonstar, and Magma.

Hisako Ichiki is a young girl whose greatest aspiration is one day to be an X-Man. Hisako was one of the students without an official squad before M-Day. However, she may have been a part of Iceman's Squad, Excelsiors, or Beast's Squad, Exemplars, both of which never had officially listed students.

Along with her friend and fellow student, Wing (whom, after his death, she later describes as being her best friend), Hisako is attacked in the halls of the Xavier Institute by the alien villain Ord of the Breakworld. Hisako and Wing attempt to oppose Ord, but are overpowered. While both teenagers survive the attack, Wing discovers that he has been injected with a "cure" for his mutant ability of flight. Despondent, he commits suicide after some goading from a Danger Room hologram of her. In the wake of this tragedy, Hisako, her teacher Kitty Pryde, and several Xavier students find themselves trapped in a sentient and hostile Danger Room with Wing's reanimated corpse. Danger, as the intelligence is named by the X-Men, eventually leaves the Institute.

Hisako then fought appeared alongside the New X-Men during a fight with the Acolytes.

Hisako finds classmate Blindfold "crying". While trying to comfort Blindfold, Blindfold tries to convince Hisako that they are soon "to lose another one," as Wolverine, believing he is a defenseless child due to the manipulations of Cassandra Nova, barges into the restroom, followed closely by the feral Beast. Beast attacks Blindfold, but Hisako uses her powers to fight off Beast before landing the coup de grace with a large blast of psionic energy from her psi-body armor. Exhausting herself, she faints. Blindfold and Hisako make their way through the Institute. Blindfold tells Hisako that someone is awake in the infirmary; they find the unconscious bodies of Colossus and Cyclops Soon afterwards, Shadowcat rises through the floor and asks the girls to explain everything they know.

Soon after, both Ord and Danger attack the mansion, where they are confronted by Hisako and then Wolverine where the young girl holds her own only to end up wounded by Wolverine's claws. Although she only receives minor injuries, things do not get any better when Cassandra Nova chooses Hisako to be her new host body. It is left unknown if Cassandra was successful in getting Emma Frost to transfer her consciousness into Hisako, as S.W.O.R.D. beams the team, Danger, Ord, and Hisako into a spaceship headed for the Breakworld.

The team and Hisako find that S.W.O.R.D. have abducted the X-Men and Hisako because they need heroes to fight a threat: Breakworld has a weapon capable of destroying the Earth. After flying through space, Ord sends the ship's coordinates to Breakworld's ruler, and he sends a fleet to attack the ship. When the attack is over, the ship is heavily damaged and the X-Men are separated. Hisako ends up with Wolverine. Hisako is given membership to the X-Men and Shadowcat's uniform. After commenting on how she had a test that week, Wolverine tells her that she is an X-Man now, and she is there to save the world. She picks the codename Armor, which Logan said would be like calling himself "Claws." As the groups gather, they confuse her by calling everyone by their first names instead of their codenames.

During Messiah Complex, some of the New X-Men launch a pre-emptive strike against the Purifiers. Hisako joins them and while spying on the Purifers, she is impressed by X-23’s senses. After breaking into the Washington base and getting into a brief tussle with the Purifers they are ambushed by the Reavers, who mortally wound Hellion. Pixie manages to teleport the team out and are spread between Washington and the Institute.

Hisako was brought back to the mansion by Iceman with the other New X-Men. When Predator X showed up at the mansion, Hisako teamed up with Gentle and battled it in the infirmary. Pixie believes X-23 can defeat the monster and teleports it and the entire team, along with Hisako, to the battle between the Marauders and the X-Teams taking place on Muir Island.

Hisako currently is with the Astonishing X-men in San Francisco.

I disagree.

I think unlike Wolfcub and Trance and other who I could understand this argument against.. Hisako has actually managed to have a lot of development. Personality wise we do have a pretty good idea who she is, and she, along with Blindfold were kinda vital to the Torn arc in Astonishing X-men. She was also with the New X-men in MC and against the Acolytes. And the points here are kinda low anyways. Besides she's fairly fresh in the voters minds. So at the moment she might be more of a favorite to lots than say.. Husk or Synch who are not in books.


I think Sunspot suffers from not being in a book currently, which is why he's not ranked higher.

Kitty was born in Deerfield, Illinois. When she was 13 years old she began getting headaches which were the result of her mutant powers starting to manifest. Both the Hellfire Club and Professor X pursued Kitty to get her to join their cause. Kitty did not like Emma Frost or her attitude which made Kitty feel uncomfortable around her. It was an easy decision for Kitty to go with Xavier and the few X-Men accompanying him. One of the X-Men was in that group was Storm, and they quickly became friends. Storm told Kitty about herself and about what the X-Men fought for.
The X-Men were abruptly attacked by mercenaries sent by Emma Frost. The X-Men battled them and defeated them easily, but Emma used her telepathy to freeze everyone. Kitty was able to slip away during the confusion and was able to contact Cyclops, Jean Grey, and Nightcrawler. They arrived soon after and Kitty helped them rescue the captured X-Men.

Kitty began dating Colossus but their relationship wouldn't last long. Colossus developed feelings for an alien named Zsaji who he met during the Secret Wars. At first he thought the feelings were due to the side-effects of her healing powers but when he returned to Earth, he realized that his feelings were true and he started to grieve since she had died. He confessed to Kitty that he had not been faithful and cheated on her with Zsaji, this ultimately ended their relationship.


