So i got this game today and i am really enjoying it.
What are all of your thoughts about it?
Prefer Wii wheel, nunchuck, standard controllers?
Thoughts on characters and karts, as well as the new addition of Bikes.
And are most people happy with the new tracks that have been created?
Also i thought that leaving out co-op Grand Prix mode was an unusual move... it was fun on Double Dash to unlock all the cups whilst playing with a friend.

To be honest, I'm very disappointed that they removed free for all battle mode and that even in teams it is based on points and a timer rather than balloon death matches. They completely removed player vs player death matches. I really enjoyed playing that with my friend in past games, and it just seems a shame that they'd decide to remove such a Mario Kart staple for no conceivable reason.
That and rubber-banding AI seems to be the reason why this game is getting mixed reviews.

I haven't gotten the game yet, but the only reason I can think of would be online matches. Once you eliminate someone, they have nothing else to do except watch. That's probably the same reason why "With Anyone" was limited to timed matches in Brawl. I guess Nintendo wants their online games to be fun for everyone all the time. Of course, they don't care what you do with your friends, though. That's why stock matches were allowed in Brawl when you play "With Friends." But I'm only guessing here. I have no idea if these are Nintendo's reasons or not.

I can't waiiiit for sunday for this game!
They took multiplayer GP out? That's hella lame, I loved it back in the day! :frown: The courses look really fun from what I've seen of trailers and stuff... I like the one where you bounce on various mushroom-like platforms. Also, a revamped Moo Moo Farm? HILARIOUS. I hate most of the new characters. Baby Peach? Eh, not SO bad, but I'm drawing the line at effing BABY DAISY. Rosalina, Funky Kong, and Dry Bowser are just ridiculous. They need to bring back originals like Wart, Tryclyde, and Mouser! Rosalina's too similar to Peach in looks to ever be a great character on her own in a game like this, Funky Kong is too unusual and I would've gladly taken Dixie Kong or K. Rool over him, and Dry Bowser? WHY ADD ANOTHER BOWSER??? I know all this is hella geeky, but I'm a big Mario fan and I follow all the stories and characters religiously. Really, I'm just glad Toad and Birdo are in it. I love the use of the wii wheel and that they have the choice of bikes or karts.
I wonder, can you play online with four people on your own wii? Or is online where you can only use one player in a race with 11 other separate people?

Ah, I was wondering this too. Can anyone with the game tell us the answer pretty please?

You can't do 4 player online from your Wii. You can do two player online but the 2nd person is listed as "Guest" and they don't recieve/lose any points in races/battles.

Cool, that's fine by me. I was just disappointed I couldn't play alongside my brother on Brawl unless we played "With Friends." If I can at least do that in Mario Kart, then it's all good as far as I am concerned.

I didn't know anything about the game before I got it, including the character roster and game modes. I enjoyed it much more because of that.
No 2 player GP is pretty weird but you can still play whole cups in 2 player vs mode, you just don't unlock anything.
As far as characters go, I mostly agree with you. Baby Peach was atleast in Yoshi's Island DS but Bowser Jr should have been a light character instead of baby Daisy and Dixie Kong should have had his medium slot.
Rosalina does look similar to Peach but she's in the heavy class (for some reason) so they don't play too similar. Plus Rosalina has a little star floating beside her the whole time! Which is...actually a little distracting lol
Know who I would have loved? The Koopa Kids! Why did Nintendo ditch them?! I do love Bowser Jr though...
Funky is a pretty amusing and inspired inclusion I thought! Plus his battle stage is the best one. I would have preferred Kiddy and Dixie though. Dry Bowser is more like a bonus character imo. Plus I guess they wanted to have 8 characters for each weight class.
I can understand why people would be dissapointed with the battle mode options but I only play it online and it's absolutely amazing fun imo.
Are people up for friend code swapping?

You can't play "against anyone" online in Brawl with 2 players?! UGH.
Also, there aren't always 12 people in every online race/battle. People join and drop out from race to race / battle to battle.
It can sometimes work out a bit unfair in battle 'cos there's often uneven teams...they usually try to balance it by how many points the players have.

Not too sure about this. I played Smash Bro. Brawl for about a week maybe less. Have not touched it since. I don't think I'll be buying another Wii game until the new Zelda comes out. Sorry Nintendo...

I haven't gotten the game yet, but the only reason I can think of would be online matches. That is no reason to remove it from offline. What if someone just wants to play a two player match with a friend. The ball has been dropped.

A couple of people have been asking about Dry Bowser, it's not bowser... basically the characters name is dry bones and he is from super mario world 2, basically koopa trooper just skeletal form. i think he is medium racer as well.
The Mii is alright to use, but the wii wheel on rainbow road is pretty much suicide for me... probably the hardest rainbow road so far?

Dry bowser is the real bowser with his skin burned off!
from wiki--
"In New Super Mario Bros., Bowser is the first boss (Bowser Jr. is a miniboss in the first world) and final boss. He is fought the same way as in the original Super Mario Bros. (except the axe is replaced with a generic switch which performs the same function), but this time, the lava he falls in disfigures him into a Dry Bones-esque skeleton. The reanimated Bowser skeleton, also called Dry Bowser, Skeleton Bowser, or even Bowser Bones, is later fought in the second castle in world 8, before Bowser Jr. resurrects his father in a potion-filled cauldron just in time for the game's final showdown. In this showdown, Bowser is larger than he was in the first fight, a bit more cunning, and will attempt to lunge at the player when the player gets behind him."
So he falls into lava, turns into dry bowser, battles mario then gets turned back into alive bowser by a potion from koopa kid.

With the wheel, definately lol.
With the GC controller, I'd say it's the easiest Rainbow Road yet!

I actually played it with the GC controller last night and the game is a breeze, never going back to the wheel... speaking of GC controllers I'm going to go play Mario Kart now.
Oh also does anyone know if you can do the flips in the air with the GC controller? I've tried every button but can't seem to get it working...

Read the booklet my friend!!
It's the D-Pad. It's a different trick depending on if you press up, down, left or right. You need to make sure you press it literally right as you make the jump.
What are peoples names online? Do you prefer worldwide or continental? Race or battle?
Who is everyone's preferred character? I wish they had more unique attributes...I miss the individual weapons. My faves are Bowser Jr, Luigi and sometimes Baby Luigi!

Question: What's the blue flame stuff that characters get around them sometimes.
I'll get it on occasion, but I don't know how it works.
Also, I'd like to comment that this game is much closer to Super Mario Kart than Double Dash. It was weird at first, but now I love it.

It's a speed boost you get if you ride right up behind another racer and keep on them for a few seconds!

It's like a perfect fusion of the two!

just picked up my pre-order today. I tried the Wii Wheel for a bit but it just wasn't cutting it. I'm using Remote and Nunchck at the moment but I really wish i could switch the B trigger and Z button, I want as drift and trigger as weapon...
I'm glad that the online isn't garbage like Smash Brothers, most of all, though.

I feel like I'm the only person that likes the wheel. However, I haven't tried the other control setups.

Doing the time trials and trying to unlock the expert times is HELLA hard! I can't even get one (though I have beaten the person before... they didn't give me any expert data!)

Yeah, I worked out that you have to beat the first Nintendo time by atleast 5 seconds to unlock the expert times! I've unlocked about 3/4 so far...
I tried to connect with you earlier Clint but it wouldn't let me! :frown:

This is Nintendo's best online interface to-date by far. My only real complaint is lack of voice chat in friend rooms or at least the ability to type anything you want.
