Good dialogue, good action sequence, Pelletier is simply awesome, for me it's already my favorite team.

"I'm suggesting an ass-kicking force." Freaking classic. This looks great. Spot on dialog, eye catching art, a raccoon with a gun bigger than he is, is there anything wrong with this book? (The answer's no, and no, Phyla isn't what's wrong) I love the dialog about the team name, and I love the scene with Rich, Peter and Phyla (They make great buddies).

It's funny because when I see the preview, I think of you, this Warlock seem to be more like the Warlock of Starlin, when I see him, Gamora and drax together, it's like to comeback in the 90's and the reference with the Universal Church of Thruth is simply awesome, the Magus saga is surely my favorite story with Warlock.

I don't think it's the release date, I think it's just the date of the preview, the other previews give May for the release of the comics.

I thought it looks great. Abnett & Lanning though definitely have a different voice when it comes to the characters that Giffen did for the characters, so that was a little awkward for me (Starlord/Gamora both were a bit more playful then I recall), but even saying that it definitely was well written and just plain fun.

Oh my...
I'm SOLD!
P.S.
If that's the Church of universal truth then this must be about the Magus, right? I remember him being free from the soul gem in captain marvel's run (genis vell), but cannot recall how that ended...

You know, I love the lips on Phyla here. And I love the debriefing logs (Gamora's is especially funny). I hope that the series carries this fun atmosphere and doesn't get all dark and moody like Conquest.

Marvel's cosmic line has been my favorite for a long time (even though it has consisted of only Annihilation, Nova, and Conquest). This line has fresher stories than what is going on Earth in non-cosmic Marvel. I was sold on Guardians before it was even announced. As it is, I cannot wait.

Interesting observation: Peter goes on about protecting the galaxy, not the universe. I wonder if this does mean that they are going to stay focused on the Kree Empire?

Long live "Rocket Raccon and his Human Hanger-ons". That line and "Ass-Kickers of the Fantastic" just showed me that DnA are going to be having alot of fun with this book, and usally when the writers are having a real good time the readers do too.

It looks pretty good, and has a nice set of characters to work with.
I can't help wishing that Nova was going to be involved, though. I guess he's too busy in his solo series. Though that's not stopped Marvel putting characters in multiple books before.
The inclusion of Cosmo makes this a surefire winner, especially if we get plenty of interaction between him and Rocket Raccoon.

I know alot people like the gun tot'n Rocket Racoon, but Nova should be in the
Guardians, not RR. They already have the gun tot'n Starlord, don't need the fur ball carrying a gun too.

I like Nova, lone ranger style, kicking butt by himself, personally.

Considering all the character connections, plus the fact that it's the same writers, I think it's fairly safe to guess that Nova will be a recurring character in the book, and that there will be occasional crossovers.
Have I mentioned how awesome this book looks?

I was pretty much a lock to get this series, since I'm not going to miss anything with Rocket Raccoon, but the preview and the art sealed it. This looks like it will be fun, good paced and an interesting read. They will be true heroes to an extent which is what I want out of comics, not villains(punisher) or anti-heroes(Deadpool) but good old fashion kicking bad guy booty. I don't mind a few less heroic characters on a team, but I want the team goal and actions to be good and not a bunch of talking heads for 8 panels arguing with a girlfriend....it's a comic if you go more than 5 panels without an action sequence put yourself on the alternative rack. (unless it's exposition)

I think, story wise, Nova is better off on his own. He is the new "Number One Space Hero!" and would overshadow the other members. As for the gun users I see it like this: there's three power levels in the team, each with two members of similar powers. At the top are Quasar and Adam Warlock, each Herald level heroes with energy based powers. Then you have Gamora and Drax who are both super strong, super tough and super mean with blade weapons. At the bottom are Starlord and Rocket Raccoon, armed to the teeth but who's greatest strength are they're tactical minds.

Can someone tell me, is Guardians basically picking up where Annihilation ends? Cause I love cosmic stuff, but there's no way I can start reading Annihilation now. And I'd love to start here. Looks great.

That pretty much sums up my reaction as well. I knew Paul Pelletier was good with space stories due to his time with Negation for CrossGen, but this is so much better than I even thought. This book was made for him. These previews have me very excited.

I have seen paperbacks of the original Annihilation at Border's Books and Barne's and Noble. If I were you, I would at least get the four issue Annihilation: Nova and the Annihilation mini. You will not be disappointed.

I'd also pick up the 4 issue Silver Surfer mini because that was imo, the best mini out of the first Annihilation series.

Your right you were.
It should come as no surprise every interview and solicitation for the series has featured the cast from Annihilation, so I don't know what you got your hopes up about. They never suggested that it was going to be the originals to return so there is no farce.

These "Guardians of the Galaxy" are not the ones I expected and they should use another name.So . . . you heard about a new Guardians of the Galaxy title, but didn't hear any of the other information? Because they've been very clear, right from the first announcement, that this was a spin-off from Annihilation: Conquest featuring characters from that event.
If it helps any, what seems to be Vance Astro's shield is on the cover of the second issue and Starhawk is on the cover of the third.

They've been really, really, really clear that this was not the original Guardians of the Galaxy but a spin off from Conquest. They even debuted the cover to issue one months ago which had the team on it, and there's a good number of interviews discussing the team. There is some connection to the old team though, as they keep saving and as the cover to the second and third issue seem to hint at. Starhawk was reveled to be joining the team.

I would disagree with both counts. There's obviously a connection to the old team and that's probably where the name came from, as the preview shows that they aren't able to come up with a name themselves. Knowing more about why they are called Guardians of the Galaxy would probably go a long way to accepting the team.

Well the original Guardians take place far, far into the future anyway. It's not like there's two Guardians of the Galaxy teams operating at the same time. I have no problem with it. If Marvel ever wants to print another original GotG series, they could call it Guardians of the Galaxy 2525, or whatever year it would be.
It's really a no brainer name anyway, very obvious, and speaks for itself.

I'm happy to see this. It's another cosmic Marvel book and it only tells us that they're taking this market seriously again. Good all the way around. They know who are favorites are. Now to just get everything back to status quo with EVERYBODY.
Despite my initial feelings about this...it looks good. I'll give it a readover at the LCS.

Which is all, in fact, extremely confusing. Cap's shield and a character from the future. I won't say this piques my interest, since it was already piqued. I'm just supremely interested AND bewildered now.

I think one of the things that Annihilation did, and did well, was create an entirely new status quo. Think about it: the Nova Corps are gone and now Rich is the only surviving member, Starlord is without Ship or his gun, Galactus has two Heralds and one of them is the Surfer, Wendell is dead and Phyla is Quasar, Moondragon is dead, Drax is now a less powerful but more cunning killer, Adam Warlock is younger with different powers and seems to have dropped the Messiah complex, etc. One of the reasons I like cosmic Marvel, real change happens.
Hey, Paul Pellitier, how does it feel to be the best artist at Marvel? Just curious....
I mean, my god, its like almost animated as you read it. Great coloring too, thank god its not murky.
SO awesome that at the end of Secret Invasion, both DnA books will deal with the SKrull Invasion.

I also thought it was funny that the one guy who didnt like the looks of this book probably viewed us all like "Noah's Neighbors" because we all think hes crazy.
anyways one thing I wanted to say was Peter's last line in the preview really showed me why him and Rocket are perfect for each other. it just reminded me of Rockets rant of "Go to space, befirend a tree, note to self make better lifestyle choices"