During the Mutant Massacre Kitty was badly injured by Harpoon. Her injury made her become intangible and she was rushed to Muir Island to be treated by Dr. Moira MacTaggert. Moria was able to stop her from losing physical substance which would have made her cease to exist, but was not able to do more. Kitty was still intangible and had to make an extreme effort of concentration to become solid. At first they went to Reed Richards (Mr. Fantastic) for help but he declined claiming that he did not know what he could do for her. The X-Men turned to Doctor Doom and it angered the Fantastic Four. The Fantastic Four then tried to stop Dr. Doom from treating Kitty and they battled the X-Men. Franklin Richards stopped the 2 teams from fighting and made everyone come to their senses. Reed Richards saw the error of his ways and decided to help Kitty, saving her life.

During a fight with Adversary (Kitty was not present), the X-Men made a sacrificing move to defeat the Adversary. This was televised live and it showed the X-Men being killed while defeating Adversary. They were later resurrected and decided to keep a low profile so they could have the advantage on their enemies. This meant they could not contact friends, family, or even Kitty. She left and helped form the team Excalibur. Later, Colossus regained his feelings for her and went to England to get her back. Unfortunately, Kitty was with someone else at that time, namely Pete Wisdom. It took a while, but he accepted it and joined Excalibur. The team eventually disbanded and Kitty returned to America to rejoin the X-Men.

Even with Cyclops and Emma now being co-headmasters of the school, Kitty decided to rejoin the X-Men. She still hated Emma for what happened in the past, but Emma claimed that this was the reason she chose Kitty to be on the Astonishing team. Because if Emma decided to return to her evil roots, the person that trusts her the least would be the one to notice first. On a mission, Kitty discovers that Colossus is still alive. There was a brief moment of awkwardness, but everything turned out fine and they resumed their relationship. They also finally made love for the first time.

During the crisis with the Hellfire Club, Kitty did exactly what Emma thought she would do. Kitty beat Emma and trapped her deep underground. Then Kitty was caught under a telepathic spell by Emma's evil version called Perfection. It gave Kitty the illusion that she and Colossus had a baby and the X-Men were taking it away to kill it because it was too dangerous. She was eventually lead to a box somewhere inside the school, she phased through it an took it out thinking it was her baby. Still not knowing anything, she actually freed an alien entity that contained Cassandra Nova's consciousness. Nova jumped over into Emma's mind and Emma manipulated Kitty into trying to shoot her to kill Nova. Kitty refuses to kill her and Nova then tries to leap into one of the students. Everything was then interrupted by SWORD and teleported to Breakworld.

Kitty is currently in a bullet. LOL.

Megan Gwynn is a Welsh teenager who attends the Xavier Institute for mutants. Her mutant powers activated after an accident with her bicycle in the road nearly hitting car. She got a scholarship to attend the Xavier Institute of Higher Learning. After enrolling at the Institute, Gwynn was assigned to the Paragons training squad under the tutelage of former New Mutant, Rahne Sinclair, Wolfsbane. When it was revealed that Sinclair had been in a romantic relationship with a student, Josh Foley, she left the school, and was replaced by her former teammate, Magma.
Gwynn as proven herself to be an amiable and cheerful student, and she fit in well with her squad. Following the events of House of M, almost all of the Institute's students were de-powered, leading to the dissolution of the school's training squads. Gwynn is one of only 27 student, along with her fellow former Paragons, Trance, Wolf Cub, and Match, to have retained her mutant abilities. Shortly after that 42 of Gwynn's former classmates were killed when a bus carrying several de-powered students was shot with a rocket launcher by William Stryker's Purifiers. Among the confirmed deaths was Gywnn's fellow Paragon, DJ.


She was one of the young mutants taken into Limbo by Belasco. She and several other students were rescued by Illyana Rasputin. Illyana selected Pixie as an innocent soul from which to create a new soulsword. The process was interrupted by Anole, and the end result was Megan holding a small soul dagger, since only a small portion of her soul was transfered and replaced with black magic. She would later use that dagger to incapacitate and seriously weaken Belasco, allowing Illyana to finish him off.

Some time after they had returned to Earth, Rockslide informed her and Anole that they were now the official members of the New X-Men. She later mentions that Doctor Strange was willing to teach her more spells once she turned 18, but only if she took a vow of silence (perhaps an indirect way of stating that she talked too much). An examination by Amanda Sefton and Doctor Strange indicated that despite the loss of a fifth of her soul, she had "plenty of soul to spare."

Upon returning from Limbo, Pixie joins X-23, Hellion, Anole, Surge, Armor and Rockslide in attacking the Washington DC base of the Purifiers by teleporting them there. They are opposed by Lady Deathstrike and the Reavers. When Hellion is injured and the Reavers are about to attack, Pixie panics and cannot teleport the team out until Rictor, who infiltrated the Purifiers as a spy, tells her to concentrate or else they'll all die. Pixie does so, but blindly teleports the team, scattering them between Washington, D.C. and the Xavier Institute. Injured, she mentally calls out to Emma Frost, breaking Emma's concentration to the fight between a group of X-Men and the Marauders.

While Dust, Mercury, and Rockslide are taking flowers to the dead students, Predator X heads up to where the injured ones are but Gentle and Armor attack it so Pixie can teleport it to X-23 because she remembers Laura killing one of them, but she also teleports them all to where the X-Men are fighting.

Cyclops, sends the New X-Men to fight the marauders,then Omega sentinel starts attacking Pixie, hitting her in the face, she then tells her if the X-Men its now sending kindergarden students to fight and if she had brought her money,but Pixie takes out her souldagger and stabs Omega Sentinel in her chest, almost killing her. This actually purged Malice from Omega Sentinel's body, as revealed recently in X-Men: Legacy #208.

Sometimes later Pixie returns home to Wales. Pixie will join the Uncanny X-men in San Francisco

Monet St. Croix was raised by her wealthy ambassador father in Monaco, accustomed to the finer things that money can buy. Her oldest sibling her brother Marius St.Croix turned to dark magic and became Emplateafter his powers came about he asked Monet to rule with him she painfully rejected him making him so mad that he trapped her in a red skin sharp body mute named Hollow, her younger twin sisters M Twins walked into the room to see to was making strange noise from Monet's room only Emplate and Penance. Being no more than eight and fearing that their brother killed Monet they used their own mutant powers to banish Marius to another dimension. Knowing that only Emplate could free her, Monet followed him.They where at some point mentored by the Gateway before they where taken by the alien Phalanx along with many other mutants. Monet was in a blank state when she was taken and when she came out of it she took charge and formed an escape plan with some other mutants but it failed.

Monet proved to be a bit hard to get along with as she was always looking down at most of her teammates and rubbed many the wrong way. However Monet had one problem she would often space out and nothing nor anyone could snap her out of it. This put her at odds with Banshee and Emma Frost because they both were worried about the girl.

When Emplate attacked the school again he told the entire team about his connection to Monet telling them that he was her older brother which Monet confirmed. He then changed Synch into a creature like him and they both ran off. The rest of the team fought Synch to a stand still. However it was Monet who beat him by telling him to push himself and copy all of her powers and find out why Emplate never tried to feed on her. This confused Synch but the hunger was too much and he copied her all her powers. He felt the twins merging powers, telepathy, dimension opening powers, as well as the fake one that they were using to pass as Monet. This was too much and Emplate's influence left Synch. Synch couldn't remember what he copied from Monet but it was enough to hurt Emplate and cause a deep rift of mistrust between her and Emma. Emma had enough of M's secrets. Since she was still upset over the loss of her hellions, she took M on a drive in the school's limo and tried to read Monet's mind. She couldn't and was repelled in the Astral plane and was thrown against the window in the real world. The twins used their telepathic powers to block her out, but they lied to her since they really wanted Emma to stop prying into their past and leave them alone. Whatever they told her, made her leave them alone for the time being.

When Onslaught came Emma unknowingly took telepathic control of all the kids and forced them to be happy then she took them to her get away house in Canada. The kids noticed something was wrong but they couldn't figure out what. Before they had a chance to find out, Toad attacked and tied them up. Nicole showed herself to Emma making her think that it was M. She forced Emma to let them all go by explaining what Onslaght was doing to telepathic people like Emma and Chamber. M spaced out once more when Beast came to the school and she built a paper mansion without meaning to. While she was in this trance like state Beast checked her and finally figured out what was wrong with her. Beast said that she was autistic

After a run in with Bastion and Zero Tolerance the twins secret was revealed. An expulsion forced them to separate. The twins were in a deep coma and couldn't wake up. They were watched by Penance at this time. Monet showed her true colors after being freed and proved to be a good addition to the team. Sadly the twins had become trapped in the Penance form. Monet felt bad about it and swore that she would make their brother undo the pain he caused them. The twins where freed by another expulsion, after another fight with Emplate leaving no one in the Penance body. This made them think that it was a lifeless husk until it started to move around. Emplate was hurt in the battle and was kept at the school.

Monet then went to a school in the Swiss mountains. She found out the headmaster was a vampire feeding on his students. She killed the headmaster and returned to Generation X. She then started to date Synch until he died trying save the of everyone on the team from a bomb. Monet took the loss hard. She started to bond with the other kids of Generation X until the school closed down. She returned home for a while. She and Penance then joined Banshee's X-corps until its closing. She then joined the X-Corporation in Paris until M-day .

M recently joined X-Factor Investigations in Mutant Town. When the team visit Doc Samson, M reveals that she apparantly has to make a decision every morning whether or not to kill herself. She also reveals that she hides behind this M persona because she doesn't want people to see her weakness and she doesn't want to seem afraid of her brother. M is later told by Madrox that he slept with her and Siryn, and she throws him out a window.

Xi'an Coy Manh made her way from Vietnam with her younger brother and sister, Leong Coy Manh and Nga Coy Manh, while her country was run by Communists. Her uncle, Gen. Nguyen Ngoc Coy, was an evil man who tried to use Xi'an's mutant ability for his own personal gain. Kidnapping Leong and Nga to make Xi'an do his bidding, Karma was forced to possess the hero Spider-Man to get her siblings back. The Fantastic Four intervened and assisted Xi'an in retrieving her brother and sister from her uncle, the General.

Through this interaction, Xi'an was introduced to Professor X, who offered to help her control her mutant abilities as well as employ her as a secretary to provide for her younger siblings. Karma became the first member of the New Mutants, and also their original leader because she was a few years older, and more mature, than the other members.

On one of the New Mutants' missions, the team believed Karma died at the hands of the Viper. However, it was revealed that Xi'an was actually possessed by a disembodied mutant called the Shadow King and had fled to start a new life. Under the Shadow King's influence, Karma ran a kind of Fight Club using super-powered beings until she was found and saved by the New Mutants.

Having rejoined the team, Karma took an apartment away from Xavier's School for Gifted Mutants so her siblings could go to a regular school. Soon afterwards, it was revealed that her siblings were yet again kidnapped, and Karma quit the team to actively search for them on her own.

Ultimately finding Leong and Nga after a long time, Xi'an rooted her family in Chicago where she became a college librarian. It was here that she was recruited by her former teammate, Moonstar, to help teach the next generation of mutants in Xavier's School for Gifted Mutants. She agreed to be the school's librarian and is the mentor and teacher for the youngest mutants enrolled in the school and Northstar's squad, after it was believed he had been killed, known as the Alpha Squadron.

That plan changed however, when the Massachusetts Academy invited Doug to join their school. Kitty couldn't tell him how that school was a front for evil mutants so she decided to go along to keep an eye on him. She was counting on the X-Men to back her up if she got into any trouble. Unfortunately for her this was at the same time that the Beyonder abducted Earths super heroes and villains to compete in the first Secret Wars. Kitty and Doug were both brainwashed by the newly returned Emma Frost. They were eventually rescued and Doug joined the New Mutants.

During his time on the New Mutants he always felt that he was a liability to the team because he felt that he had a worthless power. When the team discovered the techno-organic alien Warlock he had met his new best friend. Even though every thing Warlock touch would become infected with the transmode virus. Doug would risk his life to fuse with Warlock so he could help his teammates.

Doug was also romantically linked to Rahne Sinclair(Wolfsbane.) It was because of his strong feelings for her that cost Doug his life. The team was on a mission rescuing mutants that had been kidnapped and experimented on by the Ani-Mator. In the process the team was captured themselves. During their escape the Ani-Mator was going to shoot Wolfsbane in the back when Doug jumped in front of him and took the bullet to save her life.

Years later Doug returned to life when Warlock infected his body with the transmode virus and they were fused together as a new person called Douglock.

Born and raised in small-town America, Victor is a sixteen year old mutant who grew up despite his mutation and appearance. The neighborhood he grew up in a small community that accepted him for who he was until Anti-mutant feelings spread and threatened his safety, as a result Victor was sent off to Xavier's school where he quickly excelled academically and made close friends with Northstar .

When advisors were being assigned, Victor at first chose Karma but was reassigned to Northstar where he was friendly towards Julian Keller of the Hellions but now seems closer towards his own teammates. When Northstar was killed by Wolverine Victor was deeply affected, he as well as the rest of the new mutants were unaware of Northstar's resurrection via the Hand.

In the wake of the House Of M more than 90% of the mutant population lost their mutant powers, however, Anole was spared and his team Alpha Squadron along with the Hellions and New Mutants were all merged into one team. Shortly after that Emma Frost called for an all out brawl to decide who would lead this new mutant group, though Anole was not selected but still remained at the Institute to further his training.

Anole and his friends are being told a story by Blindfold, who then revealed the story to be real just as Anole and his friends were dragged into Limbo. After Rockslide was apparently destroyed by a demon, Victor attempts took charge, only to get his arm cut off by a demon. Victor wondered why it didn't hurt and why he did not die of blood loss. Victor along with the rest of the group were trapped, as Illyana Rasputin tried to take Pixie's soul to make a soul sword. After hearing some cryptic advice from Blindfold, Anole broke free of his stone entraptment and grew a new arm, looking similar to the carapace on his scalp. He broke free to save Pixie. Later Belasco was killed and Illyana became the ruler of Limbo. Anole and his friends got out of Limbo, for the most part, safely.
When both teams that were in Limbo made it back, Rockslide demanded that Anole and Pixie be allowed to join the New X-Men team, or he would leave the team. The New X-Men accepted the two new additions and Victor is became a New X-Man

When Surge set out to infiltrate the Purifiers, Anole was among the group, although he was somewhat reluctant. He only went along to help the baby; he was not out for revenge. Using his sneaky abilities and computer skills, he was able to find out that the Purifiers did not possess the mutant baby and also met up with Rictor, who was sent on the same mission by Cyclops. The New X-Men were ambushed by Lady Deathstrike and the Reavers, but Pixie managed to teleport them to safety. Later, Pixie also teleported them, along with Predator X to Muir Island, where the final battle for the mutant baby took place.

Victor returns to his hometown of Farebury, Illinois. Northstar finds him under Cyclops' orders, as he has apparently been out of contact with the former X-Men since the events of Messiah Complex. Northstar believes that he has become outcast because of his mutation and his sexuality, but Victor tells him otherwise. Anole tells Northstar that the X-Men have just used him for their own needs and he feels he no longer belongs there, as they have taken away his ability to be a child. He has left his parents a note, and has planned to leave his home. He elbows Northstar in the face and leaves, telling him that he and his old teammates should stay away.

Danielle Moonstar was born in Colorado to members of the Cheyenne Nation. The first time Dani's powers manifested, she saw the image of her parents deaths. She saw a huge bear standing over the bodies of a horse and an eagle. Her mother came from the horse clan and her father from the eagle clan. Shortly thereafter, her parents took a trip into the mountains and they disappeared, presumed to be dead.At first Dani was sent to live with some neighbors, but her mutant ability to create illusions based on primal fears or deepest desires was out of control, creating much resentment in the community. She went to live with her Grandfather, Black Eagle, a recluse in the mountains.Black Eagle was a friend of Charles Xavier (Professor X), and contacted him to help his granddaughter

, Dani freed X'ian Coy Mahn (Karma) from Donald Pierce's imprisonment and encountered Xavier and the other young mutants he had gathered to fight Pierce and his genocidal anti-mutant agenda. After Peirce was defeated Dani stayed with Xavier, at first taking on the codename Psyche and shortly thereafter Mirage, to honor her grandfather's wishes. She soon came to see the New Mutants as not only close friends but her family.

When the Demon Bear, who had claimed her parents, came for her, Dani went out to face it. It mauled her severely, nearly killing her. (Had it not been for the Morlock healer, Dani would have been paralyzed.) The New Mutants fought the Bear on a magical plane, defeating it and freeing Dani’s parents from its clutches.

In one adventure, the New Mutants (along with Storm) were kidnapped by the Enchantress of Asgard at Loki’s request. When Illyana Rasputin attempted to teleport them all away, the New Mutants found themselves scattered through Asgard. Dani found herself in a grassy plain. She spotted a fully white, winged horse that had been trapped by hunters and began to attempt to free it. While trying to set the winged horse free, an army began to charge at her. Unwilling to leave the horse helpless and not willing to run, Dani chose to fight back. Which led her to using her telepathic abilities to draw forth the image that the oncoming warriors feared most, Hela Asgardian Goddess of Death. The enemies froze in fear and left immediately, without a backwards glance. Dani not recognizing who the image was, cared less and returned to the winged-horse and freed it. The horse instantly began trust and bond Dani. It turns out that the horse was one of the winged-steeds of the Valkyor who had chosen her to be a Valkyrie, one of the choosers of the slain. It is possible that Dani’s moments of seeing her parents and grandfather’s deaths may have indicated a previously existing mystical ability in this area. The New Mutants joined forces with the X-Men, who had come to Asgard to rescue them and Storm, to defeat Loki. The steed, which Dani named Brightwind returned to Earth with her. Upon her connection with Brightwind Dani was very different though, in powers as well as responsibilities. Dani was no longer just a human mutant but a Valkyrie, a chooser of the slain now. This title gifted her with the ability to "see" death, or an aura of death around individuals who were to die soon. This gift also allowed Dani the ability to fight Death its self. On a couple of occasions, Dani attempted to fight Death to save the lives, though she was not always successful and learned that Death was a natural process of life not always to be feared.. Dani then chose to remain behind in Asgard to help repair the damage she had done.

Eventually, Dani returned to earth and joined SHIELD. As a SHIELD operative, she took on a mission to go undercover in the Mutant Liberation Front (M.L.F.), using the code name Moonstar which was her last name, serving as an informant for them and Cable. Dani was forced to take on a harder, darker persona, almost changing herself completely. This includes her mutant powers. Dani was able to refine her psychic abilities to the point were she focus he mental engergies to create "Psychic Arrows." These same "arrows" once contected with there intended target would incapacitate them, by either knocking them unconscious, temporarily paralyze or befuddle them and they would begin to make incoherent noise, completely taking the out of a fight. Not only did Dani take on a darker appearance in mind and body, but it also changed Brightwind. No longer bright at all. Not white, but completely black and now call Darkwind. While apart of the M.L.F., Dani struggled with her "undercover status" as it put her at odds with herself. An unfortunate side affect to her "deep cover" was that it brought her into many conflicts with old allies, specifically, X-Force(who were previously the New Mutants and her ex-teammates/friends/family). Additionally she began to get to know the members of the M.L.F. a lot better, as a result, Dani seemed to develop a genuine friendship with the mutant named Forearm. Which only made her job more of a struggle as she began to feel guilt by her actions. After the M.L.F. and X-Force, battled Operation: Zero Tolerance, Dani left the M.L.F. and SHIELD to rejoin her friends.

In the wake of the Messiah CompleX, there are no more X-Men and Cyclops has closed down the Xavier Institute. Shortly After he seeks out 6 students and recruits to as, potentially, the last team of X-Men ever. Once gathered together at their headquaters he explains who their enemy will be. He reveals a hologram and states that those shown are the new incarnation of the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants. Depicted are all ex-New Mutant and some were once active X-Men. Shown were Sunspot, Cannonball, Karma, Magma and Danielle Moonstar. Cyclops also states that the new team of X-Men's orders are to kill them.

Julian Keller's telekinetic powers developed during puberty. At first his parents did not try to get rid of him, but they did advise that he keep his powers hidden. He didn't, and his parents sent him to the Xavier Institute.

Emma Frost saw a lot of potential in him, and made him the leader of the her training squad. Julian was allowed to select his own codename and decided upon "Hellion" in order to honor Emma and the students who went before him under her training. He was made the leader of the Hellions. His powers developed quickly while he was at the school and he soon learned that he could fly, create concussive blasts and defensive shields
At the end of a school semester, Julian invited his squad to his parents' house for the summer. Julian broke into their safe to steal some of their fortune. Once he broke into their safe, he found some documents regarding "Kingmaker. He would grant them each one wish if they brought him a bioweapon. The Hellions turned the weapon over to SHIELD after they got it back from him.

When Nimrod showed up and tried to get Forge to rebuild its body, Hellion and the team (lead by Surge, another of Hellion's former enemies) went to stop it. During the fight Rockslide was utterly destroyed. When the battle with Nimrod was over, Hellion used his telekinetic powers to put Rockslide back together, giving him his new and current look. X-23 had also been injured during the fight and was not able to heal herself. She was quickly dying and the group wasn't able to save her. Emma relented and removed the blocks that prevented Hellion from using his powers to their full extent. Using his now stronger telekinesis to travel at incredible speeds, Hellion was then able to reach the mansion in time.

The next adventure the Institute students faced was being transported to Limbo by Belasco. While the majority of the students are transported, Hellion and Surge manage to avoid capture because they are busy arguing about his recent mission with X-23. Trance uses her powers to contact those back at the mansion, reaching Surge and Hellion and telling them of the other students capture and naming Belasco. Hellion and Surge then go to the ONE*. They then learn that Amanda Sefton is in a coma in Germany, Surge insists they be there when she wakes up. Hellion and Surge travel to Germany where they speak to the former ruler of Limbo, explaining their situation and being informed by her of Belasco’s return. They insist on being transported to limbo, and Amanda wearily accepts. Accompanied by a single Sentinel pilot, Hellion and Surge find themselves transported to Limbo where they’re greeted by thousands, if not millions of demons. They manage to hold their own against the horde, and with the sentinel pilot holding them off, to work their way to Belasco’s citadel. They arrive just as Illyana comes to her senses and sends the X-Men home. When Hulk attacks the manner, Hellion and the other New X-Men are the first to respond. Hellion manages to pin hulk down for a moment in their first attack but is then knocked away.

During the time leading up the birth of the new mutant Sinister sent Exodus and his team to the Mansion to attempt to retrieve the books of destiny When the students convene to calculate the youngest mutant on the planet things become complicated. Nori kisses Julian in front of everyone, including her boyfriend David. Hellion flies out of the mansion. Sooraya approaches Julian to talk about what happened. He confides in her how lost he feels; his best friend is dead, the girl he thought he loved has left, his mentor is flipping out, and he can’t stop thinking about a girl he is literally scared of. Though he is grateful to her for coming to check on him. Julian then goes to look for Nori, and walks in on her and David fighting. Not knowing what’s going on he blasts David, and is given a taste of his newfound skills for his trouble. He tells David he didn’t kiss her, and he responds that he knows and to see Elixir for his injuries. He and David still appear to be fine after this, and he and the Students settle in for the X-Men’s new training schedule.

When the first new mutant is born since M-Day Hellion and the rest of the Institute’s students want to be involved in the action. Along with the rest of the New X-Men he tracks down the Purifiers to DC.

They begin an assault on their headquarters, easily infiltrating it. It’s then that Lady Deathstrike makes her appearance, spearing Hellion through the chest. When Julian awakens he finds that things have changed drastically, as Emma Frost soon explains to him. Using his resources he decides to track down Magneto. While having dinner with Magneto he offers to join him. Magneto turns him down. He explains while he can understand Julian’s feelings, that the X-Men have taken everything from him, and then disposed of him. He states that Julian hasn’t realized what Scott has given him, the gift of time. Stating that the Mutant war would reclaim him soon enough, Magneto leaves Julian to spend the gift Scott has given him as he chooses.

Actually, Storm was never really a student. For one thing, she mastered her powers completely on her own, and Xavier came to her for help not the other way around. Her training mostly came from Wolverine, who helped her with hand-to-hand combat and marksmanship, and Cyclops, who trained her along with the other New X-Men to work as a team.

A secret government program wanted to recreate the Weapon X experiment (that produced the mutant Wolverine) in order to make super soldiers.The program director hired the renowned mutant geneticist, Dr. Sarah Kinney, and decided to create a clone from old, damaged genetic samples of the original Weapon X.

The attempts failed to create a clone 22 times because the Y chromosome could not be salvaged. Geneticist, Dr. Sarah Kinney suggested they try to create a female clone but her proposal is denied. When she creates a successful embryo Sutter reconsiders but his apprentice, Dr. Rice is angered and so he said to her, be the surrogate mother or her little project doesn't move forward (he honestly thought she wouldn't go through with it). After nine months she gave birth to X-23.

Dr. Rice hates X-23 as her "father", Wolverine, murdered his own father and so he tortures her throughout her training. At seven years of age she is subjected to radiation poisoning activating her mutations. With no care he extracts her claws, coats them with adamantium and re-inserts them in her body never once giving her anesthesia. He also produces a "trigger-scent" that causes her to go into a murderous rage upon inhaling it as she was trained to do so, with torture, for many years.

Rice finally decided to get his revenge by setting up X-23. She was given a dangerous mission and was left behind to face overwhelming odds. Yet to his disappointment X-23 survived and made her way back to The Facility. Rice decided to have X-23 kill his superior, Dr. Martin Sutter along with Sutter's family and then ordered her to keep it secret. He also revealed to Kinney that they had clones X-24 to X-50 waiting to be "born" just before she left.

Dr. Kinney then decided to leave The Facility with X-23, after drafting a letter to her daughter. But before they left, she ordered X-23 to destroy the clones and to kill Rice. Rice got in the final word as he exposed X-23 to the berserker chemical and she ended up killing her "mother", Dr. Kinney. With her final words, she gave X-23 the name, Laura, the drafted letter and pictures of Charles Xavier (Professor X), Wolverine (her father) and the Xavier Institute.

Laura traveled to San Francisco where she tracked down Debbie, her mother's sister and Meggan, her cousin. But Meggan experienced vivid nightmares about her abduction, her own family brushing these off as complete fantasy.
Laura lets her cousin know these events did take place and that the man haunting Meggan's dreams is real and that Laura killed him, and from that moment onward the two shared a bond as best friends. Eventually Kimure, X-23’s handler finds her and threatens to kill her family. Laura gets Debbie and Meggan to safety by handcuffing Kimura to a radiator and creating an explosion, buying them at least a little time. She sends them on a plane giving them plans for their safety and knowing she will never see them again she decides to confront the man who is the reason for her creation, Wolverine. He lets her beat him, and then tells her that Xavier is her only hope for a normal life.

But as her options are being discussed she is captured by SHIELD agents, Captain America and Daredevil who tranquilize Wolverine and kidnap her. They then proceed to interrogate her to learn of her past. Daredevil accepts her murderous past, while Captain America seeks retribution, eventually wiping her slate clean to avoid her becoming the government's weapon.

Eventually in New York City she is taken in by the pimp, Zebra Daddy. Laura then becomes a prostitute specializing in cutting the masochistic patrons. She also continues to cut herself with her adamantium claws, remains untalkative and seems unable to free herself from Zebra Daddy.

She returns to the X-Mansion only at the insistence of Wolverine. Headmistress Emma Frost is reluctant to allow the murderer, X-23 into the school, but Scott Summers (Cyclops) stands up for X-23, she allows her to re-enter the Institute where Laura is given Dust as her new roommate.

When the New X-Men team battles Nimrod in Texas, after a distress call is received from Forge, it is X-23 who defeats him by using her claws to cut through the machine. Even after the Sentinel is disabled she is wounded beyond the ability to heal herself and it is only Hellion's sacrifice that allows her to reach the mansion in time, where Elixir heals her.

Later, when she is getting to know her teammate Mercury, the café they are in is attacked by Kimura, with her minions, who capture Cessily. Laura then returns to the school, partners with Hellion and the two head off to find The Facility's whereabouts.

At The Facility, Laura and Julian encounter Kimura but they manage to find Cessily, who is in a liquid form, finding it hard to hold herself together. They are then attacked by Predator X, the creature that has absorbed Cessily's mercury skin. Laura and Julian decided to retreat but are pursued. They are then ambushed, yet again, but rescued by the Astonishing X-Men and New X-Men. Emma Frost later finds Kimura about to assassinate X-23, and erases the one happy moment in her life from her memory. Then she changes her mission to be that she hunt down members of The Facility so that she may kill them. Emma Frost had at that moment finally decided to help her student rid herself of her horrible past.

Laura evemtually squares off with Lady Deathstrike during an encounter involving the new X-Force and the Reavers. Because Lady Deathstrike hurt Julian Keller, A.K.A. Hellion, badly in a previous fight, she seemingly killed the cybernetic woman by cutting one of her cybernetic arms and slicing through the older woman's body "faster than she can heal." Laura then proceeds to tell her, "You were dead the moment you touched Julian Keller..." She then fought in the final battle on Muir Island.

X-23 is now a member of the new, modern incarnation of X-Force.

Despite everything her father tried to condition her into, she broke her programming as she read her victims body and understood the finality of death. Wayne is fuelled by his parents deaths. Cass is fuelled by the single traumatic moment of her first and only kill. (I'm ignoring Beechen.)

Laura suffered the same kind of abuse by the facility. Thing is that she took the tools given and went the opposite direction of Cass. When she fights, she deems it a necessary evil to kill. The psychological repercussions to her psych is appealing and differs her from Logan.
She has also her own personality, which would explain her fans because I'm certainly not a fan of Logan.
(Except for the skrull who shall not be mentioned.)

Illyana Rasputin (born Illyana Nikolievna Rasputina) was born in the Ust-Ordynski Collective farm, near Lake Baikal, Siberia, Russian SFSR, Soviet Union to Nikolai Rasputin and his wife Alexandra Natalya Rasputina.

When she was six years old, Illyana was abducted and brought to the United States by Arcade, who used her and several other hostages to coerce the X-Men to assist him in opposing Doctor Doom. She was rescued and brought back to the X-Mansion.

Shortly thereafter, Illyana was kidnapped again, this time to the Limbo dimension by Belasco and S'ym, inhabitants of this demon dimension. She was raised there and corrupted by Belasco, who taught her black magic and sought to claim her soul to be used as a key to bring forth the Elder Gods to rule Earth. She was later tutored in the practice of white magic by that dimension's version of Storm (who turned to magic when her mutant powers waned) and eventually rebelled against Belasco. Finding the use of magic abhorrent, Limbo's version of Shadowcat trained Illyana how to proficiently use a sword in combat.

Before he kidnapped Illyana, Belasco used both Storm and Shadowcat as potential gateways to freeing the Elder Gods by manipulating their souls with his evil. Both refused his magic before the process could be completed. Because of this, Illyana formed a mystical bond between both Storm and Kitty once she too was used in the same manner. A transformed Illyana becomes a powerful sorceress and ruler of Limbo, Magik

Using a portion of her own soul, Illyana created the Soulsword and took over limbo as its new ruler. During her battle with Belasco she magically developed horns, a tail and fangs. She discovered that these new features only appear when she holds the Soulsword. After winning the battle, she banished Belasco from Limbo and claimed S'ym as her servant. She then managed to return to Earth several years older, although no time had passed on Earth since her kidnapping.She subsequently joined the New Mutants.

Over time, a strange armor began to appear on her body each time she wielded the Soulsword, which, much like her brother Colossus, gave her a form of invulnerability and increased strength. The armor appeared only on one of her shoulders and arms at first, but gradually began appearing on more of her body with each time that she wielded the sword. During the "Inferno" storyline, the demon N'astirh tricked Illyana into opening up a colossal teleportation disc between Earth and Limbo, which triggered an invasion of Earth by demons from Limbo. At the end of this ordeal, after S'ym had been defeated, Illyana regressed back to the age she was when she was kidnapped. However, she still possessed the locket Belasco gave to her, implying that she still had ties to Limbo.

Because of the mystic bond she shared with the Kitty Pryde from the Limbo dimension, the Soulsword then passed on to Earth's Kitty Pryde in England. It embedded itself into a stone near Excalibur's lighthouse headquarters, waiting for Kitty to claim it and become its new wielder. She rejected it out of fear she would become a twisted dark image of herself, just as Illyana had. Seeing how much its presence bothered her friend Kitty, Rachel Summers attempted to remove it from the bedrock with the powers of the Phoenix Force but could not move it, because, Kitty guessed, it would only move upon her command. It stayed embedded in England until it eventually fell into the hands of the supervillain Doctor Doom, who shortly thereafter lost it to the demon Darkoth. It eventually was acquired by Amanda Sefton, who would become the new Magik, and then go on to be ruler of Limbo and wielder of the Soulsword.

Illyana, still a child, returned to Russia where she lived with her parents for some months until they were murdered by the Russian government in order to secure Illyana's abilities to defeat a psionic being known as the Soul Skinner. Illyana then returned to the X-Mansion to live with her brother Piotr and the other X-Men.

Not long afterwards, Illyana contracted the Legacy Virus, and finally succumbed to it and died in her homeland of Siberia.

Belasco came looking for Magik, as he sense her presence that left behind during the House of M, and used his powers to take most of the students at the school prisoner. He smelled Magik on them but none of them remembered meeting her. All clues began to point to Magik being alive.

A group of free students on the run in Limbo ran into a version of Illyana in her Darkchild self. She revealed that she was recreated by Belasco, but in body and mind only. Her soul resided in her Soulsword, and that had been lost. She sought to create a new soulsword, and five new bloodstones of power, from the pure soul of Pixie. The process was only partially successful, resulting in only one bloodstone being created. Pixie ended up with a tiny soul dagger. Illyana then taught Pixie a teleportation spell, which allowed the students a full confrontation with Belasco. In the ensuing fight, Pixie stabbed Belasco with the dagger, allowing Illyana to use the bloodstone's power to presumably destroy Belasco. With Balesco’s defeat, she once again became queen of Limbo. Despite an emotional reunion with her brother, Piotr, she banished the X-Men from Limbo and sealed it off, not content to rest till she recovered her soul and became whole once again.

Dust is a mutant from Afghanistan. She was taken into captivity by slave traders who planned to sell her off as a mutant slave. When her capturers attempted to remove her headdress she lashed out at them, turning into her Dust form and stripping the flesh from their bodies. It was Fantomex who initially discovered her to rescue her. Wolverine had also been out to locate her, and assisted in killing the remainder of her would-be capturers and getting her to the safety of X-Corporation headquarters in Mumbai. While Wolverine was sleeping and allowing himself to heal she turned into her dust form, hiding all around the room. Jean Grey recognized telepathically that she was there and attempted to comfort her, but she would only say one thing: Turaab (meaning "Dust").
While at the Xavier institute, she befriended and joined the Hellions. Instead of wearing a traditional X-Uniform, she decided to keep her traditional clothing, an abaya and a niqab.

She was placed in Xorn's and when he asked her to join his new group and she refused, he controlled her dust form and forced her to destroy Cerebra.

Ater the effects of M-Day, Dust was one of the few students who didn't lose their powers. The depowered students and staff were sent home; however their bus was bombed by anti-mutant religious zealot Reverend William Stryker. Subsequently, Emma Frost had the surviving students engage in an all-in brawl, with those deemed to be the best performers assigned to a new team of trainee X-Men. Dust was among those students who made the grade.

Sooraya became a target of William Stryker's crusade against the Xavier Institute. Icarus gave her a note, which X-23 told Sooraya not to trust. When Icarus visited the church of William Stryker he was shown why Dust was his next target. Nimrod had a vision of an altered future in his memory banks which showed Dust killing all the Purifiers by turning into a sand storm and ripping the flesh from their bones. After entering the church of Reverend Stryker, she was shown being shot down, though it was revealed to be X-23 dressed in one of her burquas. When Stryker's team infiltrated the school, Dust reappeared, surprising Stryker and playing a key role in defeating his Purifiers.

Dust helped fend off Belasco, which she does for a while with Mercury. While fighting Belasco, he states that her dust form is resistent to magic, as is her friend Mercury's mercury form.

Dust fought the Hulk with the other New X-Men in World War Hulk: X-Men. She was quickly taken out by the Hulk when he lifted a pipe from underground, spraying her with water.

During Messiah Complex, Dust stays behind, choosing not to take part in attacking the Purifiers without permission. She then helps in the final battle taking out Exodus, the leader of the Acolytes with help of Emma Frost

After the X-Men "disbanded", Dust returned to Afhganistan, and as seen in the first issue of the new series, Young X-Men, protects a small village from invading members of the Taliban. She is then recruited onto the new team along with old friends such as Rockslide by Cyclops.

Growing up in Kentucky, Sam was the oldest child in his house with ten siblings. When Sam was sixteen, his father died and he felt it was up to him to support the family. He did what his father did and started working as a coal miner. A former member of the evil Hellfire Club, Donald Pierce, tricked Sam into fighting against Professor X and his New Mutants. Seeing that Pierce was evil, Sam fought on the side of the New Mutants instead. Sam was then asked to join the team and return to New York to attend Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters, a school for mutants.

Cable had journeyed back to the 20th century after he learned that Sam was potentially an exceptionally rare immortal mutant not unlike Apocalypse known as a High Lord External, and that he lived well into and possibly beyond the 23rd century. Not soon after, in a battle against the Brotherhood Of Evil Mutants, Sam discovered he was an External, after having his blastfield diminished by Phantazia and being gutted by the lizard-man Sauron. He will never die, however, he can be killed as other Externals have in the past. After Cable left X-Force, Cannonball assumed the leadership role in the group, despite being the member with the least control and confidence in his powers.

After X-Force’s dissolution, Cannonball joined several of his former teammates and former members of X-Force and Generation X, in the Paris, France branch, of Professor X's international mutant task force X-Corporation. His time with the X-Corporation wasn't a pleasant one. En route to a mission, later found to involve the Weapon Plus program, his teammate Darkstar poked fun at him for eating a sandwich that would have rather distasteful consequences for "everybody who went out without an umbrella in downtown Beauvais." This moment of levity at Cannonball's expense did not last, as on that same mission, Darkstar died. At the funeral of Darkstar, Xavier gave Cannonball a note, with the whereabouts of Lila Cheney. Sam decided to take time away from the X-Corporation, as the strain of his life began to get to him. He worked for a time cleaning up damages to the France-England tunnel, AKA the Chunnel, which was partially destroyed in the very same mission which killed Darkstar.

Cannonball was then drafted into Rogue's team of X-Men with Iceman. Through the use of illusions, Sam fell in love with Serafina, though he eventually snapped free of the hypnosis. Later, Sam took her out when the X-Men battled the Children of the Vault.
During the Marauders' attack on the X-Men, Cannonball was forced to flee with Iceman by Emma Frost. While flying in the Blackbird, the two were attacked by Sunfire, but he was quickly dispatch by Cannonball. After the X-Men "disbanded", Cannonball went back home to Kentucky, where he was picked up from the airport by Husk. As they drive through town, Husk updated him on everything that's been going on. Most recently, Cannonball has been revealed to be a member of the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants which is now lead by his former New Mutants teammate, Sunspot.
